i've left the lights on upstairs

poem by psyche i'm so tired. but i can't sleep. so i've come down here and maybe this will get rid of that feeling. you know. the one we don't have words for. not in this language, at least. i'm so tired, but i can't sleep. i hate my body right now. well, it's either dysphoria or mild nausea. i was craving a song, but i found another on my playlist that i like. so i'm listening to that one instead. oh, there it is. it's playing now. and as i listen, and as i type, and as the sound of the keyboard fills my head, the music playing in the background, checking my "activity" button for a quick, short-lived dopamine hit- oh look, there's three- i realize, slowly, that my green walls, all covered with posters and a calendar, and a painting of an eye the suit of hearts, the ace, the other three i never started, the things i drew when i was young, my theatre things, all illuminated by the harsh white, florescent lights, and illuminated by my dog nightlight (so i can see), set to dark blue, and the cube one with the nail-polish flowers maroon and blue, black nail polish on the corner, it's a yellowish-white shade now, on the lowest, dimmest setting, playing rain sounds, that, if i listen hard enough, i can hear from down here. my green walls, illuminated by the dull stick-on stars (we made orion), moon, and planets (and pluto) i stuck on my ceiling with my father back when i was young and everything made sense, and if it didn't, that was fine. and i realize now, sitting here, with bad posture, and the music off, my dog sleeping in the next room, all tucked in, his three beds all stacked up, i realize that i've left the lights on upstairs.

my preferred pronouns depend on the day or situation... but i use she/her and he/him separately, or sometimes interchangeably. currently i think i'm going by he/him right now...

being queer is a very mixed experience for me. romantically, i absolutely love that i am able to feel attraction towards the beauty of every gender (albeit, sometimes at different times), however, for sexual and gender orientations, it can make me quite frustrated. because i'm afab, my gender dysphoria can be insane when i'd rather be male, which makes it irritatingly hard to be alone with my thoughts. secondly, the only reason i'm aegosexual (asexual) is due to the fact that i am not amab. when i'm feeling more male, i have a tendency to fantasize (not going to say it explicitly, but you know what i mean) and have it immediately tamped down because i don't have an amab body. it can get really fucking annoying.

Being queer is an important part of my life. For a very long time I was confused on why I was so different from other people in school when they started dating and I felt nothing towards any of my peers. Discovering myself really turned that around and I’m really proud of who I’ve become. I now am not worried about dating as much, and in recent years I’ve begun to see myself as handsome instead of a strange girl. I still love that girl as she is a part of me, but I’m much happier where I am now, especially since I’ve finally found a name that fits my soul. It feels good when people use that name :)

Being queer is something I mostly hide irl, dropping minute hints here and there. My parents are rather unsupportive of me, but my friends and my cousin aren't. It took 5 years to realize I wasn't cis after feeling wrong when I looked in the mirror. Honestly my first exposure to queer media was Steven Universe. It changed my life and is my comfort show now. I even bought the box set lol. If I hadn't seen the show I'd probably not be alive, seeing as I was told being queer was sinful my entire life.

hi i'm psyche (pronounced "sigh-key". yes, with the "e". i get a lot of "psych") and i'm genderfluid (she/they generally works), bisexual, demisexual, & greyromantic

kind of a big struggle (aside from dysphoria) is that my family doesn't really understand what it's like being bi and what that means for me, and also they don't really get the concept of dysphoria, so whenever i bring it up, they'll tell me "but you look fine" and i'm thinking "that doesn't matter, that's not the point" but WHATEVER

moving onto a positive: my gf :), my bsf (love her, so supportive), and also my entire school friend group (all fellow queers)
