I was re-reading part of "love is a verb" and was thinking about Cassian's comment about how Jyn didn't add flowers to her original soulmark to disguise it... and how if she had added flowers to it, would she have been left with oddly placed flowers when the soulmark disappeared? The flowers would probably still be a nice tattoo, but Jyn might not be a fan.
Hey, friend, first of all let me thank you for the compliment of reading my writing twice. Second, let me apologize for still not having posted the last chapter to that particular story. Iâm so sorry, covid smacked me into a wall this year, but I am determined to get it done. And third, no, I dont think Jyn would have been any more of a fan of having a recognizable mark on her skin that she put there than she was of having a recognizable mark that she *didnât* choose to put there. But I figure that since the flowers would have been a sign of healing to her, she would have dealt with it better than she dealt with the unwanted soul mark that the flowers were meant to cover. Happily, its not a problem for her since the original soulmark vanished before she could seriously consider Cassianâs suggestion.
This WIP is not one that I started in 2020, but it is one I worked on in 2020, and also one that I desperately want to finish. Iâve been working on it off and on since [googles when Rogue One came out] âŠ.2016. But itâs one of those fics where itâs just better in my head and whenever I work on it, I feel like it doesnât come out quite right.Â
Anyways! Hereâs a bit of my Rogue One Mafia AU, where Galen Erso was put in jail for the murder of his wife (which he didnât commit) after getting in too deep with the mob, and Jyn was raised by her foster father, Saw. She works as a bartender now, at The Stardust, Chirrut and Bazeâs bar. Cassian is a police detective who happens to have an interest in Galen Ersoâs case, believing he may have been wrongly convicted, but unable to reopen the case, as his commanding officer, now Lieutenant, then Detective, Davits Draven, was the arresting officer.Â
âSo,â she began as she refilled his glass. âThe pianoâis it a profession or a hobby?âÂ
âHobby.â Cassian said shortly.Â
âSo then, what is your job?â Jyn asked.Â
âDoes it matter?âÂ
âHey,â she shrugged, handing him back his glass. âYou already know what I do for a living. Itâs only fair.âÂ
Cassian took the glass, sipped it slowly, and then looked up to meet her eye. âIâm a cop, a detective, actually.âÂ
âOh.â A lump formed in Jynâs throat. Memories swirled in her mind, of flashing lights, and her mother on the floor, and blood, so much blood. She looked down at the bar top, suddenly unable to make eye contact with the man in front of her.Â
âHey,â his voice was gentle, âAre you okay?âÂ
Jyn nodded, and forced a smile through her clenched jaw. âIâm fine.âÂ
Cassian tilted his head slightly in acknowledgement and headed back towards the piano. Jyn watched him, as he settled back on the bench, his fingers ghosting over the keys before he began to play again.

Carrie @ruby-red-inky-blue - Hi itâs me your Secret Santa! I am so excited that I got to write something for you and maybe a tad intimidated. Your prompt was âoffice christmas partyâ and I hope I did a little bit of justice to it. Thank you again and I hope you have a wonderful new year! - Michelle
Jyn has a crush on her co-worker Cassian. The company holiday party is here and what better chance to get to know him? What could possibly go wrong?
or
How Jyn and Cassian manage to read all the signs wrong.
Iâve been really loving this AU idea that after the war Jyn becomes Senator Leia Organaâs bodyguard.
At first Jyn thinks itâs going to be pretty standard security work, like protecting Leia from assassinations and such, but it turns out that 90% of her job is keeping Leia from throwing hands with other (stupid and useless) politicians
And this goes on well into their 60âs and 70âs. Even when Jyn cant fight like she used to, and she doing more strategical work, Jyn still is the leader of Senator Organaâs security team, and she always goes with Leia to diplomatic missions and Senate meetings, because Jyn is not about to leave Leiaâs safety in anyone elseâs hands, and there isnât anyone Leia trusts like Jyn
For your consideration: Pre-relationship, drunk Jyn remarks to someone that Cassian is hot. The rebels she's with all just laugh and go "good luck with that he's impossible to seduce some of us have tried" and drunk Jyn takes this as a challenge and goes on a mission to seduce him and then it's... weirdly easy? And Cassian is very seduced and also a WRECK because... Jyn is flirting with him? (not very nsfw, but i think it's fun)
That one brooding rebel
All things considered, rebels werenât that bad.Â
Sure, they were cocky as fuck, they liked to congratulate themselves way too often, and they had a worrisome hero complex. But they also had nice commodities, warm food, and good booze. All in all, not such a bad deal. Certainly better than what sheâd been doing up until now. She could even concede that some of them were⊠tolerable company.
