in which you're first year in university and your intent is to focus on your studies; everything is going as planned until you have to do a project with Bokuto Koutarou

The lecture has already started. The professor hasn't stopped talking for fifteen minutes. Everyone were focused on him completely engrossed in the material.
You were in the first row right in front of the professor. It was your first year as a university student. It was a big deal for you, moving away, starting a new life, being independent and relying on yourself. You liked that but you knew you had to be very responsible and you decided to focus on your studies and not let yourself get carried away from your goals. This meant no parties, no more lazy afternoons and especially no boyfriends. This seemed like a perfect plan for you.
The professor's voice was suddenly interrupted by a loud noise. The door opened and everyone in the lecture hall turned their eyes on the person, causing all the chaos.
'Hey hey hey! Good morning, everyone! Good morning, professor! Sorry I'm late again.' said the guy who was constantly late for lectures.
You made a little noise out of annoyance. It was Bokuto Koutarou. You didn't really like him. Why? He was never ready for projects, never on time, always unnecessary loud and too cheerful for your taste. You could list way too many reasons of why you didn't enjoy his company. To be honest you only thought you didn't like him. Actually you wanted to be like him. Deep inside you admired him. Yes he wasn't the most responsible one but he had a way with people, which you were kinda envious of since you still hadn't made any friends. Bokuto was very confident and even if he said something wrong he didn't mind, you on the other hand had no courage to even raise your hand because you were scared of saying something that might not be right. To sum up Bokuto was everything you weren't.
'Bokuto... again? What happened this time?' asked the professor.
'I'm really sorry I stayed up late last night and couldn't wake up on time this morning.' answered the boy.
'Volleyball practice I assume?'
'Correct!'
'Okay but please try to be on time from now on.'
'Yessir!' cheerfully said Bokuto and since the only avaliable places were on the first row he sat next to you.
'Hi!' he said to you.
'Oh...hello.' you suddenly felt like it was getting hotter in the hall.
'Okay everyone I have an announcement to make.' declared the professor 'Your next task is a project and you have to work in pairs. The deadline is the last week of the semester which means you have one month. Choose your partner and tell me the groups till tomorrow. Goodbye, have a nice day!'
The professor left the hall. You started panicking as soon as he mentioned 'work in pairs'. You hated working in groups and on top of that you had no one to ask to be with you. You were deep in your thoughts when Bokuto asked:
'Hey, do you perhaps want to work with me on the project?' he smiled.
'Um...' you didn't really like the idea but you had no other option '... okay fine.'
'Cool! I'm Bokuto Koutarou by the way. Nice to meet you!'
'I'm Y/N.'
'Oh so it's Y/N! I've been wondering for some time. Your name is pretty!'
He said that so casually that it left you speechless. Your cheeks became pink and it got even hotter. Before you could even say something he asked you:
'So when are we starting with the project?'
'What about tomorrow?'
'Tomorrow!?' Bokuto was shocked. He's not the type of person who does school work immediately.
'Yes, tomorrow. Do you have a problem if we study in the library?
'Nope, not at all.'
'Okay tomorrow at 3pm in front of the library.'
'I'll be there, Y/N!'

Two hours had passed and Bokuto was nowhere to be seen. You ended up studying by yourself. The library was closing so you decided to head home. At that moment you saw Bokuto running to you.
'Y/N! I'm sorry I'm late! But I'm here now so let's study.'
'Okay but the library is closed.'
'Oh...I guess I was really late then.' he let out an awkward laugh.
You sighed and decided to act a little cold 'Look, I know you're not exactly that type of person but I would really appreciate it if you take this project seriously. I need to ace this subject.'
'Are you always this strict to yourself?' Bokuto was curious.
'What is that supposed to mean?'
'Well... don't you ever have fun? Like I know this is important to you but don't you go out with friends sometimes? Like... on a movie or... I don’t know?'
'I-...' you had hard time finishing you sentence 'I don't have any friends...'
'Huh?' he looked at you with his big curious eyes.
You felt embarrassed. You were ready for him to make fun of you.
'This is kinda good you know?'
'How come?'
'Because I can be your first friend!'
You were absolutely surprised and astonished by the way he talks so casually and reacts to things. Every time he said something you could feel the sincerity. You felt warm knowing there's at least one person who wanted to be your friend despite you completely isolating yourself from others.

