I have a confession to make.... I hit the snooze button this morning and missed my workout. But, the extra sleep time has had a magical effect on my morning thus far! I haven't been getting enough sleep lately and this morning my body spoke up. Runners regularly need more sleep because of their active lifestyle. The body needs time to repair itself after a run and this happens during sleep. Next steps, reassess my sleep times and adhere to a bedtime schedule that is conducive to my workout schedule and lifestyle. Easier said than done, but necessary. Juggling family, work and training for marathons is a difficult balancing act. But, it is worth it! Don't be upset with yourself if you miss a scheduled workout or a run. The snow is coming down this evening but I am okay with that because I completed my 9 mile long run yesterday and early this morn, the #nyrr #WashHeights5k, also known as the NYRR Salsa, Blues and Shamrock 5k. The race took place in upper Manhattan's diverse and picturesque Washington Heights neighborhood. On a hilly course that circles Fort Tyron Park and the historic Cloisters, runners were serenaded by musical groups playing salsa, blues and Irish folk music, plus gospel, merengue and jazz!