Jyn didnât regret being lured in by that shady recruiter, some two months ago. Sheâd been skeptical at first, waiting to find the catch on that too-good-to-be-true offer. But they simply asked of her to keep on doing what she did best: slicing and code forging. The only difference, now, was that she had a boss to report to and a bed to go back to at the end of her shift.Â
So, not so bad. AlsoâÂ
âFuck me,â Jyn muttered, âAndor is criminally hot.âÂ
A loud salve of laughter erupted around the table. Jyn looked at her audience with a frown of confusion. This wasnât a joke. She was dead serious. Cassian Andor, aforesaid recruiter, who had convinced her to give a shot at this whole⊠rebellion thing. It certainly helped that she had him pinned down on the ground the first time they met. She wouldnât have trusted a man that wasnât willing to surrender. Of course, he simultaneously had a blaster pointed at her head, but fair was square.Â
âYeah, good luck with that!â the pilot sitting next to her mocked.Â
Jyn groaned, fingers curled around her (sixth⊠seventh?) cup of Spicebrew. She was objectively not bad-looking, in her own style. Maybe not exactly holo worthy, too rough around the edges, but men looked at her. Not men like Cassian fucking Andorâ is true, but she wouldnât back down just like that.
âFuck off, Varta.âÂ
âNo, I mean it! Youâd have more chances with a rock, the guy is impossible to seduce.â
âHonest,â a girl from Analysis said, âyou think youâre the first one who wants him? Some of us have tried, but heâs a damn droid.âÂ
âMaybe thatâs why heâs friends with one,â Varta laughed.Â
âYou think he has someone⊠somewhere?â Jyn asked, looking at Cassian over the edge of her cup. The ghost of a plan was already forming inside her brain.
âHmm, if so, he never mentioned it. Not that I know.âÂ
âSo,â Jyn decided, finishing her drink in one-go, âworth a shot! Wooowâ âÂ
The floor tilted, uneven under her feet, as she stood up. Someoneâs hand steadied her in the back, just long enough for Jyn to balance herself properly. She heard some mocking comments made at her expenses but let it slide unanswered. Instead, she walked to the other side of the lounge room (really nothing more than a storage space reclaimed by rebel personnel for some ârecreationalâ time) where Cassian Andor was casually chatting with, she presumed, a friend of his.Â
Jyn leaned against the same crate he was sat on, happy for the support. That didnât fail to catch the man's attention. He turned to her with a questioning look in his eyes and maaaybe a slight annoyance, being interrupted by her sudden intrusion.Â
âCaptain Andor,â Jyn smiled, mesmerized by how soft his hair always looked.Â
âJyn Erso,â he sighed, and his postureâfor some reasonârelaxed. âYou look hammered.âÂ
Oh, eh! Jyn frowned, tilting forward until her body touched his shoulder. His friend, a tall guy with a no-nonsense kind of face, raised a curious (judging) eyebrow. She ignored him.
