oil pastel portrait study, reffing one of tru ref's stock, done in my 11 x 14" Robert Bateman sketchbook on a page I primed with golden brand pastel ground. I used the thin layers approach to build up complex colour and soft transitions, and while the drawing was still slippery, i feel like i proved to myself that i can do some real anatomical studying with this method, and like the results!

the texture that i got from how i applied the ground really worked for me here! I'm gonna give it a gloss varnish and then they should really pop!
