"I owe you nothing," comes a raspy voice after several minutes of silence, "and you do not command me. You have no power here, Everest of the Farlanders. Or are you of the Avaryx?" The presence laughs, a horrible rasping sound.
"You have no place in this world. Your flame was extinguished the day you died. Yet your soul persisted. You took what does not belong to you. You should have stayed dead."
The Spectator forms beside Everest, sharp claws digging under his jaw.
"It is my duty to watch. Not to interfere. But you piss me off."
"Let me go," Everest hisses. "What the fuck did I do to you?! Why would you go against your code to hurt me?"
Everest tries to scratch back at the Spectator only to be frozen in place, every cell in his body stopped in motion.
"One becomes two becomes nothing if not whole," the Spectator purrs. "You will never bid rid of me. I will haunt your dreams, your nightmares, your every waking thought. I will haunt you until your feeble mind collapses in on itself and you corrupt into something unrecognizable."
"..." Everest does not respond — he can't.
"Pathetic. Your own power yields to me. Go on, Everest. Fight. Struggle. It's the only thing you know how to do." The Spectator laughs again.
Everest winces when the Spectator draws ichor, forcing his body to move away from him.
He gasps for air, looking genuinely terrified.
"I— I don't know who you are. I don't know what I did!"
The Spectator scoffs.
"More like you don't remember. I'd help amend that, but I can't have everything come out so soon! What's the point of a performance if it's cut short by spoilers?!"
"A... performance. That's... That's what this is to you?! A performance?! And why would I remember you?! I've never seen you in my life!"
"You've seen me before. I'll wait for you to figure it out, Sparks."
The Spectator backs up, arms crossed over his chest like he's to be buried before he tips off the roof and vanishes into the shadows of its underside.

The Spectator forms beside Everest, sharp claws digging under his jaw.

He moved to go into his nest.
Everest hesitantly follows, purring louder once in the nest.
Rasine curled up against Everest quickly, trilling softly.
"Can I hug you?" He asked softly.
"Mhm..."
Everest's tail swishes.
Rasine lightly wrapped his arms around Everest, comfortable.

"I love you." Everest nuzzles into Rasine, and starts to drift off before he snaps himself back into awareness.

Rasine smiled back, trilling softly again.
"I won't ever leave you. I'm yours as long as you'll have me."
"I love you infinitely more than a mortal mind can comprehend."
"Its a good thing I am not mortal, then, isn't it?" He asked lightly.

"Yeah.. it is. I'm so glad you are, too.

"Unless felled in battle, yes."
"I won't let you be felled in battle, then," they said, a hint of desperate insistence in his voice.

Everest purrs a little quieter, but he's still purring.
Rasine trilled softly in response, content and pleased.

"I'm afraid I have to leech your warmth away," Everest mumbles.
"I don't mind." He muttered back, growing slightly warmer.
