fuuuuck i just realized that the future idealized version of myself cant exist without current me being the catalyst for change and doing hard things. has anybody heard about this
there's this pickled sausage that is called utopenec in Czech, but literally it means 'drowned man'
I saw the potential and ran the wiki article through g*ogle translate, and it did not disappoint
I happen to think mistranslated cookbooks are the pinnacle of comedy. so, here's one more:
Czech tumblrinas, do you actually partake in resurrecting the dead and cannibalism, and is the latter a metaphor for love, yes or no,
please respond, would love to hear from you xoxo
Spočiatku to mal byť malinký zostrih úsmevných dabingových momentov, nakoniec som sa trochu nechal uniesť a je to vo výsledku *edit* z česky nadabovanej verzie Spasitele (Project Hail Mary) :D
Hi everyone ! I've made a traditional clothing map
One year ago or so, someone asked me if I had a traditional clothing map. At the time I didn't really, but I decided it was in fact a good project for the next years.
So, this is it, my traditional clothing map as of right now :
https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1CbCLoUhuwkEvniOLLa24Y4fLqs7Ip4Y&usp=sharing
I'm sharing it here so you can have a look at my work so far. As you can see, it's not complete at all, far from it. For some region I took the time to do a lot of research, a lot others, I didn't got the time yet.
I'm sharing it for two purposes :
1) If you have any suggestions with high quality contemporary pictures for a specific geographical place, don't hesitate to send by DM's or under this post, I'll gladly add it in the map
2) If you see any corrections to be made, please tell me, as I struggle a lot with the different languages and differences between photoshoot places and where the clothings actually originate from, which is what interest me with making this map.
To be clear : This is not a finished product, far from it. And english is not my first language. I'm mostly posting this for correction, in case I've made mistake, for the rest I'll continue updating the map little by little, day by day :)
I'm all about Ablaut reduplication
Having a really long-term hyperfixation that has since faded is terrifying yes but it's also so embarrassing. Hi I used to think about Scrimblo Splungus 25/7. Yeah, for 2 years straight. Nah, I don't think about them anymore except for with a vague sense of melancholy as I recall how they used to make me feel. Anyways this new one, Blimpkins McGee? I'm gonna think about them forever and the cycle will NOT repeat in 2 years. Trust me guys.

Narration, in a serious, dramatic voice: We find no evidence paranormal activity inside this mine, but we do find an absolutely adorable kitty kitty.
Person on screen, using a baby voice: Hi little kitty kitty! Hi little kitty kitty! Ohh, you’re just a little kitty kitty!
i think americans should have to put a banner above their post that says U.S. CENTRIC ADVICE/INFORMATION. i think political posts should clarify that they are giving protest/societal/class information relevant only to the USA i think i would like to stop getting halfway through a post with really good information and then realising it is not widespread advice and is only applicable in the united states of america
for the love of GOD can we PLEASE stop treating us-centric advice as applicable to the whole entire world. Please. beyond anything else, i do not think you guys understand how difficult it makes it for young people to interact with and learn information relevant to them.
at a certain point, treating us-american advice as universally applicable borders on misinformation. i am not saying that it is done maliciously, but it is dangerous at worst. i do not want younger people going around assuming that certain laws do/do not apply to them and getting in trouble because of it. i worry about what 'fundamental/constitutional/labour rights' are only legally defensible in the USA. i worry about kids who do not know yet to wonder where the advice is for, and take it as fact because a post that reads "EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THIS" begins with "EVERYONE".
okay yes all the tags are very very good points but i would like to point out the main reason i made this post, which is that
if you are non-american then it can be dangerous to hold beliefs about your rights that are only applicable in the US.
i am australian and i have seen young australians have completely us-american perceptions on the rights they hold (or do not hold) in regards to protest, police officers, self-defense, medical care, higher education, debt, and legal proceedings. i am not talking about "boooo americans" i am talking about the genuine danger it might present to have us-centric assumptions in high-stakes situations
(please do not chalk this up to 'if you don't do research then you are stupid'. i made this post with young people in mind. that being said i am willing to bet it also applies to others, ie those who are newer to non-local internet, older folks, or those escaping high-control environments.)
anyway i looked up the post about seeing your grandma's boobs and tumblr has deleted the screenshot of the story where the finnish dude says that americans are "like that" because they haven't seen their grandma's tits
good job tumblr 👍
there it is!
my comments on that post were (sorry for shamelessly copy-pasting them):
american attitudes about nudity are fucking wild, and the worst part is that because they're american, they just assume that everyone everywhere thinks the same. i will never forget seeing people on a left-leaning, progressive site saying that families bathing together is creepy and gross and clearly a sign that something is wrong with the family, that they'd never seen their siblings or parents naked and would in fact rather die. meanwhile to this day i bathe and go to the sauna with my sister and mother and have been bathing and sauna'ing with various family members - and even strangers! - my whole life. but yes, can confirm, seeing your grandma's tits as a child does you good, and not just because it teaches you that "beauty is fake and temporary", but because it broadens your ideas about what beauty even is in the first place. my sister and i used to spend our summers at our grandma's house by the countryside and frequently bathed and went to sauna with her. we saw not just her breasts but also her flabby skin, her moles and liver spots, her body hair and varicose veins, and we didn't see any of that as weird or ugly because they were a part of our grandma who we loved very much. and when we see those things in other people - ourselves included! - we think "well it wasn't ugly on my grandma's body, so why would it be ugly on anyone else's body?". it makes you much more understanding and "forgiving", if you will, towards the completely normal bodies of strangers as well as your own body.
I takhle nudně vypadá doma. A protože je to doma, je to to nejvzácnější, krásnější než všechny divy světa.
"I want to write, but I'm having a hard time getting anything on the page..."
Thomas Wolfe wrote most of his work on top of his refridgerator.
Alexander Dumas ordered his servant to take away all of his clothes so he couldn't leave the house when he was working on a deadline.
Agatha Christie got inspiration from eating apples and looking at crime scene photos in the bathtub.
Get weird with it, sis.
I often find the hardest part is starting. Once I get a couple sentences out it often flows pretty well.
Sometimes I do have to force that first sentence or two! But it works for me.
Worth a shot, right?
I start with garbage, knowing that the first sentence and often the first paragraph will get scrapped. It gets the momentum going though and that’s the important part.
The collision of India and Eurasia, which started about 50 million years ago and continues to this day, formed the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau.
