ok I just skimmed though the movie again, and here she is in the beginning, she just doesn’t say anything, and you wouldn’t guess she was a girl because they didn’t do that weird humanizing, tits and longer eyelashes thing that most movies with animals do.

On another note, Coca-Cola and Nestle belong on every boycott list. Not just because they are complicit in the Israeli occupation but also because they have committed some of the worst human rights violations the world over. Coca-Cola has gone as far as having Union leaders murdered. Both Coca-Cola and Nestle steal water supplies and create water insecurity in already marginalised regions among many, many other crimes. I did not include them in the list because I am aware of how overwhelmed people become when they see those two companies and all their endless subsidiaries and I wanted to keep the list targeted on companies that have been the specific focus of the Palestinian BDS movement.

I have also excluded some brands that are often on older BDS lists, like McDonald's, because over the years they have stopped engaging in the activity that resulted in their boycott or have simply fallen to a lower priority because their relatively lower level of involvement compared to the brands that are our focus.

That being said, I hope this list will serve as a place to start. As always, do your own research to make informed decisions. For more information, you can also visit bdsmovement.net and bdslist.org

We still have memorials for Rachel Corrie here, she was a student from the college where I graduated. The local co-op where I used to volunteer is the only grocery store in the nation to join the BDS movement and has been barraged by lawsuits over that decision (which was made by democratic vote of the thousands of members) for more than a decade. Those lawsuits against a single small town grocery store have been in part funded by groups who receive funds directly from the Israeli government. That’s how much of a threat BDS is.

An Irish supermarket worker was fired in the 1984 for refusing to sell a piece of fruit that had been grown in South Africa (during apartheid). She and ten colleagues went on strike outside of the shop to protest the selling of South African goods and eventually their story became so well known that Ireland stopped importing goods from South Africa altogether. When Mandela was president, he came to Ireland and thanked those women in person for their help. People in South Africa still talk about Ireland's anti-apartheid movement. okay okay hear me out: the reason we hear about toxic masculinity but not toxic femininity is because the former is profitable to talk about but the latter would actively damage multiple industries. like if we pointed out that trying to be ultra feminine and conform to what a woman “should” be actively hurts a lot of women then industries like makeup, diet, fashion, and skincare would likely see a significant dip in profits, meanwhile talking about toxic masculinity doesn’t really hurt any industries because like, the way we’ve approached it as a society is that you can still be “manly” and typically masculine, just so long as you allow yourself to open up and show emotions once in a while, so no industry that profits off the whole “manliness” thing has been significantly hurt. but like, we can’t approach “toxic femininity” the same way, because part of what makes femininity so toxic is that women are often coerced into buying products (like makeup and some clothes) to make themselves more feminine and conform.

this is also why the main topic we talk about when discussing internalized misogyny is girls (not women - girls) who say they’re “not like other girls” and reject femininity altogether. it’s more profitable to act like the main source of internalized misogyny for women is women who resent other women for performing femininity correctly, the way they’re expected to, and not the other way around. it hurts no industry to act like the main source of internalized misogyny for women is women who reject what they’re being told is expected of them!!
