Emmrich sweetie the blight
This is the shit I'm talking about when I'm referring to his non-stop yapping during this quest. Like... EMMRICH. PLEASE.
You know what? Now that I think about it, it occurs to me that maybe he has such uncontrollable verbal diarrhea during Weisshaupt because he's fucking TERRIFIED.
Like you know how some people react really inappropriately to what's going on around them? (for example: I used to be notorious for uncontrollably laughing when someone was sad or crying, thankfully I broke myself of that REAL quick after about a week of working in a funeral home)
Maybe Emmrich's reaction to emotional stress that his lizard brain can't fucking reconcile with is he just starts asking questions. Question, after question after question. Are they relevant? No. Useful? No. Can they be plausibly answered by present company if the answer isn't rhetorical or blatantly obvious? Definitely not. Is he going to keep spouting them off because if he stops for even a minute, the reality of the situation will come crashing down on him all at once and he will FREEZE and probably die?
I think so.
I think Weisshaupt is a front row seat to how Emmrich copes with a crisis that he can't personally fix.
The found family ever
they hate each other <3
crops below cut
Turning into an adult is so crazy. I had a nightmare last night about accidentally paying 300 Euros for a slice of ham. I woke up sweating. No one prepares you for that.
what it feels like to take emmrich and davrin with you as your team
it's basically just emmrich 'gentle parenting' volkarin vs davrin 'tough love' the warden
Different dads, different techniques
Still can’t decide if I want to ride this man forever or hug him forever
Just analyzing Ilario and Lucanis’s relationship and it’s got me thinking…I know Lucanis makes at least one comment in game that Ilario has always been a better flirt/much smoother in that area than him. And yes while Lucanis is naturally more reserved than his cousin, I’m wondering if some of this wasn’t put into his head by Ilario. Because yall that jealousy for Lucanis did not just manifest overnight. That has been building for some time. I’m barely into the Wigmaker Job and Ilario’s already made a comment about not being the favorite/the lesser Dellamorte/etc. Besides, Lucanis isn’t bad looking in the slightest and, according to Teia, has a heart underneath the intense exterior. I imagine people have crushed on him before, even if it’s secretly.
ANYWAYS, what if anytime Lucanis dared to admit to liking someone (and his crushes may have already been few and far between) Ilario got in the middle of it and ruined it? Not an “in your face” ruined it (since Lucanis still doesn’t see him as a full fledged problem until we discover the betrayal with Zara) but making little subtle “teasing” put downs that keep Lucanis from really trying for it? Joking like what Lucanis would even talk to them about if it’s not his job or wyverns. What gifts would he get them since he’s such a bad gift giver (hello knives to Viago). Etc. Just things that could be passed off as teasing but with hindsight, were actually little points of sabotage that kept Lucanis from trying further. (We see how he is in Lucanis’s mind prison and how he is on the coffee date trying to play that Lucanis is unreasonable and irrational after Caterina’s apparent murder. AND how Ilario portrays Lucanis to the rest of the Talons when Ilario tries to seize power. Not to mention that letter he writes Lucanis after Zara is taken care of).
THEN on top of mentally sabotaging any romantic chances for his cousin, maybe Ilario even dares to seduce whoever Lucanis liked just for the fun of it, just to prove he can have anything Caterina’s favorite has or wants. Not saying it happened every time butttttt it would add another interesting layer to their dynamic. And we know it’s likely Lucanis would have overlooked it since he’s got such little family left and man just wants to be loved.
gotta flirt with the old man
I know Veilguard is much smaller than DAI but, honestly, the whole situation could've been better even without global changes.
Just side quests improvement.
Dalish elves
We can pretend all dalish decided to forget their religion at once. No regrets or doubts, just - poof! - all of them are atheists. But
Change one of the Veil Jumpers quest to: Rook returns to the D'Meta Crossing and finds a loyal dalish elves making a pilgrimage to the place where "Creators" revealed their presence. Rook can persuade dalish to leave the place because they risk to become blighted (+ Veil Jumpers reputation for saving) or Rook can wipe dalish out because they refuse to listen (+ Grey Wardens reputation for stopping the blight spreading).
Minrathous
Change one of the side quests to: Rook helping Shadow Dragons to save the slaves from venatori. A warehouse (quest location that exists in game already) with cages and victims prepared to be sacrificed in a blood magic ritual. Rook can prove they're committed to help and Shadow Dragons starts to see Rook as a reliable ally (+ Shadow Dragons reputation). It would make the Minrathous vs Treviso decision more interesting. Maybe it would even add more sense in Neve's constant "Minrathous is broken" comments.
(Also it could've been tied to other faction. Mourn Watch, for example. Venatori is already crawling around in Grand Necropolis with their spirit traps. Let them capture a few Watchers who tried to stop venatori from catching the spirits for Zara Renata's experiments. If Rook saves those prisoners, team gain + Mourn Watch reputation).
Treviso
Antivan Crows is an assassin's guild. They're killing people for money. Whoops. I'm sorry, it's not "killing" - it's a contract. Anyways
Change one of the side quests to: Rook has to finish the contract (we already have that kind of quest), but let it be not a bad evil Antaam. Let it be a random Treviso citizen. Let Rook be unsure about it, if they're not de Riva. Let them have this "huh?? we need Crows as allies but the killing for no reason??? what the actual heck?!" kind of frustration. And then just make this Treviso citizen a traitor to make Crows look better if that's so necessary.
It's a small changes, and it wouldn't require great efforts. It wouldn't change the faction system and wouldn't ruin the world state if we're narratively trapped (like the Dreadwolf) in a safe northern bubble (with no religious conflict between Black Priest and Divine, no political issues, no south/north and Tevinter/Nevarra and Veil Jumpers/loyal dalish conflicts). But it still could've make the world more "real". Not that hard, yes?
My analysis of Emmrich is that when the team goes out drinking he mostly sits watching them gossip while he drinks fancy wine and the others think he'll just sort of sit and quitely relax until, several glasses in, he opens with "May I say something unkind?" and then proceeds to drop tea so scalding it could boil an ocean
what i love about lucanis is that when i first saw him, i was like "oh latin lover trope whatever". but hes a self-critical 35 year old virgin with anxiety. and also a demon. and also family issues.
he gets all big and flirty but runs away when he gets nervous. hes my little meow meow. my little pathetic wet eyed man. hes insanely powerful. has a literal demon in him that possesses him all the time. i pat him on his head and kiss his face
i think you’d have to cut off my hand to stop me from drawing copious amounts of emmrook
There's just something about Rook and Lucanis reaffirming their support and love for each other throughout the game that makes me so emotional.
