"we detected a mature post" yeah I'm in my 30s
Bardmage except it's actual 1980s Dustin and El that accidentally stay behind when the UD is being destroyed, and they both get isekai'd into a DnD world where magic is real.
Dustin learns to be a Bard after being teleported right next to a group of adventurers. El shows up in a palace, uses her powers to defend herself and is immediately hailed as a powerful Magic User.
The language is different here, wherever they are. They know they are not speaking English—it sounds different to the ears and on their tongues—but whatever it is, they can speak it and understand it without issue. Dustin can still try to speak English, but he has to consciously move his mouth to achieve the pronunciation; there's way more effort now, like it is a second language he hasn't practiced in a long time.
They don't meet for years, having to get used to their new lives in a new world. They lose all hope of finding each other—until Dustin travels to a kingdom where El is revered as the most impressive Magic User of the region, on the day of a big parade where the entire royal family is supposed to attend.
He hears the tales, and her name, and dares to hope. She calls herself Elle Jane here, it would be too much of a coincidence, right? He has to attend the parade. He has to try and see for himself if El is somehow here, too.
He gets a vantage viewpoint by climbing a lantern pole, above the hundreds of people crowding the streets. There's several entertainers and foot soldiers walking in the middle of the street, and after what feels like an eternity, Dustin sees her. She's with the King and Queen, dressed in the richest gown Dustin has ever seen since he got here, and she doesn't look up, but it's her. It has to be her.
Dustin calls her name as a final test. He calls El, no response. He calls Jane, no response. He almost takes it as him making a mistake, but then he hears the crowd around him—they're all shouting her name as well. He will never call her attention like this. So he changes tactics.
He casts a spell (he knows how to do that now—easily one of the best parts of this new world) on himself that will amplify his voice. He focuses on the word, in English, before speaking. He takes a deep breath, and when he says it, it resonates through the street as the car where the royal family stands gets farther and farther.
"ELEVEN!"
He watches as El raises her head, and turns around, wide-eyed. He waves desperately at her with one arm, while the other secures him to the pole. El—his El, she has to be his El—throws herself against the back part of the car that is taking her through the streets.
"Dustin!!" He hears her voice shouting in the distance.
It's her. It's his El. She's alive, and she's here, she's been here the whole time and she's safe. Dustin is so relieved, so happy he nearly colapses from the lantern pole over the people below him. The Queen tries to reel El back to the front of the car, and there seems to be an argument. Dustin doesn't see the end of it, since the car has reached a bend on the street and disappeared. It's okay, however. He's found her. He knows where she is now. All he has to do is get himself an appointment in the castle and then he'll be closer to talking to her.
His plans are cut short. After a few moments and the rest of the parade following the car of the royal family, two guards appear by Dustin's lantern pole, having cut through the crowd in record speed.
"Sir, we are here to escort you to the castle. Please accompany us."
Dustin obliges, getting down from the pole and being all but dragged by his arms towards the castle.
He is taken to the throne room, and the guards keep watch so he doesn't take anything that doesn't belong to him. He waits impatiently until the parade is over and the royal family returns to the castle. Eventually, the big doors of the throne room open again, and El bursts through them, causing Dustin to shoot up from the bench he was sitting on. They lock eyes, and immediately run towards each other, meeting in the middle and crashing into a hug. They end up kneeling on the hard marble floor, clinging to each other like they'd die if they let go. El pulls away just enough to hold Dustin's face in her hands, and touch her forehead to his.
For the first time in years, they feel close to home.

Can't afford art school?
After seeing post like this 👇
And this gem 👇
As well as countless of others from the AI generator community. Just talking about how "inaccessible art" is, I decided why not show how wrong these guys are while also helping anyone who actually wants to learn.
Here is the first one ART TEACHERS! There are plenty online and in places like youtube.
📺Here is my list:
Proko (Free, mostly teaches anatomy and how to draw people. But does have art talks and teaches the basics.)
