It was pretty clear, like the clock tower, if anything was happening in Fibonacci Ward, it was probably happening upwards.

At least that seemed the better place to start looking before he went down to the base of those tall buildings.

It also seemed, unlike the clock tower, nobody had made anti-spider rune countermeasures.

Unfortunately, as it happened, Spirale had thoughtfully made him an anti-spider rune countermeasure… as he found out after having traveled about thirty minutes up a building and suddenly losing his footing.

(thirty minutes up, incidentally, is not that far when you’re busy looking in windows and otherwise dawdling)

Either way, here he goes!

Odd sights weren’t uncommon around Spirale. In fact, Switch would hazard to say that it would be weird if something strange didn’t cross your path on the every-other-daily. Take today, for example. A day out to Fibonacci finds him with his phone out and recording, watching a new guy clamoring up one of the buildings like nobody’s business. Maybe he was just waiting for him to fall, there was always a time limit on this stuff.

Maybe five minutes into watching it, there’s a stumble, an unsticking, and there’s an urge for Switch to heckle him to do a flip. But instead, there’s a jolt, some deep depths of programming, a ghost of a law. Against his better judgement, he springs into action. He shoves his phone into his pocket and rushes forward, holding out his arms to catch the poor sap before he splats on the ground.

There’s a heavy thunk as body hits metal, and metal subsequently hits concrete as the force sends him toppling forward. His optics fade out of focus for a moment before the pixel-y mess turns into... Something comprehensible, but still weird. Fire for a head was a new sight.

“You good, dude?” That was definitely one way to start a conversation. “Did you, like, have a plan when you started crawling like that?”

Yes, he can see how this bug assembled a whole team - he can’t quite understand everything Switch said (not sure what “hella” or “mixup” mean), but the other’s energy is infectious. Switch’s passion for the game has ignited his own interest. “If your game has space for me, I’d be honored to join in. If I’ve already mastered bunting, then that’s a better start than I could’ve hoped for!”

Switch’s voice module crackles with a laugh, and his optic shutters close a little in a hint of a squinting smile. “We always got room, dude. The more the merrier or whatever,” he says, lifting his hand with his thumb and pinky out, wiggling it a bit in a ‘hang loose’ gesture. He’d put a pin in that whole thing of Quirrel being from the woods or the wilds or whatever. “We can hop back in when the inning’s over. That’s long enough to teach you to play, right?”

He makes a 180 turn at his waist first with a whirr before his legs follow the motion, and he lifts up his hand to gesture for Quirrel to follow him towards the bleacher’s behind the batter’s box. There, he digs into a bag that has extra supplies, and he fishes out a ball and a spare bat. He rolls the bat on the ground towards Quirrel, and he tosses the ball between his hands a couple times to calibrate the feel of it.

“Okay, so, like. You got two teams. One’s hitting, and one’s catching. It switches between rounds. There’s two phases, the top and bottom, and there’s nine rounds, called innings. You with me so far?”

full name. Citynetics Workbot Unit C-8 5779. or, yknow, just switch. never bothered to come up with a last name for himself

nickname. very often called “dude” or “bro”, mostly by raptor. not really a nickname but regularly gets called shit like “tin can” or “scrap” by hecklers.

gender. dude, he/him

height. six foot even

age. he was manufactured five years ago, but being a construction bot, he was built to have the sense of someone in At Least their mid 20s to work a dangerous job and be personable to human workers. now, he’s got the attitude of a college dropout, so he’s mentally like 21

zodiac. he didn’t want his birthday to be the same day that the other bots were manufactured, so when he became lucid, he gave himself a new birthday. the thing is, he had two days in mind, but he didn’t want to pick between them. so, his birthdays are september 19th and october 28th, the anniversaries of the release dates of tony hawk’s pro skater 2 and 3, making him a virgo and a scorpio. whatever one he chooses that year is anyone’s guess

spoken languages. he was programmed knowing english and spanish, but he downloaded a japanese patch as well after he went lucid

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS.

hair color. bald! bald! bald!

eye color. glowing yellow. they look really sick in the dark

skin tone. burnished steel. he really needs to get himself polished again

accent. is bitcrushed an accent? otherwise, he’s very much got the speech patterns of someone from coastal socal, very much has that flavor of “surfer dude”. what the fuck kind of guy in probably 21XX says gnarly unironically?

voice. did you know switch has the longest set of voice clips in the game? i think that’s neat

dominant hand. okay, being a robot he doesn’t have a dominant hand, so he’s ambidextrous, but he did program himself to have a dominant foot. bear with me on this. you see, in skating, you generally have your dominant foot be the one on the back of the board to have better control. he programmed himself to have his left foot be his dominant foot so he could be goofy footed

posture. he’s just got a habit of standing up straight, he probably can’t even bend much around the waist.

tattoos. his arm guards being decked out and bolted on is kinda close? i’ll call that tattoos, just short of actually engraving his chassis

birthmarks. speaking of chassis engravings! his barebones frame under his main chest piece is engraved with the citynetics logo in a few places, as are a lot of his other more fiddly parts

noticeable feature(s). he’s decked himself out A Lot compared to other citynetics workbots so he doesn’t get lost in a crowd. for one, he wears pants and shoes. but also, he’s done away with any safety markings on his parts, he’s modified his chestpiece to have much more appealing lights, and his armguards-- which match his board no less? he’s curated his style to fit himself perfectly

CHILDHOOD.

relationship tendencies. he WILL make a mixtape and IT WILL have daft punk on it. he’s very chill in a relationship, though. he doesn’t do big grand romantic gestures, and generally things dont change much between him and his partner. he’s still a dumbass, he’s still chill, he just likes holding hands and maybe gets into movies for half off by pretending to be a guardbot or something

