“The stars are forth, the moon above the tops Of the snow-shining mountains. Beautiful! I linger yet with Nature, for the night Hath been to me a more familiar face Than that of man; and in her starry shade Of dim and solitary loveliness, I learn’d the language of another world.”
— George Gordon Byron, Manfred, 1817.
Pierre-Auguste Renoir - Roses in a Vase
A path invisible yields not to those with closed eyes. Yet those who walk in the pace of others’ footsteps, cannot bear witness the patina of what is true or real. We are all unique to our own experiences and understanding.
Translation can be wholly specific to the person, idea, or environment—creating a wide range of ideological variation. But nothing can be wholly specific or indefinite. There are things called white noise, serendipitous sequence of events, and the purely chaotic system our world is.
So instead of taking a drive on the wild side, walk in your fellow man’s shoes. Walk a hundred or even a million moons to scour a journey—a journey that no one will fully comprehend or authentically travel. But at least you can say you’ve lovingly tried, nonetheless.
