garrus.
“Yes…?” He stared at her for a few moments, unsure of whether or not he knew her. She looked vaguely familiar, but he couldn’t place her. “I’m… sorry, I don’t know your name.”
infinitely forgettable. oriana didn’t think negatively of garrus’s lack of rememberance, he probably met so many people that randoms like her just got swept under the rug. “oh i’m oriana, miranda’s sister - you, shepard and randa saved me back on illium. i never got to say thank you.”
???
“I mean, you ever lived here? Really lived here?” He gestured. “Those guys I recognize, they do this every other week, people’ll punch each other and they’ll burn themselves out. I don’t think they ever killed someone else for real.” He sounded disconcertingly calm about it all.
This was how the wards worked. If they ever truly got out of hand, someone would handle it, he was sure.
at the question oriana could only shake her head in response. she’d only transferred to the citadel’s university a short time ago, and getting used to things was challenging at best. “no, i’m from illium actually - most of our underbelly is dealt with in the dark,” she explained with a shrug of her shoulders, shocked by the turian’s calm attitude about it. “i have no idea where i’m headed actually. the signs are quite... vague.”
garrus.
symphcnia liked for a starter.
“Ah, sorry. I should watch where I’m going.” He rubbed the back of his neck as he stepped aside to let the human pass.
“oh it’s alright!” truthfully, oriana had too many thoughts running through her head. her hands fidgeting as she checked to see if both the turian and herself were okay. that’s when she recognized the voice, his face. was that... “...garrus?”
“IN OTHER NEWS: WATER IS WET.”
i'm as smart as my s i s t e r.
nalmaya.
To the guards, he is standing there doing nothing more than making odd sounds at her. Clicks and trills and chirping noises that only another Collector could understand. He doesn’t let them hear his voice.
Nalmaya narrows his eyes and tilts his head at her, but refrains from trying to read her. He is aware it will provoke a negative reaction, and he does not want to leave her company by force.
“You were not indoctrinated. I do not remember sensing it on you. The contact was unintentional, then.” He finally moves, sitting beside her. “That is what I felt like when they woke me. It killed some of us, the wakening, but I lived. I am pleased you did not come to physical harm.”
the guards seem to watch her carefully, waiting for her to make some kind of movement so they can tie her back to the bed, but she doesn’t. she knows better. her father used to do the same thing to miranda, at least that’s what she’d heard. as he comes over towards her, she seems to relax, and this makes the guards move back to their posts outside of the room. her eyes close for a moment as she listens to the collector’s words, how his voice seems to vibrate against the back of her skull. it’s not an unpleasant feeling actually, it beats that monster’s voice. “are the shakes common with it, because i feel like i’m stuck on noveria?”
shepard.
“Oh should they huh?” James chuckled with a soft smile, “I’ve been okay. Was ordered on shore leave so…”
“okay you know you’re working too hard when you’re a spectre ordered to be on shore leave. where ya headed?”
nalmaya.
When he had heard about it Nalmaya made an effort to get into that hospital room. But under guard given what he is, not at all trusted alone with the young girl. It was only very recently that the Collectors had even been allowed to walk among the public, after all.
“No.” He answers. Empty eyes staring down at her with curiosity. “They have touched you. The Leviathan.” His voice inside her head becomes quieter, “They have touched me, too. Released me. Were you asleep as well?”
he’s not speaking aloud, and it almost seems strange to her. why did she remember him talking like javik? it must have been a warped memory. god knows how many the leviathan touched, altered. her breathing is shaky, and suddenly everything feels too tight. she wants to move, wants to get out of this bed and shake off whatever remnants of things she’s feeling. “i... i don’t remember,” it slurs out of her mouth as her hand moves to her forehead, “it was an orb, a sphere... dr. hayes told me to get away from it and before i knew it was like biotics... mass effect energy covering my body. it was so strange. it burned like eezo. then it got really cold.” she shrugs at the question of sleep, she assumed she was though everything just seemed... off.
shepard.
“I suppose, I am. Though I do have to say I have reason to be.”
“even galactic saviors have to lighten up sometimes.” oriana spoke with a small laugh, “how’ve you been anyways?”
shepard.
James looked up and chuckled, “Are you trying to say I’m dull, Ms. Lawson?”
“i wouldn’t go as far to say dull shepard, just serious. extremely serious.”
“i threw rocks at the wrong window but i’m a little drunk and my girlfriend just dumped me so hey do you want to hang out with me?” au
She was meant to replace me. I couldn’t let my father do to her what he did to me. So I rescued her. She’s almost a woman now.
“hey tali, i know you use emergency induction ports for drinks, so i got you edible ones? well ones you can taste, i don’t know if they’d agree with your digestive system but they taste really good! like candy. it’ll make the liquor go down easier.”
it felt strange being back in her own body, the effects of exposure to the leviathan still remained. not even the warmed blankets that covered her retained heat. she could stand in front of the sun and still freeze. what catches her off guard however is the prothean that stood in her hospital room. she blinked a few times. “aren’t i dead - i mean, i’m supposed to be.”
“and here i thought fun wasn’t in your vocabulary, yet here you are on the strip of all places. you’re just full of suprises, huh shepard?”
“so um, okay first you gotta promise you won’t go all ‘randa’ on me,” oriana spoke with a faint shudder, “i’m gonna be joining the conduit team.”
