"You should tell me what's bugging you."
"I know what the look means."
"Maybe you can spend the night, if you say it."
"Sweet like sugar, tell me what I want to hear."
"All I need is you beside me."
"Why spend mine when I could spend yours?"
"Nothing is free in this world."
"I feel so empty and hollow."
"You don't even recognise the ways you hurt me, do you?"
"I guess that's what I get for wishful thinking."
"Do the mistakes I've made make me a fool, or a human with flaws?"
"Sometimes, it feels like they want me to lose."
"I'd like to think that I'm pretty normal."
"You're in the city of wonder."
"Am I scaring you tonight?"
"I feel like a monster."
"How about a round of applause."
"You look so dumb right now."
"Don't tell me you're sorry, 'cause you're not."
"You say I'm not your type but I can make you sway."
"Baby, baby, please believe me."
"Make me think, but don't deceive me."
"Look alive, sunshine."
"Louder than god's revolver and twice as shiny."
"Hit the gas, kill 'em all."
"Shut up and sing it with me."
"Shut up and lemme se your jazz hands."

"Die with you mask on, if you've got to."
"Everybody pay attention to me."
"This ain't a party, get off the dance floor."
"Ain't nobody gonna get the best of me."
"Ain't no preacher gonna save me now."
"I hope you're ready for a firefight, 'cause the devil's got your number."
"We're never leaving this place alive."
"We can live forever, if you've got the time."
"Just save yourself and I'll hold them back tonight."
"Make a wish when your childhood dies."
"Never mind about the shape I'm in."

"I would even wait all night, or until my heart explodes."
"They don't like who you are."
"I don't believe in luck."
"You only live forever in the lights you make."
"You only hear the music when your heart begins to break."
"Alright, children, the lights are out and the party's over."