âYou donât look hammered enough,â Jyn said. She had to admit: it made more sense in her head.Â
Cassian almost laughed. He tried to push her off his shoulder but Jyn didnât budge. âWhat do you want, Erso?âÂ
âDo you want to have a drink with me?âÂ
This time, the man froze and his face turned into a blank canvas, unreadable. âFunny,â he said and returned his attention to his friend, ignoring her.Â
A heated embarrassment crawled under Jynâs skin. Being rejected was fine, but did he have to be such a dick about it?Â
She pushed herself off his shoulder with a raging swing, head spinning. âHey, just because youâre fucking hot doesnât give you the right to be an ass,â she said like a spitfire. âDonât act like I offended you thinking Iâd even have a chance!â She kept her chin up, determined to walk away with dignity.Â
She could only blame the Spicebrew for doubling down on it, adding in a somewhat aggressive voice: âAnd Iâve got intel for you, Iâm a really good laid, soâ your loss, Captain!âÂ
This would do. Satisfied, Jyn turned around to dart off. Her feet were uncooperative. She almost banged her hip against a metal crate but rectified the trajectory fast enough, avoiding impact. Nothing to do with the pair of hands on her sides, now guiding her to the exit. Wait a secâÂ
Jyn glanced back to see Cassian walking behind her, escorting her to make sure she didnât finish with her face on the floor.Â
âWhat are you doing?â she asked, puzzled.Â
âYouâre shit-faced.âÂ
That didnât constitute any sort of answer. Besides, she didnât need his help to crawl back into her bunk. And she wasnât shit-faced, thank you very much, which he clearly hadnât seen enough to know the difference.Â
Jyn vocalized her annoyance and pushed on his sternum, hoping to restore some distance between them. âI can walk myself to bed, Iâm a big girl.âÂ
âAre you going to fight me again for trying to help?â he said, not as half-annoyed as she expected him to be.Â
His hands had left her, which she wasnât happy about. (Noâ stop.) He was still following her, though. Walking close enough for his arm to brush against her side, as if he expected having to catch her without warning. She wondered if he would break her fall. And although she knew how to take a fall uninjured, rumors had it that he was the best sniper around. Part of her wanted to test his reflexes.Â
âYou make it unavoidable,â Jyn said.
âWhich you clearly donât enjoy.âÂ
Did she imagine the smile coloring his voice? She had to stop and look at him to make sure. Her eyes widened a little, catching the discreet smirk at the corner of his mouth.Â
Blast! Jyn wanted to kiss those lips so badly tonight. Every night, really, but tonight especially. Her whole body shivered at the thought, feeling heat blooming into her chest and stomach. She pressed her back to a cold wall, signaling a full stop in the middle of the dark corridor. He paused in front of her.
âWhat if I do?â Jyn asked, feeling her brain cells abandoning ship way too quickly.Â

Why did she have to make everything so difficult; even when she was making it easy.Â
Cassian stopped in front of her in the corridor while sentients passed behind him effortlessly, some of them staring a bit too long. She had her head tilted back against the stone wall, her chin up and eyes half closed as she gazed at him, her lips parted. The Spicebrew still on her breath. While he stood close, their chests nearly touching, he had to close one hand into a fist to try to keep from doing something they would both regret later.
âArenât you tired of it?â he asked softly, searching her gaze; wondering if she would remember any of their exchange by morning.Â
âArenât you tired of it? This fight for your life?â he asked, chasing her through the marketplace city of Baiae on Manaan. She dodged a selkath at the last moment and tried to dip down a less crowded alley. Away from the sight of endless ocean and, better yet, prying eyes.Â
âIâm surviving just fine,â she growled and turned on him, narrowing her eyes.Â
âSurviving? What about living?â
âWhatâs the difference?â
âThereâs more to life than bouncing planet to planet--â
âWhat is it you do again?â she patronized.
