One Happy Shopper!
Custom Order A4 hard cover coptic stitch with watercolour painting cover and watercolour paper pages. Cover painted by Joan Zammit Cutajar.
New blog name
Greetings followers! This is stephanie-s-scicluna. Just an update, I've finally changed my username and blog name to Studio Book.. With the help of a beautiful logo by the talented Jamie. So, this blog will be solely for my handmade books (not that I used to post much of anything else) and I will eventually get round to making another blog for my photographs, videos and other things. Safe x
The first custom order out of Studio Book! Had never seen this binding before, started as an experiment a while ago and worked out great. I shall coin it Steph Binding! ha!
A4 Red leather hard cover with quality sketching paper. bababoom!
Your bookbinding is beautiful! How long have you been doing it, and how did you get started?
oh wow! thank you!! =DI only started in March.Basically I'm a photographer really, and whilst at uni i wanted my final project to be presented as a book.. and when it comes to my work I like to do everything myself.. so i decided to learn to bookbind. There was this place called the bookRoom which I had never used but thought that the presses were some of the most beautiful pieces of equipment ever! I never really had someone sit down and teach me, most of what i know i learnt from roaming the library and closely inspecting random books which i thought look nice. An online video tutorial or two and lots and lots of practice. Before I knew it I was interning at the bookRoom and making a book a day! So initially I wanted to learn for that specific project, but its grown into quite a hobby. =D
Some copies of the Lite Edition of my book 'Sitotaw' hot off the press. They're going to be featured at the London Art Book Fair at the Whitechapel Gallery.
Look out for the talk CODE X: Paper Pixel and Beyond (27thSep) which will feature the lovely Emmanuelle Waeckerle. She is the director of the bookRoom, which is where I learnt everything I know about making books whilst interning there. These are smaller, paperback editions of the bigger one, which at the moment is still a unique copy. This photo book illustrates the story of a young boy returning to his home land, volunteering at the orphanage from which he was adopted when he was 5, and searching for long lost remaining relatives in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. You could check out some of the pictures from the book here.
I've never been too much of a fan of coptics. I'm not too great at them and find the whole process of making them rather tedious compared to other binding methods. Nonetheless, I wanna get better at it.
Collection of watercolour hardbacks so far. Recycled from discarded paintings by Ma. ..She dosnt know I do this.