It was the next day. You were on your way to the library where you were supposed to meet Bokuto for a study session. You couldn't stop thinking about what he said to you the previous day. He really was sweet but you decided to ignore any feelings and to focus only on the project.
'Hey hey hey!'
'Bokuto..?'
'Y/N! I'm on time as promised! Am I the best partner you've ever had or what?' he was so cheerful almost childlike and you couldn't help but chuckle a little.
'How did you manage to come on time?' you asked.
'Well... this is very important to you, right? So since we are friends it means that it is important to me as well.' Bokuto explained.
Again... this sincerity. Everything he's said to you made you genuinely happy.

Two weeks have passed since you and Bokuto started working on the project. You were having lunch at the cafeteria when you got a message from your new friend.
B: [Hey, Y/N! I have an important match soon and I have to stay at practice a bit longer.]
Y/N: [When will you be ready? You know the library closes at 5pm.]
B: [Do you mind coming to the gym? We can study here. I have the keys.You can watch the practice if you want to... ']
Y/N: [Okay, I'll be there when I'm ready.]
Your last lecture for the day was over and you went straight to the gym. There was no chance for you to not find it since the boys shouting and volleyballs bouncing left and right could be heard from miles away.
You opened the door and the sight of Bokuto jumping and spiking the ball as hard as he could breaking the blocks was right in front of your eyes. You realised that you knew nothing about Bokuto. The only Bokuto you knew was the one from lectures. Besides that you had no idea what is he like.
'Y/N you came! You really wanted to see me play, huh?' Bokuto said.
'Uhm... I just... I was curious.'
The boy left you alone since the coach scolded him for talking to you. You planned on studying while your project partner was playing but you found it hard to not look at Bokuto. You were amazed by his skills, especially when someone referred to him as ace. You had no idea he was the ace of the team. You felt guilty for misjudging Bokuto. You had no right to do that considering the fact that you knew almost nothing about him. He was actually very responsible, reliable, dedicated, hard-working and never gived up on anything.
The practice was finally over and both of you and Bokuto realised that you've been watching him the whole time.
'Y/N if you want to see me more on court come to our match!' he suggested.
You blushed. Why did you felt embarrassed by this question? Your eyes met and you couldn't say anything. You were standing right in front of him keeping an eye contact and wondering why couldn't you answer him. Then you felt something. It was like electricity going through your whole body. Everything made you blush even more and your whole face was burning.
'I'll take that as a Yes!' said Bokuto and left to change his clothes.
Your study session went well but why did you keep feeling weird? Why was it so hard for you to stay calm and focus? You were wondering the whole time and Bokuto sensed that there was something else on your mind.
'Y/N?' Bokuto cupped your cheeks and felt the heat from your skin 'You're burning! Are you okay?'
This single movement startled you and you panicked.
'Y-yes I'm fine don't worry, Bokuto! Let's stu-'
And before you could finish your sentence he pressed his lips on your forehead.
'Bokuto! What what are you doing?' You felt as if everything was out of control. What were you supposed to do in this situation?
'Just checking if you have temperature. My mother does it every time when I'm sick.'
How was he so calm you wondered. He basically kissed you on the forehead and acted like nothing has happened.
'Hmmm but I don't feel anything... why are you so hot then?'
You looked at him eyes wide open and still couldn't comprehend what just happened.