â-- fighting for just another day. It can be so much more. Thereâs more to life than chasing temporary highs andâŠâ he waved his arm back and around their surroundings. âThis.âÂ
Jyn swallowed, breathing a bit harder than standing would call for, her chest puffed out. They searched one anotherâs gazes and in an instant she lifted her chin and shook her head. âYou donât even know who I am.âÂ
She turned to walk away and he stepped to follow. âJyn--â he started but in the blink of an eye she spun on her heel and flung out a truncheon to swing at his head.Â
Cassian ducked to avoid getting knocked in the head and countered to disarm her. They fought but Cassian merely deflected with the hope of finding an opening to stop her attack and de-escalate the fight. However, she was far more agile than he gave her credit for and he found himself on his back but not before, as a safety, he drew his blaster and held it against the side of her head, his finger safely off the trigger.Â
âHow do you know that name?â she asked.Â
âI know a lot, Jyn, and one of those things is that the rebellion would suit you. You enjoy the fight, so why donât you fight for something more than a mere existence; fight against an enemy. A cause. You wonât have to worry about a bed or food." He paused, exhaling a controlled breath. "If you donât like it, I wonât stop you from leaving.â
Jyn huffed a sigh against his lips and Cassianâs eyes widened, having not realized how close she had leaned, her green eyes gazing into his like she could read every thought in his mind; every intention from his soul.Â
âNot everything has to be a fightâŠâ he added and she inhaled deeply through her nose.Â
âNot in my experience.âÂ
âEverything alright here, Captain?â Major Altzermen asked from beside them and Cassian straightened, not realizing her had rested one hand on the wall next to Jynâs head or leaned so close. âSergeant?â
âYes, sirâŠâ they both replied, Jynâs a bit more slurred and Cassian repressed a wince.Â
The Major nodded and carried on their way after one last glance between them and this time Cassian grabbed Jynâs elbow to pull her away from the wall and back the way they had been headed. She pulled her arm from his grasp not three steps from where they started and repeated that she knew how to take care of herself. When they got to her quarters, Cassian kept close to the door and took a look around at the place she called home. He shoved his hands in his pockets.Â
Jyn pulled off her vest and tossed it on the chair in the corner and he was about to excuse himself when she pulled off her top too, tossing it away blindly while keeping her eyes on his. His throat closed up. His gaze was drawn down to what she had revealed and if this was a test on how decent he would be then he most certainly failed already. He inhaled deeply, unable to not appreciate the beauty, then looked back up to meet her gaze while shutting the door behind him, his lips pressed together. Force help any of the sentients that got a glimpse as they walked by, heâd silence them all.Â
âJyn,â he started, his voice coming out raspier than he intended.Â
âYes?â She started to walk up to him, her gait steady and confident, her eyes clear but pupils blown wide.Â
He swallowed thickly as she stopped right in front of him, her chin lifted.Â
Her hands went to his shirt and started to untuck the material from his waistband but he captured her wrists rapidly, halting her efforts. âStop.âÂ
âWhy?â
âBecause youâre drunk,â he replied, unwilling to proceed without proper consent, and thought: because if you regret this or take it back tomorrow it will destroy me.Â
Her eyes narrowed and the anger that flashed through her gaze made his stomach clench. âKark, they werenât kiddingâŠâ
Cassian furrowed his brow and watched her back away, pulling her arms from his gasp abruptly. âWhat?â he asked, a bit breathlessly, his heart pounding in his chest so hard he could feel it.Â
âThe others. They said you were impossible to seduceâŠâÂ
It was all a joke to begin with.Â
Maybe even a bet.Â
He dragged a hand down his face, from brow to chin and laughed ruefully, his bitter smile tight and a bit painful on his own lips. Although his spared glance back at her face revealed a moment of panic in her round eyes, a sudden blush to her usually fair cheeks, he just pushed out his lower lip and nodded a bit before turning to walk out of her room.Â
Jyn started after him on instinct, dread rising in her chest. The hurt in his eyes before he turned away almost sobered her right up, the pleasant buzz of the Spicebrew quickly draining out of her system. She could just imagine what he was thinking.
Oh, she really fucked this up now.
âCassian, wait!â she pleaded, fighting the urge to grab his arm. âThat came out wrong.â
He turned back but he was guarded now, no trace of the desire she thought she saw earlier in his eyes. Perhaps she imagined that. Why else would he keep turning her down?
Ignore that. She had to explain herself. Yeah, she was hurt about being rejected, but he couldnât seriously think she was that much of a sleazeball.
