It feels like that sometimes
Hey, I'm Thalia. I'm really uncomfortable to write this post, but um, I got a job recently but I don't get enough money to pay my bills and meds, and my mother is currently unemployed so I'm all alone to deal with the bills, rent and food.
Anyway, I'm a Type 1 Diabetic, so I'm insulin-dependent. I need daily doses of insulin. This has never happened before, but I'm running out of insulin. I only have 35 units left, I use around 18 units everyday, and my payday is really far, and I won't be able to last until then. Anyway, if you any of you can help me, please. I will be grateful.
I don't know how to use that paypal app, so here's my ko-fi:
https://ko-fi.com/nataliamaciel
If anyone can help me, please. I can't survive without my medication.
Diabetes burnout still happens when you have life saving technology. Because technology is not a cure.
They've done all this shit to make taking insulin & knowing your blood sugar easier, but they still don't know how to hack motivation. And that's what is missing from Healthcare.
There's still so much motivation, attention and engery needed to keep yourself feeling good. Not just alive.
Telling me continuously about what I'm not doing vs. What I should be doing isn't doing anything anymore.

Things I tell people to say Iâm low instead of saying it:
Iâm dying. Let me eat some carbs real quick.
Impending doom. Iâm gonna have to eat something.
I need the antidote to my oncoming death
foOd? Iâm literally dying. Not sarcastic at all! So gimme!
Salad? No. That wouldnât fix my oncoming death
Things I say instead of saying Iâm diabetic outright:
One organ is gone. Itâs only a matter of time until the rest follow.
My beta cells gave up the fight
My immune system is an overachiever. I am too.
Iâm gonna to stab myself real quickâŠ
Stab time!
Itâs stab day. (Talking about pump/ CGM sites)
Gotta go squeeze some blood out of my finger real quick.
~~~
Iâm on mobile so some stuff may be formatted weird
that terrible moment when you have a high blood sugar and are super hungry at the same time, so you have to wait for your blood sugar to come down for hours in a barely-energized state
TRYING TO BE HEALTHY WHILE CONSTANTLY HAVING TO TREAT YOUR LOWS IS A WHOLE OTHER LEVEL OF DIFFICULT
I WOULD PAY TEN TIMES AS MUCH FOR CHOCOLATE IF IT MEANT REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF SLAVES IN THE WORLD? HOW IS THIS ANY KIND OF PROBLEM.Â
good news, you can! the companyâs called Tonyâs Chocolonely and their entire purpose is to make slave-free chocolate and reform the chocolate industry.
Whole Foods carries it. If you donât want to support an Amazon-owned company, World Market carries it. You can also buy it directly from the company.Â
Itâs the best chocolate Iâve ever had and itâs 100% slave free. Tonyâs Chocolonely works really hard to push for transparency within the chocolate industry and actually has and is following an action plan to eliminate slavery within cocoa production. Theyâre good people who make good chocolate.
today i learned that according to the New York Post, âForty-two percent of women have experienced period-shaming, with one in five being made to have these feelings because of comments made by a male friend.â (x)
i cant believe this article so i clicked it and was shocked. i mean i have been period-shamed myself but i didnt think A LOT OF PEOPLE can relate to that. i am honestly mad and baffled at the same time.
more reasons why you should get reusable menstrual pads
more comfortable that it feels like you have no pad on
has cute patterns to make YOU feel excited with your period
display it in your bathroom and feel empowered that youâre using a chemical-free and eco-friendly period product
save the earth- disposable pads can take up to 500 years to decompose
discreet to be put in the bag or to bring to the bathroom though WHO CARES? let people see it and educate and empower other period users to switch and be open about their cycle!
before switching to reusable, ive always felt scared to talk about my period. i didnt want to tell someone i get skin rashes or major discomfort because i thought its tmi but hey, its NOT! if people can openly talk about sex, we should be able to openly talk about our cycle that involuntarily occurs monthly! share your thoughts and ask questions about your cycle! i promise you it will help your monthly period better knowing that youâre not alone in this!
Good information and boost for everyone.
Reusable period pads are the best! No rashes, so comfortable and available in so many designs! Plus you support an independent artist. Check them out!
Itâs about time I talked about this too, for the sake of my Diabetic community out there.
Abled-bodied people on twitter and Facebook are using Continuous Glucose Monitors for weight loss programs. Using a device for a disability for their own beauty and âhealthy and fit!!1â purposes.
CGMs, as theyâre called more commonly, were specifically made for Diabetics. And only for Diabetics. Itâs to help make our lives just a little bit easier with the chronic condition weâre stuck with.
