"How do people who don't drink or smoke get through a shit day" babe have you heard of ao3
Sometimes you need to read something twice to get it. You might need to watch a movie three times to understand it. You might have to have that album on repeat for a week until the lyrics make any sense. You're allowed to engage with it and can keep engaging with it until it means something to you. People will see a painting at a museum and laugh about not getting what the big deal is but like you can come back, you can see it at another time, and maybe that next time it'll be different for you. I'm of the belief the "media literacy crisis" would solve itself if more people just sat down and did it again. Watched, read, played, listened, etc like I don't think people are getting more ignorant necessarily I just think we're not glorifying personally replaying things nearly as much as we should be.
I absolutely Adore this kind of Art style, like, it's just shapes but fancy.
the worst is wanting to create and create and create but being trapped in a body that is so so so so tired
bingewatching will never come close to bingereading. there is nothing like blocking out the entire Earth for ten hours to read a book in one sitting no food no water no shower no bra and emerging at the end with no idea what time it is or where you are, a dried-up prune that's sensitive to light and loud noises because you've been in your room in the dark reading by the glow of a single LED. it's like coming back after a three-month vacation in another dimension and now you have to go downstairs and make dinner. absolutely transcendental
i know we hate harry potter now but when i was 14 me and my brother split the cost of the 4th harry potter book one saturday morning and my brother looked at me and said 'you spent your life training for this' and i was like 'yep' and lay down on the couch and slammed it in a single day. then gave it to my brother at dinner. and he was like 'you're an absolute freak. thanks.' and it took him a week.
i rode that high for the rest of ninth grade probably, where i did the exact same thing to a hundred other books too.
"who radicalized you" ever since i was a child i wanted other people to be treated nicely and fairly because i didnt understand why theyd deserve otherwise and it fills me with disgust seeing how people treat their fellow human beings sometimes
Maddie being introduced as this literal ray of sunshine and then being the first to beat along to Piltovers turn to martial law. Her interactions with Vi mystifying her as “one of the good ones.” One of the good Zaunites. She was always discriminatory toward Zaunites, they just didn’t make it overt at her introduction. The turn to fascism and discrimination can start with anyone. Including a literal ray of sunshine.
There’s a saying: “The nicest cop you know would still sweep a homeless encampment.” And the nicest enforcer you know would still gas you with The Grey and cheer on martial law
I know the animation industry has been going through a serious rough patch in the past 10 years. I just hope the medium and the artists making it can get the respect they deserve someday soon. So I wanna take a moment to spread a reminder of the powerful emotional scenes we've gotten from animation in the past 10 years.
Work work work work work work!!!
Reading The Way of Kings is really funny so far because you go from reading about Kaladin and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day(s) to Shallan and her sailor buddy Yalb's wacky book-buying adventure back to Kaladin about to fucking kill himself.
So, I'm watching The Glory (2022) and I absolutely love how, in EP. 6, Yeo-jeong goes from "I can fix her" to "we can be worse together" in just two seconds.
im defending ada dazai w my life idc