Marc Brunet (Free but he does have other classes for a cheap price. Use to work for Blizzard and teaches you everything)
Aaron Rutten (free, tips about art, talks about art programs and the best products for digital art)
BoroCG (free, teaches a verity of art mediums from 3D modeling to digital painting. As well as some tips that can be used across styles)
Jesse J. Jones (free, talks about animating)
Jesus Conde (free, teaches digital painting and has classes in Spanish)
Mohammed Agbadi (free, he gives some advice in some videos and talks about art)
Ross Draws (free, he does have other classes for a good price. Mostly teaching character designs and simple backgrounds.)
SamDoesArts (free, gives good advice and critiques)
Drawfee Show (free, they do give some good advice and great inspiration)
The Art of Aaron Blaise ( useful tips for digital art and animation. Was an animator for Disney. Mostly nature art)
Bobby Chiu ( useful tips and interviews with artist who are in the industry or making a living as artist)
Sinix Design (has some tips on drawing people)
Winged canvas (art school for free on a verity of mediums)
Bob Ross (just a good time, learn how to paint, as well as how too relax when doing art. "there are no mistakes only happy accidents", this channel also provides tips from another artist)
Scott Christian Sava (Inspiration and provides tips and advice)
Pikat (art advice and critiques)
Drawbox (a suggested cheap online art school, made of a community of artist)
Skillshare (A cheap learning site that has art classes ranging from traditional to digital. As well as Animation and tutorials on art programs. All under one price, in the USA it's around $34 a month)
Human anatomy for artist (not a video or teacher but the site is full of awesome refs to practice and get better at anatomy)
Second part BOOKS, I have collected some books that have helped me and might help others.
📚Here is my list:
The "how to draw manga" series produced by Graphic-sha. These are for manga artist but they give great advice and information.
"Creating characters with personality" by Tom Bancroft. A great book that can help not just people who draw cartoons but also realistic ones. As it helps you with facial ques and how to make a character interesting.
"Albinus on anatomy" by Robert Beverly Hale and Terence Coyle. Great book to help someone learn basic anatomy.
"Artistic Anatomy" by Dr. Paul Richer and Robert Beverly Hale. A good book if you want to go further in-depth with anatomy.
"Directing the story" by Francis Glebas. A good book if you want to Story board or make comics.
"Animal Anatomy for Artists" by Eliot Goldfinger. A good book for if you want to draw animals or creatures.
"Constructive Anatomy: with almost 500 illustrations" by George B. Bridgman. A great book to help you block out shadows in your figures and see them in a more 3 diamantine way.
"Dynamic Anatomy: Revised and expand" by Burne Hogarth. A book that shows how to block out shapes and easily understand what you are looking out. When it comes to human subjects.
"An Atlas of animal anatomy for artist" by W. Ellenberger and H. Dittrich and H. Baum. This is another good one for people who want to draw animals or creatures.
Etherington Brothers, they make books and have a free blog with art tips.
📝As for Supplies, I recommend starting out cheap, buying Pencils and art paper at dollar tree or 5 below. If you want to go fancy Michaels is always a good place for traditional supplies. They also get in some good sales and discounts. For digital art, I recommend not starting with a screen art drawing tablet as they are usually more expensive.
For the Best art Tablet I recommend either Xp-pen, Bamboo or Huion. Some can range from about 40$ to the thousands.
💻As for art programs here is a list of Free to pay.
Clip Studio paint ( you can choose to pay once or sub and get updates. Galaxy, Windows, macOS, iPad, iPhone, Android, or Chromebook device. )
Procreate ( pay once for $9.99 usd, IPAD & IPHONE ONLY)
Blender (for 3D modules/sculpting, animation and more. Free)
PaintTool SAI (pay but has a 31 day free trail)
Krita (Free)
mypaint (free)
FireAlpaca (free)
Aseprite ($19.99 usd but has a free trail, for pixel art Windows & macOS)
Drawpile (free and for if you want to draw with others)
IbisPaint (free, phone app ONLY)
Medibang (free, IPAD, Android and PC)
NOTE: Some of these can work on almost any computer like Clip and Sai but others will require a bit stronger computer like Blender. Please check their sites for if your computer is compatible.