Smth smth thinking about the symbolism of names and the notion that in verses where she has full control of her powers Char (Charity) could more accurately be called Mercy because she has the capability to spare you from death or equally grant you a merciful one smth smth the line between charity and mercy is as thin as the one between justice and vengeance smth smth
@stabheavy liked for a lyric starter
"You must think that I'm crazy if I don't see through that grin."
"what can i say? she was being annoying, and i got rid of her. can't a man be happy?"
There's a long, long, long beat as Char turns the sentence over in her brain. "Who did you get rid of?"
She enters the room just in time to see him struggling with the bottle and feels like an asshole for not having considered that it could be an issue. It isn't even that she forgets about his arm (although that happens sometimes), it's just that even now she has a hard time picturing Five being unable to do something. Even as kids he had almost always been the fastest to take to things, the most capable, and it's hard to shake that impression sometimes. Not so hard now, when he seems so defeated at needing help.
Char takes the bottle and cracks it open wordlessly, shaking a few pills out into the palm of her hand. She hesitates a moment, briefly contemplating telling Five to open his mouth while his hand is occupied with the ice pack, but decides against it. Instead she sets the open bottle and pills down by his coffee mug and starts to make her way to the bathroom. "Let me see if I've got a bandage or something we can sling that ice pack with, they're so annoying to hold in place." The implied so you can free up your hand hangs unspoken in the air.
It only takes a second to grab the rarely-used first aid kit from beneath the bathroom sink, and she brings it back into the sitting room to start rummaging through it as she talks. "The breathing, the bass drum in my chest, the constant wooshing in my ears. Seriously, how the fuck do people live with this shit their whole lives?"
he keeps the ice pack against the stump && feels it begin to numb slightly . it doesn't completely dissolve all the pain but it does help a little , for which he is grateful for . it's been a hard month adjusting . to think , barely eight weeks prior , he was working for the commission , he looked how he felt . he was just preparing to abscond && head back to the family in 2019 . && now ... almost everything had changed . no powers , no job at the commission , family divided . for the others it had been years for them , but for five ? barely two months . && only a few weeks since they had managed to get out of hotel oblivion .
he's still getting used to his new reality && he has no idea if he will get used to it . but then he remembers that he didn't think he would get used to the apocalypse && he did . he didn't think he'd get used to the commission . && he did .
he'd get used to this too .
though he wishes he didn't have to rely on char too much .
he watches her as she opens the pill bottle for him && then leaves it beside his cup . five momentarily puts the icepack down && reaches for the pills , downing them in one go before reaching for his coffee to wash out the powdery aftertaste .
when she mentions she's going to the bathroom , five moves around the sitting room && places the icepack back up against the wound , which is still healing && would be for a time . when she returns , she's talking about all the noises that bodies make && how surreal && noisy it is .
❝ most of the time we don't notice it . ❞ he says . ❝ that's why those soundproof rooms fuck people up . because suddenly they can hear all the things that their bodies are doing all at once . humans aren't built to hear all bodily functions all the time . we''d go mad . between hearts beating , lungs expanding && deflating , intestines literally moving -- it can get noisy . you forget viktor managed to use his own heartbeat to blow open that cell . ❞
The glare she shoots him is as dry as it is half-hearted. "Gee, Five, glad to know my slowly deteriorating sanity is totally normal and not at all a cause for concern." Even now she can hear the constant rush of blood through her ears and feel the thump thump thump in her chest - it's no wonder Viktor was able to turn that din into an explosion.
Char's attention returns to the first aid box and after a moment she finds what she's looking for, one of those shitty paper-thin bandages that can be folded into a makeshift sling. She rips open the packet and shakes the bandage out, and with a few quick folds creates a piece of frabic wide enough to accommodate and secure the ice pack at Five's elbow, while being long enough to loop over and under his shoulder to tie in place.
She frowns at it for a moment before digging through the box again for some gauze pads, and then approaches Five with the whole pile. "I'll try and make you something more sturdy in the morning, but this should hopefully work for now, if we pad your shoulder with the gauze to keep it from rubbing too much. Let me tie it for you?" The last part is said almost tentatively; she knows that Five doesn't enjoy relying on people for anything, but she wants to help, wants him to know that she wants to help.
Rain patters lightly against the window, hardly more than a light dusting of droplets that don't even have the weight to roll down the pane more than an inch. Barely worth the effort of wearing a jacket.
Still, Char can't help but consider that maybe she should have checked the forecast while she was still on solid ground.
She redoubles her grip on the window ledge just as her foot loses purchase against the wall, and it's an exciting moment of scrabbling before she can wedge the toe of her sneaker into a groove. She takes a moment to steady herself before carefully removing one hand from the ledge so she can bang against the window.
"Hey, open the fucking window already!"
The sudden sound sends Cherry's paintbrush clattering to the floor. She looks to the window as if she'd seen a ghost. In fact, it's the opposite: not a single soul here had the courtesy to alert her to Char's presence. Ingrates. If anyone from the great beyond expects to hitch a ride with her, the least they can do is warn her that company is arriving.
She reluctantly abandons her canvas at her own pace. Char will be fine. Cherry shakes her head, looks off to the right, then beckons for Char to follow her to the adjacent wall of the apartment. A few seconds later, the balcony door to Char's left rattles open.
Cherry leans outside, not keen on getting any wetter than she absolutely has to. "Window's jammed," she calls out. It's the closest Char will get to an apology. She should be familiar with the risks of scaling buildings. God only knows Cherry has found herself in a similar predicament more times than she'd care to admit.
"Need a hand? I got two." Yet neither of them seem to be particularly willing to help, as she crosses her arms and folds them against her sides. "Coffee's hot, if you want it."
For a moment, she thinks that Cherry isn't going to let her in. Which isn't a problem, per se, it's not like she wouldn't just drop back down to the ground and pick the front door lock instead, but it would be nice to have permission to enter.
Luckily for everyone it seems that this won't be necessary, and Char readjusts her grip as she waits for Cherry to move across the room and open the balcony door.
"You should really get that fixed, it's rude to leave your guests hanging," she says, flashing a grin even as the rain starts to fall a little heavier. A few more seconds and she thinks she might not be able to maintain her grip. Char pulls herself up as high as she can before flinging herself sideways, managing to hook a hand and foot into the balcony railing while the others dangle in open air for a few seconds.
And then twists to pull herself over the railing, landing on her back on the balcony itself at Cherry's feet. Still grinning as rain continues to land on her face. "Coffee sounds good."
I really want to redo my carrd a bit (the verses need rejigged at the very least) but I truly cannot be arsed to open my laptop and also head still hurty. Just know I am Always open to answering any questions you have about Char
