That's why sometimes blind casting doesn't always work as progressive especially when they dont even bother to cast greeks! In a scene they had a greek who spoke greek and the Odysseus men needed a translator to understand saying to the Greek's face "we are the Greeks of ithace" in perfect english

Here's an unpopular opinion: blind casting never works because it simply doesn't make sense. The only time it actually did was in 1997's Cinderella, because that movie hardly took itself seriously in the first place (Whitney Huston as the Fairy Godmother for instance).

When you claim however that you "studied the Odyssey for 20 years" and decide to sell it as "the most faithful adaptation of Homer" and what we see is different from what you claim you're giving us, then judgement is just and well-deserved.

Now, Nolan isn't very famous for being a good writer (hence why he's so keen on winning an Oscar for his writing). Adding to that "supposed Greeks don't understand Greek man who speaks Greek" sequence, here are some other gems from the film:

"We're going on an Odyssey" (told by.... Odysseus himself)

"We're witnessing the end of the age of Bronze" (same as someone who lived during WW1 saying "We're witnessing the end of World War One")

(and for the life of me) Penelope and Odysseus leaving the throne to Telemachus and then running off into the sunset.

I'm pretty sure that if Anne Hathaway was visibly pregnant during filming, Nolan would've found a way to incorporate her pregnancy into the storyline as well. Never mind that Odysseus would've been miles away. The world's first pregnancy by telepathy or something.
