Bitchin' hot cocoa is on standby, cooling off. The bigger mug was lingering in the fridge with a candy cane remnant in it, and I didn't want to risk cracking it, pouring hot stuff in it. SO, I used a smaller Cafe du Monde mug.
Meaning, I'll have to sip a bit off the top before I can add MOAR marshmallows, and the Peppermint Mocha Cold Foam Creamer I just restocked (which is PINK!!! PINK, I say!!! Like the Barbie-themed hoodie I have on that reads "Breathe" in hot pink Barbie font).
BUT... cocoa at the ready, and I am off THE NEXT TWO DAYS. So there is a VERY good chance I can stay up late enough to make some progress on MULTIPLE fics tonight. ...like the two Lost Boys ones I have in progress, on here.
So I've been thinking lately. It's fun when hiccups come out of nowhere, but something really hot to me for a while has been the idea of being able to tell that they're coming. To that end, have some dialogue (or maybe closer to monologue) without a story around it.
...uh-oh. Sweetheart, I think you might have a case of the hiccups. Well no, I know you haven't had any yet. But I think I can hear them. And I'm sure that you can feel them.
You don't? Really? Because I swear that I can hear a little bubbling in your belly. See? When I put my hand against it, can't you feel something fluttery in there? Like something's coming together in your cute little tummy?
And haven't you noticed how shallow your breath is? It's almost like you're scared to breathe in too deeply. Scared of what your diaphragm might do if you push it just a little too far. I can tell that something's all wound up in your chest too. I keep seeing you tap it with your fist.
No, I'm absolutely certain of it. You have the hiccups. Here, let me listen. ...hm. Your heart's really pounding, sweetie. Like it's scared. Or excited for something. And there's something trembly about your breathing, isn't there? And what about your stomach? Oh, I can hear it burbling and gurgling. And feel it trembling too. Something very big is brewing in your belly, isn't it? Big and bubbly and bouncy.
Your whole body feels a little bouncy. Tense. Wound up. Full of potential energy getting bigger and bigger. Waiting for just the right moment for you to pop. Only growing more and more inside of you as you try to hold it back. And you're trying so hard, aren't you? Poor little thing.
But it's futile. It's still waiting inside of your tummy. Making your diaphragm tremble. Keeping your breathing shallow. Making you shake and shiver with fear and keep your mouth closed because you know just what's coming. You know just what noisy, embarrassing sound is desperately trying to pop out of you. You have a case of the hiccups, sweetie. A big one.
I love a villainous villain who isn't just misunderstood or something, but genuinely evil -- though with a consistent (if dark) moral code of his own. Magnificent bastards are the best. Looking forward to seeing the Ahsoka interpretation!