Days have passed and you felt weirder and weirder around Bokuto. You had a lot of fun on your study dates but every time you saw him or heard his voice it had an effect on you. Every day as soon as you woke up you couldn't wait to study with Bokuto. You always looked around hoping you would see him in the hallways. You were constantly checking your phone in case he sent you a message. Why were you acting that way? This was so not you. Everything cleared when you caught yourself daydreaming during lecture. It wasn't a regular daydream. You were thinking about Bokuto, his voice, his laugh, his silly jokes and that particular kiss. Then it hit you.
You liked Bokuto Koutarou.
With every day passing by you found it harder to concentrate especially when both of you were working on the project. Good thing is that you finished it on time. The week before the due date you barely saw Bokuto. The reason was that he spent every minute in the gym spiking, receiving and serving. His important match was on the day when you were supposed to present your work in front of the auditorium. Bokuto reassured you that the match would be before lunchtime so both of you would have enough time to go to the campus and do the presentation. Everything was going just as planned when you received a call from Bokuto.
'Hi, Bokuto! I'm almost ready you haven't started yet right?'
'No, we haven't. But... Y/N...'
'Hmm?'
'They've changed the schedule and our match is going to be exactly when we are supposed to do the presentation.'
'Oh... is there anything we can do?'
'Well I talked to the coach and some of the staff but nothing can be done... I'm sorry Y/N I really tried.'
'I know, don't worry.'
Both of you became silent.
'You know what... I'm going to campus and I'll talk to the professor.'
'Good idea, Y/N!'
'Don't worry and focus on your match, okay?'
You hung up and got on the bus.
It was time for Bokuto’s match. You haven't called since your conversation in the morning and you were nowhere to be seen. Bokuto started worrying. He thought that you decided to present by yourself. This made him a bit sad but he knew how important university is to you and he just hoped that you would do great.
Ten minutes since the start of the match and Bokuto was about to serve. His hands were sweaty and the nervousness got to him. He looked at the crowd hoping you would be there. And you were. You were waving at him and shouted:
'GO ACE!'
This was it. This was all he needed to stop all the negative thoughts in his head.
The match was over and as soon as the teams greeted each other Bokuto went straight to you and hugged you tight. The two of you were equally surprised by that.
'So you managed to come! When did the professor let us present then?' Bokuto asked.
'Actually... he didn't.' you smiled.
'What? Why? Then what are you doing here?' Bokuto was worried.
'I just really wanted to see you play.'
'What about the subject then?'
'Well... we both failed.'
'Y/N...why didn't you present?'
'And leave my partner? Never! Besides there will be another chances.'
Bokuto tilted his head a little. He was very confused and worried about you.
'Y/N how are you so calm? This was important to you.'
'Well yes but the match is important to you and since we are friends this means it's also important to me!'
Bokuto couldn't believe your words.
'Woah... you've really changed Y/N...'
'Thanks to you!' you giggled.
'Failing classes? I must be a bad influence then.' he said while scratching the back of his head.
'You actually taught me to have fun. You know... you always say to not choose what's easy but what's fun... so...'
'So...?'
'I've had the most fun with you, Bokuto. Therefore I choose you!'
Both of you blushed and couldn’t look at each other for a moment.
'Um... Bokuto?'
'Y-yes!' he looked at you.
'What I really meant to say is that... I like you, Bokuto.'
As soon as you confessed you closed your eyes out of embarrassment. Where did you get the courage to say those stuff? You again started panicking and just when you were thinking of running away you felt Bokuto’s soft lips on your cheek. You froze yet your whole body was burning.
'Not fair, Y/N... I wanted to say it first!'
'Huh?'
'I like you, Y/N.'
He kissed you again but this time on the lips and then hugged you tight.
'Now let's go and celebrate your win and our failure.' you suggested.
'You know... this is actually good.'
'Us failing? Why?'
'Because this means we can spend more time studying together!'
At that exact moment you realised that being in a university can be more pleasant and interesting experience when you allow yourself to have fun.

