yknow i wrote this with the theory that banky was, in fact, in love with holden (but maybe hadn't quite realized it yet), but now i'm reading this again thinking about @gaydantehicks' post theorizing banky had no attraction (at least none that was romantic) so holden saying banky was in love with him was just an incorrect assumption. so if we're putting these ideas together, banky isn't suffering through being "found out" but he IS suffering through the cringiness of holden being wrong with full confidence. this isn't as interesting to me but it makes up for it by being way funnier

so many times in the loop and holden once again is about to say it and then banky interrupts him by saying "i'm not in love with you" and holden's thrown off for a moment but then goes "that's exactly what someone who is secretly in love with me would say" and banky groans so loud it scares alyssa