Itâs true, she had taken it as a challenge â
But no. She was just using that as an excuse to finally go for it. She had wanted this for a while.
âIt was not like⊠whatever youâre thinking right now.â
âIâm thinking that it was probably a challenge, maybe a bet: can you finally seduce the rigid Captain Andor?â
Clearly, he knew what they said about him behind his back, but she didnât think it would have bothered him so much â he was so ridiculously thick-skinned. Maybe it was just her perceived betrayal that got under his skin, and if soâŠ
She stopped herself there. How are you still thinking that you have a shot?
Cassian went on, âCongratulations, you won,â and a spike of anger made her see red.
âI didnât!â she burst out. âYou rejected me. Twice.â
Even as she stood in front of him in her breastband â that one hurt.
He gave a disagreeing shake of his head. âOnly because youâre drunk.â
Jyn rolled her eyes, muttering under her breath. âConvenient excuse.â
âItâs not â you think I want to take advantage of you?â
Iâm not that drunk, she wanted to insist, but something in his eyes caught her attention, and suddenly, she had more pressing matters at hand.
He seemed painfully honest, and Jynâs head spun with the implications of it.
âYou mean it,â she breathed. The fleeting grimace sweeping across his face was answer enough. He wasnât really rejecting her, he was just â
Trying to be a decent person.
Cassian turned around again, but she leaped after him, more insistent this time. Her fingers grazed his arm, just enough to make him stop.
âWait, wait â there was no bet involved.â
Cassian faced her again, his demeanor cautious. She let out a tiny groan, realizing that she was gonna have to explain for him to understand. Alright, so she called him a hot piece of ass, so what? That was nothing to be ashamed of. Sexual attraction was completely normal.
Face growing warm, she willed herself to look him in the eye.
âI said youâre hot and the others said I shouldnât bother because youâre impossible to seduce. There was no bet.â
She wasnât such a jackass, and she would have hoped he held her in higher regard.
âYou really think Iâd do that?â
Cassian shrugged. Her explanation seemed to mellow him, he was almost sheepish.
âMade sense for a second.â
âThanks,â Jyn remarked drily.
Now that they both pretty much admitted their attraction to each other â they had, hadnât they? â an awkward tension descended over the room.
Where did this leave them?
âI should go,â Cassian said quietly. Jynâs eyes widened, her stomach sinking.
âSeriously?â
âYouâre drunk,â he repeated for like the fifth time, and she wanted to groan â âBut. I will see you tomorrow.â
He leaned closer, their noses almost touching, his mouth ghosting over hers. A breath caught in her throat, she stared up at him with wide eyes. He wasnât going to kiss her, not now. She already knew that. The knowledge was almost agonizing, and anticipation for tomorrow thrummed in her veins like livewire.
Kriff, the bastard knew what he was doing.
âMaybe itâll be my turn to try to seduce you.â
And then her brain must have rebooted itself because the next thing she knew, he was at the door, slamming his hand on the control panel to open it.
Jyn took a deep breath, trying to get some oxygen back into her brain. Just to maintain some semblance of control and dignity, she raised her voice and called after him, âGood luck.â
The slight smirk he threw back at her made her feel a little feral.

Although his spared glance back at her face revealed a moment of panic in her round eyes, a sudden blush to her usually fair cheeks, he just pushed out his lower lip and nodded a bit before turning to walk out of her room.Â
âI will love you forever; whatever happens. Till I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead, Iâll drift about forever, all my atoms, till I find you againâŠâ
Or another option for the drabble prompts (feel free to pick one or both!): Rebelcaptain; 10 - After a near-death experience; and 29 - âYouâre not nearly as smart as you think you are.â
I chose this one for now, but Iâm keeping your other prompt in my inbox for later! Iâm afraid the near-death experience is more implied than anything because this isnât what I originally intended to do with this prompt, but... itâs where I ended up. Hope you like it!
Three hours into their flight back to base, and with seven more left to go, Jyn canât stand the silence anymore.
