I'm curious as to the source - how do we know it's a brothel, and they're not just barging in for stealing trinkets?

A synagogue does seem like an odd place to situate a brothel, even for the Germans; and I have a feeling this is a picture taken by the Germans themselves who wouldn't have been keen to admit that their troops used brothels.