He left his backpack on his desk, sat down on the chair and started playing one of his games as usual. His days were pretty ordinary - school, lunch, practice, homework, sleep and playing games in between those activities. And this morning was nothing different than any other mornings until…
'Good morning everyone!’
Yes, actually the last couple of months weren’t exactly that ordinary for Kenma. Every day was normal to him until he hears your voice. You were so cheerful and full of life this early in the morning that Kenma couldn’t help but wonder how do you do that. How do you manage to look so pretty every day, to sound so nice and happy, to always be polite and helpful and most importantly how do you manage to still be on his mind.
Kenma was looking right at his game when he heard you. His hair was blocking everything around him but he still managed to peek. You looked beautiful as always. You went straight to you desk which was the one in front of his. When you passed by Kenma he quietly said 'Good morning’ almost impossible for anyone to hear it but you heard it.
'Good morning Kenma-san!’ you smiled at him and went to your place. He immediately blushed and was trying really hard to focus on the game.
School day was nearly over. The only thing left was practice. Everything went fine and couch Nekomata was more than proud of the team.
'Hey Kenma, me and Yaku are going to study at the school library. Do you wanna join us?’ asked Kuroo.
'Yeah… why not. But I’m waiting for the new game to come out so I won’t stay for too long’ said Kenma.
Yaku nodded 'Cool! Kai, Yamamoto you wanna join?’
'Ummm no thanks Yaku-san.’
'I can’t either. I have some work to do at home.’ added Kai.
Everyone said goodbye to each other and Yaku, Kuroo and Kenma headed to the library.
'Hey Kenma’
'Yes Kuroo..’
'Since we’re gonna study together… is there a subject in which you need help? You know me and Yaku are 3rd years.’ said Kuroo while smiling.
'Thank you but I think I’m good for now.’
'Tch…being your senpai is really hard sometimes you know Kenma.’
'Well he’s not like certain someone who lacks everything except science…’ jokingly said Yaku.
'EXCUSE ME-’
Kenma opened the door to the library completely ignoring his two noisy friends when he saw you. You were also there. Kenma gulped and couldn’t take his eyes off of you.
'Oh hi Kenma-san!’ you greeted.
He realised he’s been staring at you for a couple of seconds and tried to look the other way while saying 'Hello’ to you.
The three boys sat on the table next to yours. Kenma could sense your parfume. Suddenly he became nervous.
Yaku saw that and asked 'Kenma? Is everything alright? Do you need anything?’
'More like anyONE?’ added Kuroo.
Both Yaku and Kenma were very confused.
While studying Kenma had hard time concentrating because he always peeked at what you were doing. You were just reading but he couldn’t stop watching you. Suddenly you stood up and left the book you were reading on one of the shelves. Before leaving the library you said goodbye to Kenma which again made him blush and embarrassed because once again you caught him staring at you.
After you left he felt kinda sad but had no idea why. Kuroo was smirking the whole time while watching Kenma observing you.

Kenma and Kuroo headed home and the tall boy was dying of curiosity.
'Hey Kenma’
'Hm what is it?’
'Didn’t you say you had to go home early? Why did you stay so late?’
'I don’t know…no reason.’

Both of them walked for a while in complete silence when Kuroo decided to break it.
'Who was that girl by the way?’
Kenma was a little embarrassed by that question.
'Um… she’s from my class. Why?’
'Just asking… so what’s her name?’

Kenma was thinking about you the whole night. Usually he stayed up late because of a game but this time it was different. He couldn’t sleep because of you. Maybe he did like you. Maybe he wasn’t just nervous around you. He was wondering for the last couple of months why was he acting weird around you but he never thought that he liked you. Yes you are beautiful, smart, witty, cute and friendly but he never imagined he would fall for you. This feeling was completely new for him. He’s very observant and analytical, he’s the brain of Nekoma volleyball team after all, but this thing…his feelings for you made him clueless and confused. He tried his best to stay calm but looking at your back, neck and hair the whole day was nearly impossible for him. It was easier to control the feelings before but now that he knew why he’s like that he couldn’t even stay still.
Throughout the whole day he was playing a game desperately trying to not think about you. Everything was going well until you approached him.
'Is that the new game?’
Kenma’s cheeks got that cute shade of pink as soon as you spoke.

