“Joy is not necessarily the absence of suffering, it is the presence of God.”

a couple of HP U.S. headcanons
1. The U.S. actually has 6 wizarding schools (one for each time zone), but they only advertise Ilvermorny because it has the most students and is in the same timezone and NYC, so every other country only knows about Ilvermorny.
2. The school are run like American schools and they start in August (becuase my state gets out at the end of May and starts and the beginning of August and I want everyone else to suffer with me). They even have bad food compared to all the other wizarding schools (but amazing compared to America’s public schools)
3. Ilvermorny gets the most money out of all of them
4. The students refer to the other schools by their timezones half of the time, interchanging them whenever they so feel
5. Dark magic is legal (to an extent)
6. Right now, they are having Death Eaters protesting (see: neo-nazis)
7. Rich families pay to have their wands designed. Like, after the wand chooses them, they get it dyed (sometimes adding metal or jewels to it). There have been attempts by government officials to make this illegal. It hasn’t worked.
8. The Central timezone school is near Coushatta, but the train is in Chicago.
9. Area 51 is the Mountain timezone school
10. The U.S. has “Quidditch,” which the other countries call American Quidditch. It’s more popular than actual Quidditch, which they call something stupid like Flyball (thanks mom!~)
11. Gen Z wizards have figured out how to completely incorporate technology into the wizarding world and use it at schools and such (Hermione states in one of the first books that there’s too much magic at Hogwarts for technology to work, but of course the American figure out how to do it anyway. We’re Americans, gosh darn it, and we’re determined!)
12. Millennial wizards love it, but the rest of the wizards don’t
13. A lot of the young people’s magic has been deemed illegal or immoral
14. Street magic becomes common and the old way of doing things starts to die out in the younger generations
15. People start writing their own spell books because the ones at the store don’t have what they’re looking for
16. Potions end up in recycled bottles, glass and plastic, because they don’t have the money to go and buy actual potion bottles
17. Fountain pens become EXTREMELY popular, to the point where purebloods are using them. Quills are too much trouble.
18. One of the schools doesn’t have wizarding robes as a uniform, but instead prepschool uniforms. They’re near a city and they have a lot of contact with muggles.
19. Professors aren’t referred to as “Professor X” (pun not intended), but rather as “Mr./Ms. X”
20. Students are NEVER referred to by their last names except for by the one teacher
21. People get detentions for makeup.
22. Detentions everywhere because students are using ink that isn’t black
