// tips for being an a* student
by @peachblossomstudy
I see a lot of âcisâ women say they wish they were androgynous in the way men were or they wish they were pretty in the way men were. This is your sign to go try to do that. You may find you enjoy being an androgynous woman. You may find you no longer identify as a woman. You may find you donât like androgyny. You will not know until you try. Cut your hair if youâve always wanted to but have been afraid to. Shop in the menâs section if youâve been too nervous to. Wear clothing with an androgynous ïżŒ silhouette. Experiment with binding, take baby steps with compression bras if you want. Wear unisex scents. Live life. Try things you want to try. A lot of cis women do not understand the joys of mens pants and mens deodorant. I think everyone should try both of those things.

Itâs literally that simple
Friend: âhey my son canât concentrate on his homework. He chooses to do literally anything else everytime. He said his head doesnât feel like it.â
Me: âDid you give him music?â
Friend: âNo! No tech until heâs done! He doesnât need more distracted.â
Me:
âk, bring me the childâ
*Go to her house*
*points to the obviously ADHD boy struggling with his homework*
Me: âso your head doesnât feel like doing homework?â
Son: âyeah. It would rather do ANYTHING else.â
Me: *unwrapping earbuds* here, listen to this for an hour while you do it.
French voice: 1hr later
Son: âk Iâm done! :-)â
Friend: âwow, whatâd you give him? Concentra, Adderall, Ritalinâœâ
Me: âSweet Dreams by Eurythmicsâ and some lo-fi.
I-Iâm gonna try this for myself
Go for it! From what Iâve seen, everyone has a different genre but instrumental (no words) seems to be key. I guess Sweet Dreams words are so ethereal, ADHD just rolls with it????
For me, orchestral covers of songs I know work best since my ADHD is using the extra hyperfocus to remember and keep up with words. Have fun experimenting!!
I have some arrangements of songs I did that I just loop. Mind you, these are, like, 1-3 minutes long, but the drone really helps with focus
Y'all I just listen to Lana Del Rey. Would recommend because with instrumentals I tend to focus on where actual words would be but with Lanaâs stuff her vocals sound like music but itâs words
really wish I couldâve done this when I was spending 4 hours on every page of math homework in the 90âČs. Fast forward to my last year of college when I finally figured out I could just listen to Blackmill and blaze through an entire semester of college math like it was nothing. Find the study methods that work for you!!! Help kids find the study methods that work for them! Â
It takes me all day to do simple chores because i keep getting distracted. If i put in earbuds with upbeat music Iâm done with everything in a couple hours AND i feel really good and probably danced a little i.e. exercised.
Try songs in another language - one you donât speak. The idea is that since you donât understand the words, your brain doesnât go âOh hey, someone is talking to meâ and thus you can maintain your focus. Although, this is something probably  best suited to writing. But on the other hand, if it works, it works. Personally, I like Opera. BUT, I advise against using Pandoraâs Opera Station. At least in the free version, it either cycles through the same ten Singers/Albums or drifts off into instrumental covers. On the other hand, itâs great for background noise when gaming. Just be sure you have an ad blocker running. You will also have to confirm that you are listening every hour or so.Â
Followup on the lofi front: I recommend the following channels. Chillhop Music:Â Â https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOxqgCwgOqC2lMqC5PYz_Dg
In particular, I recommend the relax/study livestream radio. Or just about any of their mixes. Fantasic Music:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZyyXrEF2WCZbI653PFNBbA Both the Chill and the Jazz playlists are excellent. Jazzhop Cafe:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi8wqezBudeAiTdKOX571ug
Their ChillMix videos are the best. Jazzhop Cafe Archive:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKbDâQKXKosHmSXarqYUeg Name is self-evident. I believe ChilledCow also has a livestream, but I honestly prefer Chillhop. YMMV https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSJ4gkVC6NrvII8umztf0Ow
EDIT: Oh, Pandoraâs Vitamin String Quartet IS good, but it tends to drift off into New Age type stuff. Adblocker thing still applies though.Â
Iâve seen is said elsewhere but I also highly recommend video game soudtracks! Especially if you donât tend to enjoy the more orchestral music. They are usually engineered to make you focus better (ie. not want to stop playing the game)

