This is the most interesting property I’ve ever found- for $1,299,900, you can own a stunning cave attraction (in Missouri) that needs a little TLC to get up & running again, plus an 1893 house that’s included.
According to the family that owns the historic property, it should only take a little work to get it ready to open to the public, b/c it already has electricity & handrails. It hasn’t been inspected in awhile, so it would need to be deemed safe.
The former owner, who bought it in 1982, cared deeply for his cave, says his son-in-law, but couldn’t keep up with the high cost of insurance.
His father-in-law toiled in the cave, using a 5-gallon bucket to remove dirt and clay to open various chambers. He crawled through tight openings and saw the wondrous sights on the other side, so he created passageways. It was back-breaking work.
The cave goes 102 feet underground. It has four main passageways and a few offshoots. Each goes no farther than one-eighth of a mile.
The cave has eight different rooms, or chambers, including “The Chimes Room,” where the ceiling forms a dome or bell and some of the stalactites create a musical note when gently struck by a tour guide.
There’s also the “Helictite Room,” with cave formations that twist and turn.
Can you imagine owning this?
It’s beautiful property and the 1893 house was fully refurbished.