CGMs were NOT made for able bodied people to sit there and use it for their weight loss programs. They donât even bother to to any tests beforehand to make sure someone can use the damn things right. Nor did these groups consult doctors about the risks.
These groups need to be stopped. They need to be reported for malpractice and harm to the general public. Theyâre fucking ableist assholes who are doing harm to the Diabetic community and the general public and I will not stand for that.
If any info Iâve presented here is wrong, please correct me in a reblog.
YALL NEED TO REBLOG THIS POST AND SPREAD THIS. BUT ABLE-BODIED FOLKS IF I SEE YOU CLOWNING ON THIS POST ITS ON SIGHT. /gen
If I can add,
Using a CGM when you are not diabetic (or pre-diabetic, if advised by a doctor) will do nothing to benefit your health. It is a complete scam.
Diabetics use CGMs because we have to regulate our blood sugar/glucose (BG) with insulin, if our BG goes up, we need to know so we can bring it down with medication. If an able-bodied personâs BG goes up, it will go right back down because their bodies can self-regulate. If youâre really worried about your blood glucose levels, talk to a doctor. Getting a CGM will not help you, especially if youâre taking advice from Levels.
Additionally, like many fads that come out of âfitnessâ and âhealthâ communities, this can be really fucking bad for people with eating disorders. Carb counting is already bad enough, if someone is constantly seeing a little line go up every time they eat a bagel, they might stop eating that bagel, and then any other foods that make that line go up because they have been mislead into thinking that their blood sugar being 120 mg/dL for a few hours is going to give them diabetes (it wonât). If youâre familiar with EDs you probably know how quickly those kinds of ideas and habits can turn into something extremely unhealthy.
Able-bodied people: your blood sugar going up is Not A Bad Thing. Itâs completely normal, and it will go back down once your body processes the glucose (and, reminder: you need glucose to live).
Please donât support Levels or any other scammers that use medical equipment made for disabled people to make you feel bad about your health.
tl;dr: CGMs are not only useless for able-bodied people, they may actually do more harm than good (for example, encouraging disordered eating). You will not get diabetes from your blood sugar rising and falling a bit throughout the day. If youâre concerned about diabetes risk, see a doctor, donât buy from Levels.
Yeah the margin of error on these devices is pretty high but if you have the kind of swings that diabetics have, and if your primary goal is just to keep yourself from dying in your sleep, a margin of error and a risk of an eating disorder is not that big a deal. For able-bodied people the margin of error means but the data that they receive is largely useless and then of course theyâre risking at the very least orthorexia and possibly worse.
Iâve been talking to a lot of their users about that as well. That the little wiggle in their line doesnât really mean anything and that that company trying to ascribe meaning to it is largely manipulation imo.
I posted this elsewhere but this is the post thatâs getting the most attention so I wanted to add that I found these graphs on Twitter and you can see that both the x and y-axis have been manipulated to make normal glucose responses look wild and dangerous.
Sorry to those that are seeing this twice but it seems really important and this seems like the post I should have put it on.
The ableds are being stupid on Twitter again
The rich are getting more rich tho
his name was Josh Wilkerson and itâs important to point out that he died while taking Reli-On, the common âWalmart Insulinâ you see people constantly pushing as a cheaper alternative.
so if you ever see people suggesting this, or god forbid you feel like doing it yourself, i want you to look up this story and remember Josh Wilkerson, and realize that the solution HAS to be bigger and more systemic than that
Disabled person: âI got a new wheelchair! Woot!â
Another disabled person: âYASS! Freedom!!!â
Abled person: âThat just makes me so sad.â
Ableds keep your soggy ass pity and ableist bullshit to yourselves challenge.
Me:Â âI got new glasses, finally! No more constant headaches and I can SEE!â
Abled: âSweet frames, I like them!âÂ
Also me: âI got a new cane and put sparkly tape on it! It really helps my balance and eases my back pain when I have to stand for prolonged periods. Plus sparkly!âÂ
Abled: âOh gosh oh no Iâm so sorry for you, oh dear how tragic!âÂ
This is how some people acted when I tried out some finger braces for my arthritis and it was so annoying lol
A man stopped me in Sainsbury's to tell me he'd rather be dead than use a wheelchair
Like buddy
I'll be happy to run you over
@kipplekipple hshsgsgs WHY do people think anyone needs to hear their input?
But also yes. I made the mistake of asking in a cross stitch group if anyone had any advice for how to adapt my practise to make my essential tremor less of a worry.
In the cross stitch group people were like âomf Iâm so sorry thatâs so sad youâre so young to have thatâ
In the disability group people were like âhere are practical solutions but also I wanna see a cross stitch piece where you just put the stitch where your tremor puts itâ
And the difference shocked me more than it should have
