carries around his little leather satchel wherever he goes, its filled with shit, spare papers- pens, inks, viles of various things and little keepsakes from his mama, hes so oblivious to it being so full that when jesper offers to hold it while they are at the market his shoulder immediately aches from the amount of crap wy holds onto
really likes stories and storytelling, and will often indulge in jesper reading out loud to wylan, he's never not liked to read, he just struggles with it
when he and jes decided to adopt, it took wylan over a year to prepare, not just to being a parent, but also to try to quell the fear he had of becoming like jan
keeps every single painting that marya makes, - most of them are of him
starts balding (like jan) when hes in his earlier thirties, but he immediately sees a tailor about it and doesn't let anyone know about it- even jes
absoloutely can't stand it when he overhears the other merchers dismissing and criticising wylan's relationship with jes - and why he would "marry barrel trash" - he doesn't say anything about it to remain proffessional, but when he goes home and complains to jesper about it- seething- jes makes light of it and helps him laugh about it
marya knits scarves for him in all sorts of colours from scrap yarn, and no matter what, he always pulls up to the mercher meeting in his suit and suspenders, with a bright multicoloured scarf wrapped around his neck
has a really thick kerch accent, so he often has to shut up whenever the crows do any form of mission in another country or in disguise because hes immediately caught out for it
used to pretend to be reading around the van eck manor when he was a younger teenager, although when jan would ask him to read out passages, he would end up hurting him when he couldn't read them out
had acne as a child, which jan criticised him for, so he got into chemistry more as a result- he wanted to fix himself, until it eventually went away with ' his studies ' as wylan claimed- when it reality it was just growth and lower stress levels as jan met alys and focused on getting a new heir- when he worked at the tannery, the thick chemicals made his acne return to him which made him feel as if he could never escape his father
when he was actually allowed outside without strict regulations and a padling if he misbehaved, wylan would go outside in the mid morning with marya and he would feed all of the little ducks that would swim across the canal, and as a result marya called him duckling
dyed his hair brown when he worked at the tannery, because bright red hair is far more obvious than brown yet when the colour grew out eventually, jesper fell even harder for wylan
keeps a little sketchbook and tells stories in personal letters through artworks rather than jesper always scribing things out for him
on certain days off he will compose little piano tunes for jesper
although many think that jesper would be the more physically affectionate one, wylan is much more physically affectionate, often hugging onto jesper during the night, and just cuddling
calls jesper very specific petnames - 'jes', 'sweetheart' and 'love' most of all
loves drama and plays because its stories being told without words, he often went out on dates with jesper to see plays
when they had kids, wylan would often take more days working at home from the merchers council just so he could spend time with the baby, often even waking up earlier than usual- although jesper gets up at an ungodly hour
loves cats a lot [ i have a hc that ketterdam has loads of cats ] and will often leave out little scraps of fish and meat with a bowl of water for the strays
uses 'van eck' on all serious matters and legally, but when writing to the other crows, or friends in general, he will sign as 'Wylan Hendriks-Fahey' and it makes his heart flutter whenever jesper says it.