MISCELLANEOUS.

character’s theme song. sk8er boi his home stage in blaze is the abandoned pool with this as the theme, so That Works. but if you ask me, i heavily associate him with this song from ollie king,

mental illnesses. not a mental illness, but he’s got some shades of neurodivergency. he’s got some flavor of adhd, or as he likes to call it, 80HD. otherwise, a while back he was in a pretty bad depressive spiral for being where he was. like, things were easier when he was a braindead bot, or if he was fully human, not somewhere in between. now, he’s mostly gotten over that rough patch with the help of his bro and some other friends in the league

self-confidence level. oh he is super confident 64. like, genuinely, he’s probably one of the cockiest members of the league, with boasts such as “i’m not programmed to lose”. it doesn’t stop at him being competitive, he’s open and easygoing, personable but strong in his convictions

vulnerabilities. he IS still a robot, so anything that messes with machinery will fuck him up. you can also get to him if you mess with someone he cares about

They’re much taller than he is, and speak in a manner he’s never heard before. Likely a fellow traveler, then. Certainly a friendly one, considering they’ve found enough friends for a game.

“I’m Quirrel - I’m a traveler passing through this lovely city, enjoying what I see. I’ve unfortunately never heard of a ‘bunt’, nor am I familiar with the game you’re playing. I’d love to learn more.”

“Oh, dude, a bunt is like--! Okay, you like, hit the ball, but you don’t actually swing at it? You just sorta get in its way and let it fall. It’s a hella good mixup strat. I can totally teach you how to play!” he explains before he can stop himself.

There’s only a short pause before he starts again. 80HD ass. “Shit, my bad, probably should have told you my name first. I’m Switch,” he says, gesturing at himself with his thumbs. “Didn’t know you could really pass through this place. That mean you’re from the woods or something?” Quirrel definitely doesn’t sound like he’s lived out in the woods his whole life; in fact, if he wasn’t so friendly, Switch would have taken his speech patterns as being patronizing. It doesn’t quite click in his processes that Quirrel might be new around here.

There’s really no shortage of sights in this city. No matter where Quirrel looks, there is piece of culture to inspect or a technological marvel to behold or a person to chat with (and the people are so friendly!). At this particular moment, he stands on a grassy hill overlooking a field, watching a group of bugs play some manner of sport. Most are humans, but one bug has a silver shell that gleams brilliantly in Sun’s light. Perhaps they’re from the same place as that giant he met before?

The silver bug parries a thrown projectile with a thundering CRACK, and the missile is sent far, far, and… oh.

It’s headed directly for Quirrel’s head.

Immediately, he takes a defensive position, holding his scavenged broomstick weapon in front of his mask. The projectile (or, actually, that’s a ball, isn’t it?) strikes the wooden stick with decent force and then falls to the ground, gently rolling with residual momentum.

Real baseball had a hell of a lot more rules than League Ball, that was for sure. He was used to anything goes, used to playing until you can’t play any more. But even with all the confusing rules about strikes and outs and bases, Switch picked them up quick with the help of some locals for pick-up games. He had a mean pitch, and an even meaner swing, and that’s what mattered.

Though, that mean swing sometimes sent the ball right where it didn’t need to go. This time, it was sent soaring well out of the foul line and towards some buggy dude that was just minding his business. He tosses his bat to the ground and rushes over to investigate-- and also to fetch the ball.

“Woah, man. Sorry about that. I’m still working on my aim,” he says with a buzzing laugh. He’s already met a few of these buggy dudes in his time here. Some of them... A lot chiller than others. “You were pretty quick with that broom, my dude. Real good bunt.” He bends down at the waist to pick up the ball, tossing it back at the others to keep the game going. That was his third strike anyway, that meant he was out.

Vampire can hardly make heads or tails of this place. Arriving here under an eclipse, being herded into a car and handed a phone, then dropped off at a condo. It’s all very overwhelming. Is this all some weird dream? Where’s everyone else? Someone he knows, that is–this place certainly doesn’t have a population problem.

He’s only in his new condo for a little while before he realizes he’s without most of his worldly possessions. No wine, no coffin, and none of his clothes besides what’s on his back. He can get all that back, he figures. The clothes are probably the easiest to get.

It doesn’t take Vampire long to find the mall, but Vampire is soon distracted by all the stores. Everywhere he looks are little chachkies and toy stores and so many other things he wants to check out. He hasn’t forgotten why he’s come here, but he figures he may as well stay here until dark anyway. he may as well explore the whole mall. And its during his exploration that someone catches his eye.

“Oh, wow. Are you a robot?” he says, looking… well, sleepy, but also impressed. “Or… No, don’t tell me that’s a costume!”

Alright, this mall was pretty cool. Back in Shine City, Switch didn’t get to go to malls much, considering that he was low-key wanted in like five different ways; not to mention he never had any cash. But this was pretty chill, and he actually had some money.

At the moment he’s contemplating getting himself kicked out by sliding down the escalator railing, or maybe going back and getting some pretty sweet kicks he saw in a shop window. That was, until he hears somebody say the word ‘robot’. He whips around with just his upper body, with his legs following in a whirring pivot afterwards.

What he sees is somebody he definitely doesn’t expect to know what a robot is. This guy with red hair in a frilly Victorian get-up looks like he just walked out of a painting, or a historical analysis of gay coding in classic works.

“No, it’s totally a costume,” he buzzes sarcastically, though he doesn’t make a show of making himself sound more mechanical.