Stuff kids on tumblr better relearn
1. You are responsible for your own media experience.Â
2. There is such a thing as a healthy level of avoidance towards topics that make you feel unwell or even (in a real-life clinical definition of the term) trigger you - but you are the one to actively take care of what you view.
3. Avoiding does not mean policing others.
4. You have no right to tell artists to censor themselves - you may criticize what others do, you may dislike it, thatâs fine - but actively asking for censorship when you could easily unfollow or block a person just makes you look incompetent in your use of the internet.
5. Do not give people on tumblr or /any/ website the responsibility for your emotional well-being. Because these people do not even know you so no, you have no right to ask them to take care of you.
6. Content creators are not your parents and owe you nothing, not even a breakdown on why their content isnât problematic. You donât get to demand a dissertation denouncing any and everything unhealthy in a piece you donât like. Move on.
7. Tagging is a nicety but not an obligation. You can message people, politely, and ask them to tag things, and many people will, but understand that itâs their blog and they arenât obliged to say yes. Unfollow and block when you need to. Circling back to number 1, you are responsible for curating your own experience.
8. Donât be a jerk. Remember at the end of the day, there are actual living, breathing people behind each screen name. Donât say anything you wouldnât say to someoneâs face in real life.Â
I cannot stress enough how important it is to remember this.
The Biden administration has taken a major step on a proposed oil drilling project in Alaska, much to the dismay of climate advocates.
Excerpt from this story from EcoWatch:
The Biden administration has taken a major step on a proposed oil drilling project in Alaskaâs North Slope by releasing a draft of an environmental impact statement (EIS), much to the dismay of climate advocates, CNN reported.
The ConocoPhillips project, known as Willow, would release tons of carbon dioxide emissions and spell disaster for the administrationâs climate goals, which include slashing carbon emissions in the U.S. by half by 2030.
The Trump administration had approved the Willow project, but a judge temporarily blocked it, saying the environmental analysis hadnât sufficiently considered the possible harm to wildlife or additional climate change impact.
The EIS includes an array of possible plans for the project, the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) said, one of which is âno actionâ â meaning no drilling â and doesnât represent a final decision, reported The New York Times. The DOIâs Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will take public comments on the proposed drilling for 45 days, with a final decision expected later this year.
âWe are disappointed to see BLM moving forward with considering the Willow plan when it is so clearly inconsistent with the goals this administration has set to transition away from fossil fuels and avert the worst consequences of the climate crisis,â said Earthjustice attorney Jeremy Lieb, as The Washington Post reported. âThis single project, which will release a staggering amount of climate pollution, threatens to send us dangerously off track by undercutting urgently needed measures to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.â
The EIS said the 30-year Willow project would generate 629 barrels of oil and release from 278 million to 284 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, reported CNN.
In a high-emissions scenario, temperatures in parts of Alaska â including northern areas â are predicted to increase by ten to 16 degrees Fahrenheit by the latter part of the 21st century, the new review of the project said, as The Washington Post reported.
Alaska wildfires as of Tuesday morning from BLM AK Fire Service analysis with the largest fires highlighted. Not all of these fires are currently growing but wide distribution of fires is a big part of the story. Total area burned now 2.74 million acres.

Inuit Canadians will have 24/7 access to Inuktitut-language television programming starting first thing on Monday, at 12:01 a.m.
The Nunavut Independent Television Network (NITV) is launching a new channel â Uvagut TV â starting first thing on Monday, at 12:01 a.m.
The new channelâs Inuktitut title translates to âOur TVâ in English â a term used to encompass all Inuit languages, including Inuktitut, which is spoken in western and central Nunavut.
Canada is home to several other Inuit regions besides Nunavut, including the Inuvialuit region of the Northwest Territories, Nunavik in northern Quebec, and Nunatsiavut in Labrador.
Uvagut TV is calling itself the first language-focused Indigenous television channel in the country. Content will be primarily in Inuit languages, with English subtitles, says the networkâs executive director, Lucy Tulugarjuk.
âFor me, Uvagut TV is a dream come true â to see Inuit culture and to hear our language full time on TV,â Tulugarjuk said in the news release.
âAs our elders pass away, we are fighting against time to keep Inuit culture and language alive for our children and grandchildren. TV in Inuktut all day every day is a powerful way to keep a living language for future generations.â
Tulugarjuk said the network will also have programming in Inuinnaqtun, an Inuktut dialect spoken in western Nunavut, and Inuvialuktun, which is spoken by Inuit in the Northwest Territories.
Both of those languages are considered dying languages, and the organizations from those regions that create cultural programming for television, like the Inuvialuit Communications Society, often create content in English as well.
Tulugarjuk says the network is hoping in the future to have content from Alaska and Greenland.
Some new reading material in the post, from Professor Louis Jacques-Dorais!

