I’m not even like necessarily a Christopher Nolan fangirl. I fucking adore inception and Oppenheimer but I dislike his Batman trilogy and i found dunkirk so boring I turned it off midway through (maybe I should give it another chance). The Odyssey is just an incredible feat. It’s not the type of movie that gets made anymore. It’s an epic about gods, magic, monsters, and the hubris of man and it takes itself so seriously. Most filmmakers are afraid of this kind of earnestness. And this is THE blockbuster of the summer!

one of my creative writing professors once said that to evaluate a work as good or not, first you ask what the work is attempting to do, and then you evaluate how well it does it. and this is how to judge everything from critical essays to romance novels to snack packaging to theory tracts.
what if I said Erin Kellyman should have played Athena in the odyssey
there’s a cultural obsession with labelling all female authors as unintelligent or otherwise only capable of accidentally stumbling into brief moments of genius in their works that we need to start pushing back against
we need more movies with detestable villains because I s2g I have not loathed a movie villain like I hated rpattz in the odyssey in AGES. I would have applauded when he died if anybody else in the theater had joined in

idiots (affectionate)・[77/?] ⤷ 3.22 — “Quagmire”
"The land was rich and kindly, and though it had long been deserted when they entered it, it had before been well tilled, and there the king had once had many farms, cornlands, vineyards, and woods. Forty leagues it stretched from the Far Downs to the Brandywine Bridge, and fifty from the northern moors to the marshes in the south. The Hobbits named it the Shire, as the region of the authority of their Thain, and a district of well-ordered business; and there in that pleasant corner of the world they plied their well-ordered business of living, and they heeded less and less the world outside where dark things moved, until they came to think that peace and plenty were the rule in Middle-earth and the right of all sensible folk."

thinking about dragon age. The iron bull would be perceived really differently if he were a conventionally attractive man but then again I guess the point is he isn’t that
