Has it occurred to some anons on this blog that perhaps you’re the reason the RPC seems dead? You show up and police what everyone’s writing, make a headache for admins, demand to be catered to, and then when things don’t go your way, you come to this blog to whine. I’ve seen plenty of you now come onto sites, and here’s a tip - try writing and making connections, instead of backseat moderating. I’m sorry we don’t want to write with the roleplay cop whose entire presence is dedicated to being a pain in the ass.
I could sit here and bitch all damn day about the way some of you play mental illness or disability, or how you treat your trans characters. Things that I have to live with daily, btw. I’ve seen people use psychosis as the laziest copout for “my character is a dangerous predator” or disability as shorthand for “pity me, I’m weak and vulnerable”. Don’t get me started on autism, or how y'all fetishize or handle trans characters. I could vent a lot of rage.
Notably, I don’t, because it’s not that fucking serious, and I can choose not to write in those places/with those people.
You act like you’re doing activism. Activism is watching your friends get thrown in fuckin vans during protests, or getting teargassed. It’s standing up to the fuckin’ Nazis screaming shit at kids in your town. It’s filming the police while they try to intimidate someone. It’s not sitting online, picking villain of the week and having a go at people, or deciding who is the bad guy based on third hand anon accounts with no evidence. That’s bullying. You’re looking for acceptable targets.
Tell me how you’re improving the RPC. Tell me how you’re making a tangible difference in anyone’s lives. Give me actual, genuine reasons. Come off anon, put your face on it. You can say what you want about Rach, but she had the courage to put her fuckin’ face with her words, instead of hiding on anon to defend herself. And she did it in the face of not one, but two communities coming for her, from different angles, all to stand up for what’s right. Any of you wanna try that?
“Oh, Milk’s a bitch, oh Doom’s a flake, oh plz tattler give me tea on this site before I join it” do any of you do ANYTHING for yourselves? Or are you so scared of being seen, you hide in a corner and beg others on anon to tell you the correct path? I wonder why we feel we have to hide on anon, have to hide our faces. Couldn’t be that the bullies of the RPC know their power is in the court of public opinion, and making you scared?
Could it be that the moment you attach your name to anything but the most flaccid, lukewarm takes, you become a target?
Stop pretending you’re cleaning up the RPC and doing any of us a favor with your anon hate campaigns. Congrats! You have single-handedly created the culture you hate, the one that’s killing RP. I come from a site where our name’s on everything we say and do, no hiding. Is there less drama? Marginally. But you know what there is? None of these huge, massive anon campaigns and attacks. You wanna say something there, you say it with your whole chest. You have to become accountable for the words you say, and the things you do.
Accountability, people. That is activism. That is community. That is creating positive change. It is a community where you are allowed to fuck up and learn. Where your growth is encouraged. Where, if I see you writing a disabled person STUPID offensively, I can sit down with you and be like hey, from a disabled person, that’s a super harmful stereotype and here’s why and more importantly, I can accept if they go yeah well fuck off, and just avoid them. I don’t need to spread around that they’re vile trash, because they’re not. Is it hurtful and shitty? Yeah! Do I wanna write with them? No! Do I need to spend the next month of my life creating a smear campaign? No!
Community involves accepting people you don’t like. It involves actually doing the work and talking to people instead of gossiping. Okay, Doom’s a flake. Anyone ever talked to him about why? Maybe the dude’s got anxiety, maybe he gets muse issues. Maybe people avoid him because of rumor blogs like this, so he can’t get scenes. You don’t have to write with the dude, but you don’t have to assume the worst, either. You can’t actually have a Roleplay Community unless you accept it’s a community, and that comes with people you might not vibe with. You can’t have a friendly, safe community if you just come here to make fun of folks.
If you want a better community, you need to act better. You need to be the change. You need to opt out of the drama, and stop coming to places like Tattler. I’m not sure I vibe with Tats sometimes, but they’ve been honest enough to say that when the asks stop coming in, they’ll go away. That should be a wakeup call for the rest of you. Tattler is here because you’re here. They’ve kept this place open because you fuel it. The moment you stop, Tattler does, and the gossip mill stops. If you stop.
Start focusing on writing again. Start making your sites better places to be, by being creative, positive, friendly. Write with who you want to write with, enjoy your stories. Stop looking at someone else’s screens or making headaches for admins. No one’s asking you to overlook genuine threats, people. We all agreed Sasha needed to go - and that includes everyone you anons tried to drag on here. Rach and co weren’t hyping Sasha up, Liminal’s staff weren’t, Bun and IC weren’t, no one was. This community is more than able to band together to get rid of actual predators. Everything else is just interpersonal differences you could just keep to DMs, for fuck’s sake.
We shouldn’t be scared to put our faces to our opinions. And we’re not gonna drive actual bad people out the community or at least efficiently warn about them, if we don’t. You’re going to have to get comfortable with being seen, if you want to participate. You’re going to have to get comfortable with speaking up, if you want change.
