LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES ft. nutmeg & five / @temp0rt5l
@temp0rt5l gets the fangs
her voice is a soft thing in her throat when she says: "i'm so sorry to intrude but... are you dismantling a vampire tap?" and maybe she shouldn't have said something at all, because the last time she did open her mouth, she got blood in her system and she got her neck snapped and she woke up as an actual vampire.
either way, she's just going to have to be forgiven for the imposition. "that's so cool."

"What I want to hear doesn't matter." Her voice is quiet, but firm. She analyzes him silently. In the entirety of the brief time she's known him, he's been hard to get a read on. Slowly, her eyes fall to his hands. Maybe it's the prosthetic. She has no meaningful experience with them, but she knows they need occasional readjustments and can cause pain or chafing. Something physical is something easily remedied, at least compared to troubles of the heart or mind. When he turns away, she studiously fixes her gaze on the nearest wall.
"Call it...preventative maintenance. Like a small fix on a car before it gets out of hand, and you end up with something more costlyโor irreparable." Her arms cross. She mulls it over. "But people made sacrifices to satiate volcanoes, and those never stopped eruptions."

There was something distinctly humiliating about not being able to travel entirely on her own. For most people, this was a non-issue. They were completely unaware that moving in time as well as space was even a possibilityโthat they were leaving half their range of motion on the table. It was different when her mother was the only traveler she knew. Naux was an anomaly, not an ability to be counted on. Then Nutmeg met Five.
To say she was envious of his power was an understatement. When he mentioned the subway, her eyes lit up. It wasnโt exactly the same thing, but it held the promise of more independence than sheโd ever thought possible. She could finally have solo journeys, experiences meant for her and her alone. No more minding her siblings as the de facto leader of the group. No more Nutmeg Naux. Just Meg. Then he yanked her back to reality.
She stared at him with the dazed confusion of a boxer who was struck one time too many. All her dreams, up in smoke.
โIโm not a child!โ she protested. The jolt of electricity she pulsed through herself to get away from him suggested otherwise. โAnd if I were, even children know how to navigate public transit.โ This, however, was unlike any transit system sheโd ever encountered.
Her gaze dejectedly followed the departing train until it was no longer visible. Loath as she was to admit it, there had to be a reason Five pulled her back. โEven if I end up somewhere really bad, I just have to wait for the return train, rightโฆ?โ

she's been focused in on five's hands ever since he first reached for the little tin of sugar packets . seemingly an out of character move โ he takes his coffee black โ but any suspicion that had started to nag in the back of her mind dissipates when the sugar is dumped onto the table rather than his mug . which , somehow , sits relatively untouched , just the same as her four shots of espresso .
it's a slow and gradual shift , tracing her gaze up five's figure , to the collar of his shirt , up to his face . exhaustion , god , to her five wears it on his sleeve . and there's distant look in his eyes that she watches fade away when she finally speaks .
in truth , wednesday had just wanted his attention , to pull him back from getting too lost in his own head . so she said the first thing that came to mind . although maybe , deep down , there is always a reason for what gets said on instinct .
โ i prefer ghosts . and even then , there are some i'd rather not deal with . โ a false glare , intended for a recently developed spirit guide ( although she's not around to see it ) , is sent out the window to the empty space right outside . but her eyes quickly find their way back to five , the glare ever so slightly softening at him .
โ what โ if you didn't zone out while we were talking . โ nice save . she was seconds away from nearly being vulnerable in public . there's a reputation to uphold here . โ i had half a mind to start pouring all those sugar packets into your coffee just to see if you'd notice . โ
