Yeah so a lot of posts have been popping up on my dash recently by people who are sad that SOC had an ambiguous ending, and trust me, I see why you're sad, but hey, now you can use your imagination!

For example: Jesper hit big with the stock market while being with Wylan and now he is a Mercher in his own right except he spends every cent he earns into improving the Barrel and Wylan eventually hired a CEO (vetted by Kaz ofc) to handle the Company and becomes a regular rich guy living with his Mom and his boyfriend and Kaz becomes the King of the Barrel and Inej is the Queen of the Seas and Kaz meets with Wesper regularly (they started partnerships together) and Inej comes by every six months for years before she retire with Kaz in a nice house by the countryside where they live happily ever after

op is very correct about the fact that, yeah! you can do whatever with these guys at the end of the book. like theyre toys for you to act out you own ideas with now! fun! amazing!

but, the thing i take issue with is: at the end of the book, it's as if leigh bardugo has finished playing with these character-toys & put them down in bad places. we can all agree (right?) that some of the characters don't have the most satisfying endings but you can't change them with your imagination unless you start ignoring the characters' canon characterizations/just canon in general, imo.

so yea! it's open-ended and it's great but it's just so difficult to make these characters all have better endings with your imagination while staying true to canon/not too ooc haha
