You are taking the piss the country in a drought and our government decided in the emergency meeting the best solution… ban portable bbq
People are acting obtuse on this post the issue isn’t the ban itself it’s that the had an emergency government meeting about the 5 heatwaves and the fact 2/3 of the country are in a drought and the only conclusion is “ban portable bbq”
While this government plans to do more oil drilling and open AI data centers that’s why we’re mad
banning barbecues is a good idea. like yeah. dont make fires any more likely. but
instead of ai data centers maybe they should build desalination plants to make reserves of water. if this is how our summers are going to be, solar desalination would be good.
make the water companies nationalised again. water should not be in a for profit system.
start cleaning up the major city rivers to be used as a source of potable water 🤷

(for people who don’t know kathleen stock is an infamous British terf who triggered a whole “free speech” university row over her views)
this is what people mean when they say that transphobia and ableism are interlinked. because *of course* the same person who refuses to believe people when they assert their gender also refuses to believe them when they assert a disability. because who knows their bodies better than a random british upper-class white woman!
and at the end of the day it really boils down to this vindictive need to police and bully strangers because 1. why do you care about someone saying they’re a woman, dressing like a woman etc. and 2. why do you care about someone using a walking stick if they don’t 100% need it? the answer is, neither of those things affect your life, and you shouldn’t.
golly its almost like there was some kind of virus going around recently that gave a bunch of people lifelong disabilities. does anyone remember anything like that?
In fact, given the tantalizing evidence of contact with the Polynesians in the coast of current Chile (they might have brought chickens to America) and that it Is widely known that canoes from the Patagonia sailed up the Paraná (trade goods from Patagonia have been found in Corrientes), it is possible that some Polynesians might have at least visited what today is Argentina, just very unlikely.
Much like the evidence of Mesoamerican/Andean contact, it's tantalizing but not quite proven. But I do believe the Andes were aware of Mesoamérica much like medieval Europe was aware of China and there were even occassional European/Christian communities in between and traders like Marco Polo and others.
We know for a fact that the whole of South America, from the Amazon to the Chaco to the Patagonia to the Colombian highlands, was aware of the Inca, as they described them to the Spanish and most likely they had exchange with them.
The pre-columbian América was much more connected than we think in my opinion (though do keep in mind these topics are still hugely debated)
Lol
you’re just gonna leave this in the tags?
A lot of people genuinely believe that permanent disability isn't a thing that happens to good people who work hard and make responsible choices. A lot of people genuinely think that we get the life we work for and deserve. And this is definitely part of the explanation for why ableism is so prevalent
One of my favourite bits of media history trivia is that back in the Elizabethan period, people used to publish unauthorised copies of plays by sending someone who was good with shorthand to discretely write down all of the play's dialogue while they watched it, then reconstructing the play by combining those notes with audience interviews to recover the stage directions; in some cases, these unauthorised copies are the only record of a given play that survives to the present day. It's one of my favourites for two reasons:
It demonstrates that piracy has always lay at the heart of media preservation; and
Imagine being the 1603 equivalent of the guy with the cell phone camera in the movie theatre, furtively scribbling down notes in a little book and hoping Shakespeare himself doesn't catch you.

listen i consider myself an empathic person but after a certain point i get sick of other people’s problems. my friend is always talking about how the jewel-eyed skull on their mantlepiece is tormenting them w its sinister beauty and im over it. like dude i don’t want to talk about this anymore. get rid of the fucking skull
you’ are biased against my skull
i’m not having this argument again man
