Did you know that there are so many lougosi moments in Murder Solution arc that are removed in S2?
In fact, most of it are small tidbits that when you notice it, you just know they are made for each other. Here is an example:
In this part, Legosi noticed that Louis is not really comfortable working with Shishigumi. He just puts up a mask and it convinced the lions, but not Legosi.
In the anime, Louis is very confident of his position and working in the ‘dark’ side. In the manga, he’s not this super confident guy, in fact all of it just a mask and his own monologue that he put to convince himself that he is made for The Black Market. Nobody notices how wrong it is other than Legosi. In fact, Ibuki is the one feeding him the reasons why he should stay there, but Legosi knows, and deep down, Louis knows.
These scenes of Legosi and Louis analyzing each others’ body language is ALL OVER murder solution arc. All the way until the finale where Legosi notices Louis crumbling in front of him
The only other character that can do this to Louis is Haru in the first arc. After that every moments like this are done by Legosi.
These moments are what made me believe their feelings for each other is real, and it shows the BALANCE on their relationship unseen in other couples, even Legoharu. That’s what makes them so interesting!
Which made me sad that every single one of these is removed from the anime. No, I don’t believe in time limitation or budget. If they can remove Gouhin’s one-shot, they also can delete Kangaroo’s scene (bet you all don’t remember him) and Sheila-Peach scene.
In fact, these changes impacted this depiction of Lougosi so much, it’s difficult to see them as couple in the anime. Bill said that the relationship that Louis and Legosi had is a kind of the master and their lap dog.
This is wrong in the manga, because EVERY SINGLE DECISIONS Legosi made are under the basis of what he notices from Louis, not from his commands. Legosi trusts what Louis said to him because he realized the jealousy in Louis. Legosi fought the lions and take him as a hostage because he knows Louis isn’t comfortable with them. Legosi ate Louis’ leg because he realizes how much Louis is scared, and believe that eating his foot will make him less scared.
The anime fails to depict this. Instead, the master told him something, and the lap dog believes him. The lap dog sees the master as the star and wants to protect him from bad people. The master COMMANDS him to eat his foot, and the lap dog did.
It’s NOT BALANCED at all.
For me, this is just very disappointing. I know the people who worked behind the anime did their best, but I also know that none of them understands lougosi really well like Paru did, they just animated them at their face value instead of what Paru originally writes, a balanced relationship of two men understanding each other’s problems.
