that dance scene in aftersun when under pressure is playing and everyone is dancing and calum starts dancing as well inviting sophie with his moves to come dance too and then he mixes with the crowd dancing and sophie starts to enter the crowd reaching to calum and lights starts flickering and we see older self of sophie reaching out for her dad more like reaching out to that memory, while calum seems to get lost in dancing and then she tries to hold him and then hug him and then we see little sophie hugging calum.
so i recently rewatched nick and charlies first kiss scene and i had these thoughts i just needed to share.
so they're sat down alone in the room together and their conversation has built up and then charlie asks nick "would you kiss someone who wasn't a girl." immediately you can see the panic and confusion on nicks face. the tears are forming in his eyes and he looks so scared and nervous which is why he responds with "i don't know" his brain is going 100mph bc of the situation he's in, charlie can CLEARLY see this in his face. he can hear in his voice how nervous he is and what a big deal this must be for nick. so then charlie sort of brings it back down, tries to make nick more comfortable. and rather than ask the big scary "would you kiss a boy" question its "would you kiss me" it's taking all that fear of 'kissing a boy' away and replacing it with Himself. Just Charlie. nick has nothing to fear or be scared of with charlie. they both trust each other so much and i think by charlie then asking that question it allows nick to calm down and see the situation for what it is. not some terrifying Oh My God I'm Gonna Kiss A Boy but just charlie. I'm Just Kissing Charlie
whether this was something conscious in the wording of it or not i just love the idea that this is maybe what charlie was thinking at the time

25% is better than 0%. trying a little is better than not trying at all. eating a protein bar is better than nothing. using dry shampoo is better than not showering. cleaning one section of your room or house is better than not cleaning any of it. writing a paragraph of your essay is better than not starting it. whatever you can manage today is okay. you can try again tomorrow. little steps are to be proud of.
I saw everyone on twitter tearing Emma Watson apart for saying she’s self - partnered instead of single and decided to watch her interview for British Vogue to know what the hell was she trying to say with that. I was very surprised to find a 30 minute video in which amongst other things she talks about the following:
She felt undeserving when she was appointed as UN Women goodwill ambassador and sought out Gloria Steinem to learn about feminist activism.
She thinks the criticism she received for being a white feminist was useful because it made her educate herself.
She says there’s a desperate need to reform the education system in the UK to change the way they are taught the history of how Britain has been involved in foreign affairs and how they profited from slavery.
She felt anxious about approaching 30 because there’s a lot of pressure to have a husband and a baby by then and she’s still figuring her life out.
She was so young when she was casted in Harry Potter that she doesn’t remember much of her life before it and she went to therapy to deal with her issues with fame. She used to feel very guilty for being unhappy because she thought she should enjoy fame more.
The interviewer is a transgender woman and they discuss transgender issues for a while. Emma is in regular contact with a trans child which makes the topic of trans rights emotional for her because she’s very anxious for this kid’s safety.
She talks about her role as Meg March in the new Little Women movie and defends that unlike what many people say choosing to be a wife and a mother doesn’t make Meg a less feminist character and quotes a line from the movie, “Just because my dreams are different than yours it doesn’t mean they are unimportant.” Â
She wishes more people would realize she’s not Hermione Granger but also understands why they want to see that in her because Hermione is a symbol for her too.
She used to think she could never be happy without a partner and now that she has learnt to navigate that better and is genuinely happy single she’s started to think of herself as self - partnered in contrast to the time when she thought of herself as single = lonely.
Every media outlet decided to focus in an out of context quote from the three minutes she talked about her dating life when the actual interview had a lot of depth and way more important things were discussed. I’m sad and angry but not surprised.
LET YOUR ART BE UGLY!!! LET YOUR WRITING BE BAD!!! DANCE OFFBEAT!!! SING OFF KEY!!! LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO LET YOUR FEAR OF NOT BEING GOOD ENOUGH PREVENT YOU FROM LEARNING AND ENJOYING NEW THINGS!!!Â
Old photo of my grandparents, when they were dating.
lesser movies than mamma mia (2008) would've made the central conflict be between the three dads and stoked endless competition and jealousy between them, fighting about who gets to be sophie's "real dad" and who has (and had) a "right" to pursue donna but mamma mia is no such movie. mamma mia is a cinematic masterpiece and as such they are pals throughout, happily go along with all the shenanigans and spend loads of quality time together throughout the film. they are just vibing! and then all three of them become the dads no questions asked. no drama! only vibing in greece
That was horrible
Definitely not the roll I was expecting...
"you didn't know me when i was 13." "i really wish i did."
