Me: Oh, a piece of media I'm currently watching mentioned or described a character getting sexually assaulted. Wow, I handle that so well! Hearts not beating too fast or anything! I didn’t get affected at all! :)
My brain for the rest of the day after watching said media: Hey, why don't we think about our rape? Done?. Okay now, let's do that again, but in detail. We are now obsessed with rape. That's all that exists, and that's all that matters. Hey, now let's start the floaty bubble feeling aaaaand headache too, yesss, perfect 🥰
I've always felt this sense of wrongness or maybe a feeling of terrible dread ever since I was little.
Now that I can identify "reasons" for why. I'd thought that it would help with it, but lately, it feels like there's just intensified. And I can't rationalize with the feeling because it happened. I realize that if it's happened before, many times with multiple different people, it's bound to happen again.
I feel like there will never be a resolution to this, and I'm so tired.
It was easier when I half repressed the memories and half convinced myself what I did remember was a dream or made up. Then I could at least scold my body for freaking out because it was for "No reason." In that scenario theres nothing to focus on, sure you feel terrible and scared but thats just my fucked up brainnand body right? it didn't really make the symptoms go away or help at all, but it was easier to bear in ways I couldn't explain.
Not i know there's a reason, and I'll never be the same, though I guess I never was to begin with. I just didn't know it.
"The body keeps track" yeah well can the bitch stop running.
There's just something so tantalizing about the feeling of self-harm.
I'm sure there are many books and articles on the psychology of it and why it's addicting.
But to me it feels like I can all my frustration and offness I'm a wound. Watch it bleed out of me AND bonus heal the wound after like I'm taking care of myself. and that terrible feeling.
Idk it always has an almost sedative effect on me. And with my physical and mental problems leaving me with near constant tachycardia and dread, I can't grudge the habit even though I objectively know i should.
im gonna put the actual meat of the post in a reblog so i can properly tag it, hold up
if you are struggling rn:
ASCA (Adult Survivors of Child Abuse) provides group meetings for adult victims both in-person and online, along with their own list of resources for child abuse victims
HAVOCA (Help for Adult Victims of Child Abuse) is a similar organization with a forum for survivors, support groups for victims, and resources to find a therapist
stop the silence is a department of the institute on violence, abuse, and trauma providing specialized programs related to CSA. they help fund training for professionals and trauma therapy. they take donations to help further their work.
psychology today has an online database of therapists, psychiatrists, and support groups within the US. you are able to filter by treatment modalities, what they specialize in, what insurance they take, etc.
RAINN has a phone, text, whatsapp, and online hotline for victims of rape, incest, and abuse. services are available in english and spanish.
FORGE has a free PDF of resources for trans victims of sexual violence
take it down is a service offered by the national center for missing and exploited children that helps victims of CSEM take down sexually explicit content of themselves produced before they were 18. stop NCII is a similar resource for adults.
the statute of limitations tracker is a free resource for CSA victims within the US who are seeking legal or civil help for their abuse
I often feel less disturbed by what my uncle did to me, not because it wasn't abuse but because it didn't go as far as it did with my cousin.
And while I mostly now consider his behavior as sexual abuse or at least grooming behavior (being so touchy feely to the point i had to constantly swat him off, teaching me to mouth at his face in a very sensual way when it was just us, always insisting I sit on his lap, and the boners I swear I felt. And always making me feel like our bond is so so special and unique. ..which felt great than, but now I can't help but question it too)
So, unlike the rape and assault from my cousin, my uncle actually got caught.
And of course, I'm glad he did because things were certainly escalating. I still doubt myself.
Yet.
I'll never forget that day he started towering and crowding me on my bed only to practically fly off when he heard my mother's footsteps. I'll was groomed, but I felt wrong footed. it was the first time that it clicked that something was wrong that this goes beyond familial affection. Why was he jumping off me if it was normal? It's not like I had any clue of his intentions
(I still don't and it keeps me up at night wondering)
in that moment because I was alone with him in my room with nothing but a cheap moo-moo dress. No bra or underwear because he came over unexpectedly,
(He'd do this often. At that time, he lived in the same neighborhood and was less than a minute walk away. Our father rarely lived with me, my mother and sisters, it was an all girls house. So there wasn't much need for in-house modesty)
I didn't have time to get dressed. And he was in my room, I don't even remember what we were talking about, and he just started tickling me. I wasn't having fun (because I was undersressed and would rather have clothes on..and i was 16 and didn't want to be fucking tickled 🙄). But I laughed anyway, even though I was nervous.