Inuktitut is also written using the Latin alphabet.
Smaller superscript versions of symbols are used at the end of a word or before other consonants.
There is a distinction between short and long vowels, the latter of which are marked with a dot above the corresponding syllabic.
Grammar
Nouns have three numbers (singular, dual, and plural) and eight cases (ablative, absolutive, allative, equative, ergative, instrumental, locative, and prolative).
There are two forms of the third-person pronoun: the ânormalâ one and the obviate form, which helps disambiguate the antecedent when both have the same gender.
Verbs are marked for tense and mood, as well as for person and number of both subject and object. They fall into two categories: specific and nonspecific. The former have definite objects.
Dialects
Four main dialects can be distinguished: Qikiqtaaluk nigiani, Nunavimmiutitut, Inuttitut, and Inuktun.
They differ in phonetics, phonology, syntax, and vocabulary.

Study Motivators That Work
The 3 Minute Rule
When you have a task that you don't want to complete, just get started and keep going for 3 minutes. If you still don't want to complete the task after 3 minutes, stop and start another task
This method can be very challenging during the initial stages of trying it
When you procrastinate, you tend to find something else to do first to dodge the main task at hand
This rule forces you to immediately avoid any deviation from completing the task for 3 solid minutes with the option to stop after those 3 minutes
Discipline plays a crucial role in this motivation technique as starting the 3 minutes requires you to overcome procrastination
Something that helps in this process is trying to slightly mentally detach yourself from the situation to have an objective view on it
You need to look at the situation and acknowledge that you have the freedom to stop the task after 3 minutes if you truly cannot complete it and that you absolutely must start the task immediately
Often times, I keep going once I start which results in significantly improved productivity
Flexibile Schedules
Often times, I plan out the perfect study and work session with my tasks and times detailed to the second
However, sometimes, life gets in the way of these plans and I'm forced to reschedule everything
Something like this can be extremely demotivating, especially if your day revolved around your very detailed plan
To help solve such issues, there are 2 options for 2 different scenarios
The first option is to prevent the situation from occurring at all
Extremely rigid and detailed plans are very easy to disrupt
Preventing the situation would be done by outlining more flexible study and work plans that can be done at most times and don't rely on strict timings (I will post another article on creating a flexible and functional study schedule)
The second option is how to move forward if you do find yourself in a situation where your study plans have been disrupted and you're demotivated
In this instance, the first step is to list the topics you need to cover and sort them from most important to least important
Estimate how much time each topic will take and look at how much time you have available
Evaluate if the time you have available is adequate to completely cover all of your listed topics
If not, choose as many topics with the greatest priority that will be able to be completed within your available time
Remember, these steps should be completed within 5 minutes at most to prevent you from losing any more time
There's always a plan for every situation. It just needs to be found.
Justify It
If you truly feel like there's no reason to compete the task, find a reason
If the task is important enough for you to lament over it, it's certainly important enough for you to complete it as soon as possible
Clear your mind of any frustration and just relax
Think of what the purpose of the task is
Do you need to complete an assignment that will be a part of your final grade?
Do you need to complete a report for your job?
Will this benefit you in the future - near or far?
If you need to study, what is your end goal?
When I hesitate with my studying, I always remind myself that what I'm learning now will one day help me improve as a doctor
Once you identify a reason, act on it and complete the task
The reason will help you sense that what you're doing has meaning and purpose, making the task less of an inconvenience and more of a duty
Knowledge is always valuable.
