pov you are a new gay couple on your first holiday together. you guys spot another queer couple at the resort who seem really happy and stable; it's a little intimidating. you want to make friends, but don't know how. maybe if you guys just seem really interesting that night at dinner they'll want to come over and talk to you, so you laugh a little louder and try to seem fun

they start mocking you across the room by obviously fake laughing at each other and then pausing to glare at you. the blonde one rolls his eyes when you're polite to the waiter. you hear from the masseuse that he knocked over a bucket earlier

At the beach, you set your chairs down near them. Close enough, you hope, that they can hear your fun conversation and try to join in, but far enough that you're not invading their space. One of them makes a disgusted face, and when he shifts, the other one notices and mirrors it. They pick up their chairs and move to the opposite side of the beach. One of them might have even scoffed as he walked away.
