Being a trans man is so strange, like as soon as you come out your experiences stop belonging to you. The misogyny you face isn't about you, you can't claim it is or you're misgendering yourself. The transphobia you face isn't about you, no one actually cares if someone transitions to be a man. The homophobia you face isn't about you, you haven't suffered like a real gay man. If you struggle with toxic masculinity being pushed in you, you chose this, imagine what it's like for cis men who didn't get a choice.

my general opinion on what people should be "allowed" to portray and what topics they should be "allowed" to explore in fiction is that you can make whatever art with whatever themes you want but i'm also allowed to think the way you handled it was tasteless and should've been done differently. my negative opinion on your handling of sensitive topics is the price of admission for publicly showcasing your work. this is not a pro-censorship stance because i am not The Government

For makeup and clothes and nails and stuff, it's a lot like welding. Ask other welders. Get some good enough gear to start with but you don't need the top of the line. Learn the theory but practice well and practice often--practice is what will get you ahead. Run beads on plate drills and grind it off until it comes out well. YouTube has good tutorials.

For MIG and TIG and stick and stuff, it's a lot like makeup. Ask other women. Get some makeup good enough to start with but you don't need the top of the line. i think the reason "fiction affects reality" trips so many people up is because they think it means "engaging with media that depicts uncomfortable subjects will taint your soul" when really all it means is that "fiction is meant to reflect certain ideas of the world intentionally or not, and it's going affect your perception of it, if you don't go in with a healthy bit of skepticism"

Hey Americans! If you buy things from overseas, as of August 22 you probably don’t anymore.

Most foreign postal services have paused shipping of packages under $800 to the USA. You will hear that it’s “because of tariffs,” but that’s not exactly true.

It’s because the US:

Has not given anyone a way to pay those tariffs and

Has not been clear on what will ACTUALLY have to be paid. (The country’s tariff has been floated, but a US$80 flat fee has also been floated.

Many countries require people to pay tariffs when they receive a package. That’s fine. But you have to give people a way to pay the damn tariff. And there isn’t a way to do so. Apparently there isn’t even a PLAN for a way to do so.

So: if you have been buying from Etsy or eBay or a little shop overseas, if you subscribe to a foreign magazine, if you are an immigrant and you buy food from home via mail, now you will need to fly there and bring it home. Of course, the people who can afford that are also the ones responsible for this dumb policy.

I live outside the US. This is impacting businesses owned by my friends. This is impacting me, increasing the cost of sending items to friends and family (via courier or DHL now) . This sending-stoppage is a sensible global response to this badly thought out tariff imposition. This sucks.

Yes, Deutsche Post/DHL published a statement on this yesterday. I've been sweating about this issue for a while because I've got several books that I need to ship to the US in the next few months.

In Germany, all businesses cannot ship commercial goods to the US anymore using the "cheaper" services like DHL parcel and sales of goods parcel. They can use the express services which will be a lot more expensive. This is due to the fact that no-one fucking knows how high the tax will be and how it will be paid.

I'm sending my books as a private citizen anyway, so if I declare them as a gift (which I always do) and they're under $100 in value, I can still send them as a DHL parcel. It's likely that these parcels will be checked much more often now because businesses might try to send their goods as a gift to get aound all this hassle. So shipping times will go up all around...

Yeah NZ post also recently stopped sending parcels to the US. A lot of small businesses have been affected.

If you can, those outside of the US, please buy local. Small businesses need your business more than ever to stay afloat whilst mail companies work out how sending packages to the US will work with the tarrifs, and probably even after as there may potentially be an increase in shipping cost.
