One time a friend told me that if she wanted to have a chill night she would come to me and ask for tea and a book to read. ok I looked her up and her name is Sheila Atim!! she is a Ugandan-British actress and did in fact perform in an all-female Shakespeare trilogy in Donmar Warhouse (Caeser, Henry IV, Tempest), set entirely in a women’s prison.

I think the rampant mischaracterization in fandom can be attributed to many things, but often comes down to a theory I call fanfic relativism. that is when certain behaviors are so normalized amongst a cast, that when one character deviates from that behavior (e.g. they appear “nicer” than the rest) this gets exaggerated amongst the fans. for example, in just this last vampire lestat episode, we have witnessed stalking, manipulation, bribery, more incest, more violence, and driving a man to suicide. so people forget that daniel “bright young reporter” molloy is a scathing bitch with an explicitly negative moral compass. and when people do remember that, then suddenly armand is a sweet shy boy who did nothing wrong, despite patently causing the tragic finale last season. and honestly I love how the show manages this. it feels great to get pummeled through the unreliable narration like a hurricane simulator. even when no one is technically narrating
