pairings: Tasuku Takato x reader
summary: Being out on a cold winter night was unavoidable, but at least Tasuku managed to find warmth in the most unexpected way.
My cousin has zero faith in Tasuku being romantic, so here is my take on how Mr. Takato can take an interest in someone slowly and surely. I have my own headcanons on how he shows his romantic side but that’s for another day. Hope this story proves you wrong, cous. ♡
The wind couldn’t possibly pull a more sinister prank than this. With each breeze, a cold whisper creeped into his ears, painting the tips of them a pinkish hue.
Snow started to fall and the sight of it caused Tasuku to curse under his breath. The weather forecast was right indeed. A snowstorm was to be expected that evening and he had been outside for far too long.
Damn, I should’ve brought my scarf just now.
Clenching his fists, he shoved them deep into the pockets of his jacket and hastened his steps. Despite having an abundance of body heat, Tasuku was not immune to frostbites and the like. He knew better than to expose himself further to the coldness of the winter night.
From the corner of his eyes, he had noticed a quaint coffee shop just around the corner, nearly empty as the staff were preparing to close its doors for the day. Yet, there was a certain warmth emanating from the place, as if enticing him to take shelter for a while before continuing on his possibly perilous journey back home.
His pace gradually slowed down until he came to a halt, right in front of the heater placed by the entrance. Would it be possible to dash through the storm and get back safely, he pondered.
As he took out his hands and placed them near the heater, you came out from inside the coffee shop. The bell on the entrance rang as you kept the door ajar, only allowing your top profile peeking out, all so the cold winter breeze wouldn’t slip inside.
Looking at the tall brawny man, you noticed how thin his clothes are given the weather outside. He was only clad in a black sweater, layered with what seemed to be a cream bomber jacket.
Oh, no. Won’t he freeze if he remains outside a minute longer?
You would hate to leave this man dying in front of the shop while you were on duty. Imagine how mortified your manager would be if he found out.
Noticing the wind starting to pick up, you hurriedly asked, “Excuse me, sir. The storm’s brewing. It might be best to take shelter inside for a while. Would you like to come in?”
Shifting his attention to you, he swiftly replied, “No, it’s fine. I’ll just run through the storm back home.”
“Really? In those clothes?”
Scanning himself from head to toe for a second, Tasuku answered, “What’s wrong with my clothes?”
“Unless you want to lose one of your fingers, I insist you should come in.”
Examining Tasuku’s face left you with no clue about his thoughts. Not even a slight smile or a furrowing eyebrow, you hated wasting time in this guessing game. Especially not in this weather.
“Alright, I’ll take you up on the offer, then.”
It wasn’t as if he had other viable options. He figured he would bet on the snowstorm dying down fast rather than losing his fingers. It wasn’t as if he could outrun the wind anyway. He couldn’t left you standing by.
Your cheeks had started to blush further with each second your face was exposed to the outside air. It was better for him to head inside lest you had to suffer further from the cold, he thought.
Witnessing him putting his hands back into the pockets of his jacket, you swinged the door open and Tasuku stepped in, letting himself be enveloped in the warmth of the coffee shop.
He figured he could use that hot cup of coffee, after all.
He figured he also wouldn’t mind your company. He shrugged off the thought almost immediately. For whatever reason, he failed to even take a second to consider.
Yet, he knew heeding your words was the best option he could take at that moment. As he took his seat in front of the counter and waited patiently for his drink, he figured there was nothing wrong with spending some time there with you, the person who had offered him warmth on this cold winter night.