I tried to subtly (and playfully) push him off. But he resisted and kept going until footsteps.
That got him to get off.
He practally leaped off me as if I was suddenly fire.
And I stood between my uncle and mother conversing all totally normal, extremely confused.
To this day, he denies any ill intent. Insisting it was a misunderstanding of all of it. That He just tried to fill the role that our lame ass father failed to. But if so, why act so shady? Why only behave a certain way when no one is around. Why switch gears and suddenly remember personal space and boundaries when there's company?
One hard part of healing for some that isn't talked about a lot is that healing might "take away" something.
For a lot of trauma survivors, it can be incredibly hard to believe that what happened to you was “bad enough.” Especially if you were minimized, doubted, or taught to downplay your own pain. For a long time, the only proof you may have had that it really was that bad is the fact that you’re still suffering.
Your symptoms become evidence. Your panic, your numbness, your fear, your hypervigilance. They are the only tangible thing saying, this hurt me.
So when healing starts, it can feel terrifying. Because healing can feel like erasing the proof. Like letting go of the only thing that ever validated your experience. If you’re doing better, does that mean it wasn’t real? That it didn’t matter? That you made it up?
It didn’t. Your trauma doesn’t become less real just because your nervous system gets safer. Healing isn’t a denial of what happened. It’s a response to it.
You don’t need to stay in pain to prove you were hurt.
It is a terrible cycle.
Sometimes, I can't help but purposely trigger myself, which will leave me in a numb dissociative state from hours to days just to assure myself that what happened was wrong and I was affected by it.
Because that's the only proof I have
I just realized that the timelines between me getting raped and SA'D by my older cousin and me getting SA'd and groomed by my uncle make it seem like I was immediately passed to the next, after one was done. Jesus, no wonder I was a mess when I was 16.
I hate when my uncle is like: "you girls are so beautiful! ☺️😊 (referring to me and my little sibs in a way that's supposed be a light compliment)
Like i could fucking infer that with the amount of times I felt your boner while I sitting in your lap because you groomed me into making out with you when i was 10-16. Let's be a little more original, please 🙏 🙄
Honestly I think I would be a little more forgiving about it if I was at least given a apology or some kind of explanation. idk.
to all the victims of csa who have never told anyone. to all the victims of csa who don't remember, clearly or at all. to all the victims of csa who struggle with understanding if it was "bad enough". to all the victims of child on child sa. to all the victims of csa who are still repulsed to sex or even to all physical touch. to all the victims of csa who don't wish to "overcome" their repulsion to sex or physical touch. to all the victims of csa who freeze, who dissociate, who cry and rage easily. i love you i love you i love you. they don't know you. you know you. trust yourself. trust your body. you decide what to do with what happened. you decide how you feel. keep going
Me young: I don't know what that was, it's not happening anymore, and thinking about makes me anxious. I can't believe that happened.
My brain: No, it didn't. You made it up.
Me: I made it up.
Why tf are mental spirals so sneaky sometimes? Sometimes I'll have my csa on my mind and thinking "hm I'm not upset. Maybe it doesn't bother me as much?" But then I keep thinking, and keep thinking. It just keeps poking my mind increasingly without me noticing until I'm near crying and looking for blades. It's so stupid. All of it is stupid
there's some memories that make me automatically question the validation of them. And I don't know if it's because I'm truly misrememring or if I'm still subconsciously defending him in my head with "he wouldn't do that" even though I know he has done that. Multiple times.
I understand from a logical standpoint why, but I seriously hate how much more focus and sympathy there automatically is for the abuser in cocsa discussions. Yes, it usually means a child is acting out bcs they've been abused themselves. But why the fuck is that my problem, because I've been abused by him, his burdens are now mine? I don't want them, I never did.
ohhhh i get it now! theres something wrong with me