âWhat is your problem, Cassian?â
Itâs quite an aggressive starter, she knows⊠but sheâs channeling his anger, growing more and more frustrated each time she steals a glance at him and heâs still looking at his datapad. Working on his report. Always working.
After what he asked of her today, he doesnât get to be the one angry here.
He puts down his datapad like heâs expected this, been waiting for her to pick a fight. But somebody has to break the ice, and it wonât be him. He would rather keep it all locked in. Sheâd rather just get it over with.
âYou were unprofessional today.â
His words fuel her anger, and sheâs perversely glad. Sheâd rather be angry than upset.
âUnprofessional? I got us both out. I think I was quite professional today.â
âBut you didnât listen,â he hisses, his eyes flashing. Jynâs scowl deepens. âI canât work with someone whoâs unwilling to follow orders.â
âOrders?â
When you know theyâre wrong?
She shakes her head. Theyâre such a long way from that argument; she knows heâs not incapable of thinking for himself. But heâs still the good little soldier as ever, self-sacrificial to a point that makes her want to scream.
Have you no self-respect? What have they done to you?
âI will never follow orders that ask me to leave you behind.â
Even if they come from you, she adds in her head.
His response is swift, and sharp as a blade. âThen maybe we canât work together.â
Jyn recoils, blinking at him in shock. She stares and stares but canât find any remorse in his eyes.
âWhy? Because I put you ahead of the mission?â
âBecause you let yourself be ruled by your emotions.â
No. She shakes her head defiantly.
âI knew I could get you out.â
And I did. And no one got hurt, not from our side, at least.
âYou risked your own life to save me when I was already a lost cause.â
âNo, I knew I could get you out.â
Even if she hadnât known, she would have tried. It wouldnât have mattered.
But she doesnât say that. It would just prove his point, and she knows that this time, sheâs right. He told her to leave without him far too prematurely.
âYou didnât even want me to try,â she goes on, her voice strained with something deeper and uglier than anger. âAnd why is that? Didnât want me to risk my life? Maybe youâre the one who was blinded by emotions.â
He blinks at her, forehead creased in confusion.
âWhat does that mean?â he asks. Her response is a small, bitter laugh.
âThis is your problem, Cassian,â she begins slowly. âMost people would be touched by my loyalty. Grateful, even. Not you. You bury your head in sand and pretend you donât see it.â
âSee what?â
âThis.â She gestures around wildly, her voice rising as frustration building for months finally breaks to the surface. âMe.â
She pauses to see his reaction, hoping against hope that this time, she can finally get through his thick skull. Maybe heâll finally get it. Eyes wide, she waits. But seconds tick by and he shows no signs of understanding.
Jyn sighs.
Some intelligence officer he is.
âMost people would take the hint,â she says, just a tinge defeated.
And then his eyes go wide and he finally gets it â he must. The naked shock on his face is almost too much for her to bear.
âYou grew attached to me,â he says, voice quiet with realization. Almost pained. And attached⊠is one way to put it. âThatâs my fault, Iâm sorry.â
Jyn inhales softly. The air burns like fire in her lungs. She is so stupid.
âWhat did you think would happen when you welcomed me home?â she sneers, barely able to get out the words through the pressure in her chest. His words a physical weight crushing her alive. âIf you donât want my affection, you should have thought about that sooner.â
She stands violently, not knowing where sheâs going, just that she needs to be away from here â
But he catches her arm, just lightly enough that itâs a request, not a demand. Please stay. Against her better judgment, she stills.
âIf you think I donât want your affection, youâre not as smart as you think you are.â
Still standing, she looks back at him, a little peeved at those words.
âYouâre not giving me very clear signals here.â
His mouth twists into a grimace. Now, he lets her in, now, she sees the regret and apology in his eyes.
âIâm sorry. What I meant is⊠I know youâve lost a lot. I didnât want you to feel that way about me because I didnât want to end up on that list.â
Shaking her head, she steps closer and just barely resists the urge to reach out to him. If thatâs what heâs afraid of⊠Maybe she can still get through to him, after all.
