Since you’ve been answering a lot of Kaz asks lately, I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon too lol

I recently re-read Gone, Not Forgotten (its on my heartbreak rotation fic don’t @ me) and I paid slightly closer attention to it— Lin opens up about Kaz to Bumi??? Her last most meaningful relationship??

With this knowledge, and seeing as Bumi retires right after + Kaz comes back to RC, how does this go about? Does it ever come up in conversation? When Tenzin vents about Kaz at home, does Bumi have an evil grin like “ofc you don’t like him”? Does Kaz know that Lin told Tenzin’s brother about them? (You know when the mail finds her at Kaz’s place and he’s like it’s okay if you told someone). Or has Lin not mentioned Kaz by name to Bumi so Bumi at some point has a notepad and pen, fully sherlocked with Bumju at the council chambers to see at the sight of whom Chief Beifong’s heart beats a little more affectionately.

This has opened up the floor for so much for me haha

So, I wrote that fic when I was still ironing out the details for Lin and Kaz, so I think my intentions then aren’t exactly the same ‘canon’ as my intentions now but I’ll break it down both ways-

I think originally it would have been a situation where Bumi is grinning and saying ‘ofc you don’t like him 😈’ but as it stands I’m glad I left it a little vague because for it to align with Spirit of Change it would make more sense if he knew *something* but didn’t have a name and was fully Sherlocked with Bumju lmaooooo

In either situation I think Lin saying it was her most meaningful relationship since Tenzin would have been a sarcastic comment from her since in either timeline it was just casual hookups at that point!

Anyway now I’m loving the idea of Bumi and Bumju on a side quest about who this could be and driving Lin insane tryin to get info about it from her at the worst possible time hahahah

since we know that suyin (the sister who leaves her past behind) goes on to establish zaofu, i like the idea of lin (the sister who clings to the past) inheriting their family house in the republic city and then never changing anything in it. she rationalizes this by telling herself that selling the house just to get a different one simply isn't worth the hassle, but in truth it's her emotional attachment to what the house symbolizes and what could have happened in it that's keeping her tethered. moving the belongings of her sister (left behind when she was sent away to gaoling) doesn't feel right, but neither does letting them gather dust, so she tidies the room up once in a while when cleaning the rest of the house. probably gets uncomfortably emotional while doing that. definitely gets annoyed and frustrated with herself for getting emotional. likely considers shipping suyin's things off to zaofu in a cardboard box when she gets too angry with their one-sided correspondence, but never finds it in herself to go through with it, so when post-reconciliation suyin comes in for a visit, she's confronted with a pristinely polished and deeply incriminating shell of her past self.
