Omg wait a second I read about it over a year ago in an article in a leftist online paper about young black Ethiopian Jewish man/teenagers who had sought refuge in Israel and got treated like literal dirt instead (also the fact some women were given contraceptive shots against their will and knowledge to keep them from reproducing and that was only 12 years ago) and that there were several cases of israeli military and police shooting them dead then claiming it was self defense or them going missing and turning up dead and even though their families tried to fight it and saying they wouldn’t have done that it got filed away as "suicides" and there also was the case of an ethiopian jewish man named avera mengistu who was reported to have been mentally unstable by his family who just wandered off from his home in a poor low income neighborhood in south Israel not far from Gaza one day and the border patrol guards on the Gaza fence just let him pass into the Strip but made clear he did it out of "his own free will" even though it’s one of the most surveilled borders in the world according to reports and there he was promptly noticed and arrested then interrogated by Hamas. Even though his family reported him officially missing and human rights organizations called for his release or negotiations NOTHING happened for 10 years. Prisoner exchange demands were apparently met with no reaction from Israel either. Hamas posted on their twitter account "Obviously, the real Israeli motto is 'leave no Ashkenazi man behind'." Benjamin Netanyahu was prime minister from 2009-2021 and again since 2022 to today.
The man’s family stated over and over again they felt like the israeli authorities were hiding something from them. Some officials put emphasis on the fact he passed the border willingly. His case also got little public attention in Israel in general, whereas the case of captive soldier Gilad Shalit from a few years prior received widespread attention in media.
The Ethiopian jewish community in Israel apparently was made to feel alienated again post-oct-7 when faces and names of the new hostages were plastered literally all over the country and the media, but avera‘s name was nowhere to be seen when they called to "bring all hostages home." Activists involved in his case have been saying his case highlights the inequalities faced by non-white Jews in Israel perfectly. They were ostracized for bringing him up because "now is not the time."
TODAY while randomly remembering this case again and googling I just found out this way he actually is still alive and has FINALLY been released 4 months ago as part of the first phase of the then-ceasefire deal!! But there is almost NO ARTICLES about it in israeli and international media. Genuinely insane. Hope he and his family are reunited and somehow heal from the trauma.
anyway can we talk about goyim weaponizing ethiopian jews against israel… screaming about wanting to see the imminent destruction of the only jewish state in the world, but the topic of the ethiopian jewish diaspora comes up and it’s “THESE POOR OPPRESSED BABIES THEY NEED TO BE SAVED FROM ISRAEL 🥺🥺”
these fuckers have PROBABLY never spoken to an israeli or a jew, let alone an ethiopian jew, and suddenly wanna speak on behalf of their people as if they’re a monolith with no voices of their own LMFAOOO