âThen donât.â
His smile is humorless, his eyes a little pained.
âDonât you think itâs inevitable?â
âNot if you let me help,â she tells him, her voice hopeful again. âI had it handled today. There was no reason to leave you behind. You have to trust that I know what Iâm doing.â
âI know youâre very capable,â he assures her, his tone nothing but sincere.
âThen trust me,â she asks him. Their eyes meet, his dark and deep gaze hypnotizing. She gives into her urges and reaches for his hand, their fingers slowly intertwining. So unsure, so tentative, both of them like cowering animals, spooked by the faintest of sounds.
But she draws on her strength and squeezes, willing to stay and face her fears.
âAnd donât ask me to leave you behind again.â
i know this is predictable because it's one you like too but i just looooooove rebelcaptain. they had such a deep connection without even having a "real" romance and it's just so good? sometimes i think it's so good BECAUSE it wasn't a "real" romance. and don't get me wrong, they 100% deserved that happy ending with each other, but the allure of the almost is really strong with them.
lol idc if itâs predictable itâs a JOY AND A TREAT TO THINK ABOUT
it is a real romance anon dear, even if they didnât express their feelings to each other verbally or physically. that doesnât mean everyone has to read it romantically, but it definitely is a romance.
like okay I have the rogue one novel right here next to my bed and iâm gonna pull some quotes.
pg 85-86 (cassian while being lead to saw gerrera with the hood over his head, listening for information and brooding):
Most of all, he listened for Jyn. He listened for her struggles. He listened for her voice. He tried to determine which steady tread on the sand was hers. For all Cassian heard, she might have vanished from the face of Jedha.
Was it concern that made him fixate on her? His mission was to find Saw and, through Saw, find the pilot [âŠ] Jyn was first and foremost a means of finding Saw. Sheâd already served that purpose, which meant she was now expendable.
She dominated his thinking nonetheless. Cassian believed neither pity nor pragmatism explained it.
[âŠ]
Maybe it was the need heâd seen in Jyn, the fire that had carried her through the fighting in the Holy Quarter. It seemed obscene to leave that need unanswered, abandoned to the dust.
pg 87 (cassian)
âHey!â Cassian called. He rushed to the bars, cried out. âJyn Erso! Where is she?â
No one answered.
Youâre a fool, Cassian told himself. They wonât talk to you. But theyâll try to spot your weakness.
and one more, otherwise I will quote the whole book.
pg 154 (cassian): âHe looked at Galen Erso through his scope and saw his daughterâs eyes. With a hoarse and ragged cry, he swept the rifle away from the rocks and set it in the mud at his side.â (I do think this is kind of cheese but it is my kind of cheese, especially since he spends like a whole page angsting about his crimes).
Then she almost flopped next to him, his old couch make a few squeaks and ended up tilting her closer to him, the top of her head was almost at his shoulder. It seemed like she fit beside him, but he pushed that thought away, âI am.â
âSo whatâs your sick watching?â The remote was closest to Jyn and sheâd turned on the TV and was looking through his lasts. âDiscovery, thatâs probably Kay, Food Network, that looks more like you. And thereâs a Chopped marathon, that should work.â
He laughed and leaned back, ending up closer to her again, âYouâve figured out me out.â
from chapter 2 of Never let me hit the ground by @atthelamppost
âI assume logically, rationally, that you fight with the Rebellion. Itâs difficult to imagine Saw steering you any other way, and you always had the same angerââ He smiled for a second time. Here it was unforced, without self-mockery or bitterness. ââthe same insistent sense of righteousness as your mother. It frightens me to imagine you grown, somehow working to oppose injustice in the galaxy, whether from a laboratory or a starfighter; it frightens me, and I think the Rebellion could ask for no better friend.
âYet if it isnât so? If Iâm wrong, and you left the Rebellion and Saw behind but this message still finds you? You make me no less proud, Jyn. If you found a place in the galaxy untouched by warâa quiet life, maybe with a familyâif youâre happy, Jyn, then thatâs more than enough.â
