Lucca’s show career as come to a close. While he possesses enough positive attributes to finish, his breeder and I decided he doesn’t have enough to benefit the future of the breed.

Lucca is still heavily loved regardless, and we both have more fun doing agility anyway.

Continuation of jump training. Lucca should be able to take a jump no matter where I am. This is also working on proofing his start line, which he struggles with.

Yesterday, while talking with my significant other, I was debating whether or not to enter Lucca in conformation in the beginning of 2020. We’ve been on a break from showing since August of 2019 (I cover way in a previous post). We spoke at depths about it, and I came to the conclusion that I miss competing with him.

See we’ve been working on agility, but I know we are still awhile away from our first trial, and I just want to get out and compete. Patience is not one of my strengths, and I’m excited at the progress we’ve both been making. I want to set him up for success and I know that rushing him into a trial he’s nor I am ready for will be doing that. We’ll continue training and preparing hopefully to get to our first trial some time by the end of the year.

Lucca is taking a break from the show ring. The biggest reason is we’re not having fun with it. He was shown a handful of time this year, and while he’s half way to his championship I decided it was time for a break.

I’ve told many people it’s so he can grow up and physically mature, and yes that’s part of it, but not the real reason. It was incredibly hard for me to just admit that after 9 years of showing, and finishing multiple dogs that showing Lucca is not fun or rewarding. So we’re trying something new.

Lucca and I started agility classes a couple weeks ago, and it just confirmed that I’m doing the best thing for both of us. We both are having a blast.

Lucca is quickly approaching 2 years old. It’s crazy how time flies!

I’m ready for spring hikes and summer swims in the lake. I’m over this muddy snowy mess of winter.

this may be my most controversial opinion yet but I think all dog breeds should come in miniature, standard and giant

The idea of a giant Bulldog terrifies me.

I love Wander, but a great dane sized border collie is probably my worst nightmare.

Serious question though. Would the standard size be the breed’s current size? Because I have zero desire to have a clydesdale size Great Dane laying on my couch.

Lucca has seemed to hit teenage hood early. It seems to be coinciding with one of my breeder’s bitch getting ready to come into season. Lucca has been living between our two households for his entire life. He’s being transitioned into primarily living with me. I’m already missing my sweet puppy. 

So I’m welcoming in boy brain, and being suddenly a cocky big puppy. Hopefully an early teenager means early adult brain.
