The Day of Qarr (11th of Dhul Hijjah) Do not leave the sanctuary of dua'a, for before us lies a great day - the Day of Qarr, the second greatest day of this world, on which no prayer is rejected!

It is the second most virtuous day in the world after the Day of Nahr (Sacrifice), followed by three revered days during which dua'a are also not rejected.

The prophet said: "The greatest day in the sight of Allah is the Day of Nahr (10th of Dhul Hijjah) and then the Day of Qarr (11th of Dhul Hijjah)." [ Abu Dawood and An-Nasa'i, graded saheeh by Al-Albani]

Another intensivism journey.

It is a blessing to know what to do and it is a blessing not to know what to do.

Intensive care isn't only intense on the patient's health, it is just as impactful on the doctor's heart and soul.

When the patient is in distress, there is no time to process any other thought than "what should I do?". It is too strong on the doctor's heart and mind that it becomes painfully numbing, it is like a sudden emotional cardiac arrest, that only the doctor becomes aware of when he's done with the patient. Suddenly all the accumulated horrors start circulating back in his blood causing a disturbing discomfort, but oh well, no time to deal with that too...

This feeling is a hundred times worse when your patient is someone you love, and it is even doubled when you have to deal with that in a place with minimal resources, and a hell of a chaos around.

I'm glad that, unlike my grandmother who couldn't make it two years ago, my grandpa was strong enough to pull through this severe sepsis.

Now I only want one thing in life: not to witness this ever ever ever again.

So, I hope that my journey with intensive care is really over. From now on, I only want intensive peace, intensive love and intensive joy.

A girl's four years chronicle: year 02 | who's counting?

Hello,

No, I did not quit this challenge. I disappeared before the first-year residency exam because I was overwhelmed. The pressure and the difficulty of the lessons were too heavy on my heart to find a way to romanticize the process of studying. Even though this is the core reason why we, as studyblr users, like to share our experiences here, at that time it just felt suffocating.

Anyway, the good news is that I passed the exam and I’m officially a second-year ICU resident — alhamdulillah.

This second year has been very different for many reasons:

I’m more familiar with the place and the people at work, so I’m not wasting as much energy trying to adjust. I’ve also been able to explore new places and plan breaks more often, so I feel like I’ve had more room to breathe this year.

I have more responsibilities now, both during the day and on night shifts, I have to manage calls on my own.

So all in all, the second year is going well. The only downside is that I don’t feel like I’m learning as much as I’d like, but let’s blame that on my procrastination. Hopefully, I’ll get back on track here soon.

We welcomed 8 new residents, and I’m trying to make their experience a little lighter by giving advice and teaching when I can. Some of them have become really close to my heart.

To end, I’d like to say: nothing helps a seeker of knowledge more than discipline. Managing a balanced life is the key to fulfilling your dreams.

I enjoyed studying it, it's one of my favourite subjects in medicine.

I also started watching this beautiful Iranian TV show. It's called Shahrazad and I'm already in love with the characters <3

So I decided to get back to my old studying habits like using the pomodoro technique. It helped! In the morning I used 50/10 cycles and in the afternoon I noticed that I couldn't focus enough so I redused the cycles to 25/5.

I eventually fell asleep early, not because of the shakhshoukha, but because the last lesson I studied was hella boring.

Sorry to break it to you but you literally have to face your fears and slaughter them. Otherwise you will live a small life that you do not want. You literally have to view your biggest fears and attack them head on. You have to fall into the abyss to find your way out. The easy path does not exist. There is no get out of jail free card. You have to allow yourself to die a spiritual death over and over again in order to reinvent yourself into the person you are actually supposed to be. And you have to be painfully honest with yourself and the people around you. It’s horrible but it’s truly the only way.

Today I went out with my mother and I spent the rest of the day playing with Toota.

I also finished pharmacology and I'm planning to start the digestif system+nutrition tomorrow inshallah.

A girl's four years chronicle: days 263-267 | year 01

So this week I:

- Had fun during my last nightshift for this month

- Did some paperwork for my sister

- Had a nice long walk alone downtown

- Went to a hair salon

- Went back home

- Studied

Took me until about halfway through college before I realized “study” means “play with the material in a variety of ways until you understand it” and not just “read the assigned chapters and do the homework” and I think that probably should have been discussed at some point prior to that.
