Incredibly violent take of mine but I actually don’t think you need to relate to a story in any way to enjoy it. You can enjoy a story even if you can’t point at a character and insert some aspect of your personality or identity into them. In fact I would argue the need for a character like that to be present in every single story you experience is a sign of stunted growth.

I've recently started reading "Men in prison" by Victor Serge that I kinda randomly picked up when searching for a good edition of "Les miserables". Got tempted by the fact it was an anarchist writing about his time in prison and all that.

I gotta say he's got a way with words that is so good but also sometimes he loses me a little lol. Still, I take my sweet time reading, i go out under the sun, and I read and it's so cool. I might have to read more of him, I can't believe I'm only learning about this guy this way.
