i've been reading through les misérables for the first time, so there's been a lot of character sketching happening as a result!

I promised myself I was going to draw valvert and I ended up doing this instead.

I personally believe that despite every mistake in the casting of the les mis movie, the choice to cast Colm Wilkinson as Bishop Myriel is my favorite thing to ever happen like ever. That is so fucking symbolic and beautiful and the thought of JVJ becoming a bishop and continuing the cycle of salvation in the name of God brings me never-ending joy.

Jealousy - Valvert comic part 1 and 2

(Reposting the first page here too because it's been ages since I first posted it)

I know this comic doesn't have the most satisfying ending ever but this page has been sitting in my finished folder for months and I have no motivation to come up with a third page - it was only ever meant to be a two part thing anyway.

Oh, and the reason Valjean is wearing a blue coat over his shoulders in the second page is because Javert possessively draped his own coat over him because he is feeling jealous. Totally not because the embroidery on his waistcoat was driving me insane lol.

If you are interested, Javert's angry speech without interruptions is below the cut:

"That absolute weasel, thinking he can touch you like that as if you were his to claim! As if his feeble attempts at flirting granted him anything more than a glance from you! No, he does not deserve even that! He is a scoundrel, a vile thief trying to take what isn't his and will never be his! What possessed you to speak with such a man, if you can even call him a man? Nay, he is the scum of the earth, a damned creature that clawed his way here from hell, some villainous incubus sent to take you from me! Who does he think he is? I swear, I could have strangled him for the way he looked at you. He treated you like you were some prize to be won! As if! And to kiss your hand in front of me! Has he no shame? When he can clearly see that we have a far stronger bond, one that was forged in flames, a love born from shared struggle and history! What we have goes further than flimsy physical attraction or lust. I am no poet, but I truly believe you are the other half of my soul, the one person I could never live without. Fate has woven our lives together over the years! Would you throw all that away for some ginger with a moustache? I know that he may be more charming than me, more elegant - hell, even more handsome and I - ....yes?"
