lol fuckin give me a movie about the weird awkward period between the gaelic revival and the easter rising where everyone was angry and getting lit and starting Shenanigans
pádraig pearse: started two boarding schools, failed one of them, accidentally got into debt with the other, pissed off half of dublin as the other half of dublin looked on in bewildered amusement, committed sedition 5 times a week, raised a ton of money and troops for the irish volunteers but somehow still was in debt, became a sculptor (?), was obsessed with the táin, went to america and caused a Stir, possibly committed tax fraud, had a subconscious attraction to thomas macdonagh, wrote short stories in irish that everyone hated, didn't know how to dance
harry boland: was a champion hurler and basically had celebrity status (that's all i know about him from this time period)
mick collins: got arrested like four times, started countless bar fights, was obsessed with wolfe tone and the wexford rebellion, was trilingual, lived with his sister who was way more responsible than he was, worked as a postman by day and a freelance accountant by night, had three girlfriends all at the same time, was constantly getting made fun of for his cork accent, somehow knew every rich person in dublin
joseph plunkett: was a gremlin causing all kinds of delightful chaos, gave poetry readings every week, fucked with pádraig pearse for his own amusement, gradually inexorably fell in love with grace gifford, went absolutely nuts for w.b. yeats, wore capes and rings and a decorative women's hat and carried a silver-handled cane a la oscar wilde, bought everyone drinks because he was a rich boy, got mick collins a job because he felt bad for him, tried to play hurling and failed miserably
and those are just the people who immediately come to mind, there was so much bullshit happening in this time period i LOVE IT