So do with this information as you will but as you can tell there are ways to learn how to become an artist, without breaking the bank. The only thing that might be stopping YOU from using any of these things, is YOU.
I have made time to learn to draw and many artist have too. Either in-between working two jobs or taking care of your family and a job or regular school and chores. YOU just have to take the time or use some time management, it really doesn't take long to practice for like an hour or less. YOU also don't have to do it every day, just once or three times a week is fine.
Hope this was helpful and have a great day.
"also apologies for any spelling or grammar errors, I have Dyslexia and it makes my brain go XP when it comes to speech or writing"
Boosting this in case any of the programs and books suggested are useful.
All the photos on this tumblr ad the animal photo reference site I run is another resource available for artists to use!
As long as you’re not using AI to create your art, you can reference / trace / draw / recombine / make any sort of art you want, with any of the photos, for free.
There's also MORPHO, a really good book series on anatomy by Michel Lauricella, with very clear explanations and sketches!
And for pose references, there's @adorkastock who shares a ton of them for free, with different models and props, and her website is amazing <3 you can also buy pose packs from her.

reblog to support female characters violently killing people
Look I do. Genuinely. tend to keep most of my hater opinions pretty close to the vest. Because like okay, you liked the thing I think kinda sucked, I don't need to go ringing your doorbell about it. We can agree on that.
But I feel the sleeper-phrase activation in myself whenever I see a take like "um if you didn't like it it's actually because you didn't understand it!!!!" and i have to like. Take a walk around the block before I morph into Ron Swanson.
Dude!!! Henderhop where El is in pain and Dustin is sweet, caring, gently brushes her hair for her, and does her share of the chores whilst she sleeps <3 +when Dustin is sick, El is the exact same amount of concerned and caring, only difference is that she likes to stay in the room whilst he's napping.
Me, checking my walls for hollow spaces: Hey babe! I think this moot might be in our walls.
My partner, sick as fuck: What? What are you talking about?
Me: *shows him my phone*
My partner: *reads this ask where you describe the exact things we've been doing for the past 3 days*
My partner: 🤨 *looking around* are they watching us through the window?
Me: Right?! It feels like it!
(Seriously, you've described our recent routine surprisingly accurately and we both got a little spooked lol)
Anyway I looooove the idea of El staying in the room while Dustin naps 😫 IT'S SO CUTE! Also I'm imagining Dustin in a little cutesy apron walking around the house doing chores just to make her laugh a little when she sees him... El laying on the couch to watch TV cuz it's the only thing she has energy for, and Dustin getting her to lift herself just enough so he can sit, too, and she can lay her head on his lap so they can watch something together...
Both of them making sure the other is resting, well-fed and hydrated (something that Claudia had to teach both of them the first time the other was sick in their care). El trying to make doe eyes at Dustin so he will give her sweets while she's sick, but she's too weak to do even that so she just pouts and Dustin is fighting FOR HIS LIFE to keep her in a healthy diet, so he just negotiates that when she gets better, he'll get her a bunch of sweets, so she has to rest so she can get better quicker. El having to restrain herself from giving a sick Dustin a bunch of meds at once because she wants him to get better faster (she doesn't like seeing him sick and she wants to fix it), so she just keeps the most meticulous schedule possible.
El threatening to kill Dustin's boss for wanting him to come into work while sick lol
Dustin never had trouble looking at El. He loved to watch her use her powers, he loved to witness how badass she could be, he was always happy to see her, and even when she was in pain, he held her hand and kept looking at her, trying to find some way to help.
And when she looked back at him, he always smiled. He was always happy to see her, no matter the circumstances.