'Of course! I’ve been waiting for it since forever! Are the graphics really that good? Which character are you playing with? Did you unlock the new magic spells?’
You asked Kenma so many questions that he stopped functioning. He was listening to you but he felt so shy that he couldn’t even answer you. Luckily Kuroo was about to pick Kenma and go to have lunch together when he saw the two of you.
'Yo Kenma let’s go! Hey you’re the girl from yesterday!’
You turned around to see one of your classmate’s teammates.
'Hello! I’m Y/N nice to meet you!’
'I’m Kuroo Tetsurou, 3rd year. Nice to meet you too!’
'I’m coming Kuroo.’ said Kenma and rushed to his friend.
'Y/N’ Kuroo called you.
'Yes?’
'Do you wanna come with us? Maybe you can continue with your conversation. Sorry for interrupting it by the way.’ suggested Kuroo and brushed the back of his head.
'Y-yes! If it’s also okay with you Kenma-san.’ you looked at Kenma which made him even more shy.
'He would love to!’ exclaimed Kuroo.
Kuroo was more than happy to see his best friend finally talking to his crush. He felt that being Kenma’s matchmaker is his duty and tried everything he could to make both of you feel comfortable. Kenma was still shy but thanks to his friend he gained some courage and answered all of your questions. He even let you play to show you the new game features.

Two weeks have passed since that day and you felt that Kenma was getting more comfortable around you. He still blushed and was a bit nervous but it really showed that the two of you were getting closer. He even walked you home but Kuroo was always with you. The truth is Kenma wanted Kuroo to be around for emotional support. Little pudding hair struggled with keeping the conversation and at some point actually thought that you enjoyed Kuroo’s company more.
Every day you waited for Kuroo to come so that the three of you could walk home. That day though Kuroo told his friend the last minute that he had to stay at school because one of the teachers wanted to talk with him. He was obviously lying and Kenma sensed that but he couldn’t just leave you so he walked you home. It was the first time for both of you to be just the two of you. It was very awkward in the beginning when you shouted 'One!’ and pointed at a stray cat.
'What?’ Kenma was very confused.
'My dad and I used to count stray cats when I was little… it’s like a little race… I’m sorry I just recalled of that…’ you shyly said.
'Oh one for me as well!’ excitedly announced Kenma.
You thought Kenma would find your idea to break the ice dumb but it actually worked.
The whole way to your home both of you were looking around to find cats and even jokingly argued who found the cat first.
'Kenma-san this kitty looks just like you!’
'How is that Y/N?’
'Look it has your hairstyle!’
The boy looked at the cream coloured little cat with a black spot on its head between the ears.
'I guess it does look a bit like me.’
'Now we know even if you become a cat you’ll still look cute’
This sentence made Kenma’s heart skipba beat. He definitely didn’t expect to hear that.
'Oh we arrived. Thank you for walking me home Kenma-san!’ you smiled and went to open the front door.
'Y/N!’ the boy said loudly which startled you a little.
'Yes?’
'Um…’ Kenma looked extremely nervous. It seemed like he had something important to tell you and yet he could do it. Then he added 'I wanted to say that… um…’ he sighed 'they announced the new dragon game…’
You looked at him a bit confused. He cringed at what he said because that was not the thing he wanted to tell you.
'Oh… really… that’s cool.’
The boy saw you turning away and wanted to stop you. This was probably his only chance to do it so he finally got the courage.
'No! Actually I wanted to tell you something else…’
'Okay… what is it?’ you asked.
Kenma gulped and felt his palms sweating. Then he quietly said 'I l-l-like you…’. It was so quiet that you couldn’t hear him.
'I’m sorry I didn’t catch that.’
'I like you, Y/N’ he said almost shouting.
There were a few seconds of silence, enough for you to feel little butterflies in your stomach.
'I was worried that you may have changed your mind.’ you chuckled.
'Huh?’