However... Something shifted in the past few days. Whenever he looked at El, she was already looking at him. Is it possible that her stare got more intense as they grew up? No, that's not right—she's not staring the way she used to, like a kid that has never been told it's rude to stare. Her eyes are softer now; sadder, maybe. If Dustin didn't know better, he'd say she's... Wistful. But he couldn't tell why she'd look at him like that.
It was puzzling, for sure. And now Dustin didn't know what to do. If he smiled at her when their eyes met, she would look away. Sometimes he'd catch her staring and wave at her, and she would just leave and go do something else. Should he just stop looking?
But Dustin looking at El wasn't the problem, was it? She'd get like that when they talked, too. Sometimes they would be chatting, and she would ask him something, he would answer it and then she'd stare at him in that way again. And when they were together like that, the weight of it would hit that much harder. Specially because El is too honest, at times, so she'd say something... Nice, about Dustin. Really nice. To the point where he'd feel his breath catch, or his face warm up, or his stomach swoop. And then Dustin would be the one to look away, because what the hell is he supposed to do with that? Those feelings are definitely dangerous. And, and, unrequited. El probably doesn't even mean anything by it! She's probably thinking about something else and her eyes just happen to land on Dustin every time. She's probably asking him questions about himself to contrast them to something (someone) else! She can be nice about him, she's probably nice about all her friends!
Dustin is not special. This isn't about him.
Probably. Right?
Image Comics delivers an unmissable collection of 95 comic...
This is genuinely a fantastic deal. $25 for over $900 worth of female-led indie comics from Image, all DRM-free and in cbz, epub, and pdf formats. Some really top tier creatives here—Greg Rucka, Nicola Scott, Jeff Lemire, Kelly Sue Deconnick, Ed Brubaker, Cliff Chiang, and many others! Highlights include Saga, Bitch Planet, Paper Girls, and Pretty Deadly—all complete to what’s been published.
I definitely recommend picking these up if you’re a fan of women in comics!
I’m not seeing this talked about enough, what do you mean Mike calls Jane his friend in the season 5 script?!
Make it make sense!! Well at least Will is canonically his best friend, confirmed multiple times
Ok, think about this: Post-S4 fic where Mike and El are kinda broken up, but no one specifically said anything. Then El grows closer to Dustin since she can understand his grief over Eddie, and they become close friends. Then, after everything is sorted and things go back to normal, everyone leaves for college, except El (who hasn't gotten her GED yet, so she has no way of going anywhere for school) and Mike (who wants to stay with his family a little longer). They are the only ones from their friend group left in Hawkins, and they both miss their friends and their childhood really badly. So, one night, they are talking about how they used to be, which leads into how things used to be between them, and Mike kisses El.
They start seeing each other in secret, because Mike feels like people are gonna judge them (if Nancy finds out, she WILL blab to Jonathan and Robin and Steve, and then Dustin and Will are gonna know, and then they'll tell Max and Lucas) and El doesn't want Hopper to know they've gotten back together because he is going to Hate It™. So it happens, but it's clunky—they only really see each other when they are feeling bad, they only reach out when they need comfort. It doesn't feel right, but they also don't wanna give it up.
El starts feeling insecure about having made a mistake. And she can't talk to Max for advice because Max will pry until she has all the information. But she knows someone who WON'T pry: Dustin. If she's vague enough, he will infer the rest and give her advice anyway. And that's what she needs right now. So she calls him instead.
That starts a series of late-night calls (which are cheaper from midnight to 6am) where El describes something that happened with her "new boyfriend Mitchel" and why she's worried, and Dustin walks her through how the guy is probably thinking and what to do—what HE would rather she did if it was Dustin as her boyfriend. So, El does as instructed and Mike keeps reacting the wrong way. Little by little, El's chest begins to ache; Dustin paints a beautiful picture of what a good relationship feels like, and she can't have it. Mike won't give it to her, and Dustin is miles away.
I need to watch The Princess Bride because I need to write Dustin and El reacting to The Princess Bride and bonding over romantic movies