You went to him and gave him a little peck on his cheek.
'Then see you on Monday, Kenma-san!’
He stood right in front of you completely speechless.

You found him to be so adorable that you couldn’t help but giggle a little.

Hinata Shouyou
You are such a great couple! Both of you are very enthusiastic and excited about your relationship since the beginning. You don't even feel a pressure to talk because Hinata is talkative enough for both of you. If you feel uncomfortable and anxious around people your boyfriend will come to you and instantly lighten up the mood. He's very bubbly and charismatic that all the attention will be on him.
You value honesty very much and it's good that you're with Hinata because this boy cannot lie to save his life. He's a decoy but in real life it's impossible to him to not say the truth. Besides he sees no point in lying especially to you. He sometimes even says stuff with no intention. That's how you found out that he likes you. This boy is a sunshine. Just looking at him smiling makes your day! Himekawa is a sweetheart and was really shy before you two started dating. He saw you taking the same bus every day and decided to also get in it. Every time he was late because took this exact bus just to talk to you and finally after a couple of weeks he got the courage. Even if you decide to stay at home you always have something to do. Every time you play games together you get bored at some point. When you first met the guys from Nekoma you were terrified. You didn't think they were bad people but you just felt like you should be on guard. You actually decided to be a manager mainly because you wanted to overcome your fears and insecurities and to socialise more.
Kuroo was the first one to approach you (very bad idea). Once Yaku noticed your reaction he stepped in and introduced everyone to you. They all liked you and instantly had the urge to protect you.
You realised that they were very nice and sweet and every single one of them was more than happy for you to be their manager (especially Yamamoto).
Speaking of Yamamoto he would do everything to protect you. If he catches you sneezing he will immediately buy you medicine and bring you tea. He even called Tanaka to tell him that Nekoma has a gorgeous new manager.
Kuroo is very cool. He is like a big brother to you. Once you told him you wanted to make friends but didn't know how to he took this very seriously. He introduces you to many people and invites you to parties. Kuroo knows how to deal with people like you since he has been best friends with Kenma for a very long time.
Kenma really likes you. He can relate to you and you can relate to him. You always have something to talk about. Kuroo likes how chatty you both are when you're with each other. Kenma always invites you during lunch because he doesn't want you to eat alone.
Lev is very awkward and clumsy at times. He somehow manages to scare you even more saying the weirdest things. Thanks to Yaku and Kenma he finally found a way to talk to you without sounding like a creep. He's very gentle and sweet to you. He helps you with your duties as a manager and knows how to make you laugh. Because of him you learnt that first impressions are not always right and you should give others a second chance.
Yaku is very careful around you. He's very sweet and nice and always ready to come for a rescue. He's very good at sensing your mood. If you feel uncomfortable he will immediately notice it. He's almost like a mother to you.
Kai is very calm and always smiling at you. You feel such warmth inside you every time you talk to him. He can easily calm you down if you feel anxious. He knew how to deal with Yaku and Kuroo so being with you isn't very hard for him. He's a natural good boy.
Inuoka is optimistic and energetic. He is your first friend in Nekoma. He is full of energy but not chaotic enough to scare you. You both have a lot of fun together. He helps you come out of you shell and go out more. You like going to cafes together and drink milkshakes. After that you play arcades. Thanks to him you became more relaxed.
Shibayama is as anxious as you are. He had difficulties talking to you in the beginning because he was too afraid he might say something inappropriate. You were actually the one who helped him calm down and take a breath. You are great buddies because you are each other's biggest supporter. You cheer for him when he gets on the court and he cheers for you every time you do something that usually scares you. You both try your best!
Teshiro and Fukunaga are very quiet and collected themselves. Sometimes you won’t even notice them because all you can hear is Lev talking and Kuroo's laughter but you know they're there. They're adorable! Fukunaga even sticks notes here and there for you to let you know that you've done an amazing job!
