I’m regularly thinking about how ‘companion first learns about the doctor being responsible for the destruction of Gallifrey’ is never really an interaction that happens onscreen??? 

Like you’ve got cases like Rose, where it’s alluded to in a couple different villain speeches that happen in front of her, so she’s got *some* knowledge of it. But it doesn’t occur as an interaction between *her and the doctor* (and I’m also of the opinion that despite rose being aware on some level, she and the doctor never talk about it with each other because neither knows how to (or wants to) bring it up) and Martha is maybe in a similar boat of hearing the doctor and master talk about it (can’t remember if she’s in earshot for those parts)

And then you’ve got Amy having dialogue saying the doctor told her what he did! But we don’t get to actually see this conversation! Like what do you mean he *told* her!

AMY: You told me about your people, and you told me what you did. DOCTOR: Yes, yes, but if they're like the Corsair, they're good one and I can save them. AMY: And then tell them you destroyed the others? DOCTOR: I can explain. Tell them why I had to. AMY: You want to be forgiven. DOCTOR: Don't we all?

How did this come up?? How did she react???? It’s very hard to imagine him willingly telling someone that, so I have to assume there was some offscreen situation that forced it out of him, and if so, what was it?

And I kind of get it as a writing choice, because it’s kind of a lot to tackle, and obviously it’s in character for the Doctor not to talk about this, but it just leaves so much juicy stuff on the table, and leaves me continually wondering how a given companion would/did react to learning that (the horror of it vs sympathy for the doctor and how it's weighed on him)

2. this nine moment. i have a soft spot for it because it's the first time i went "wait, is the doctor ace lol". incredibly that this happened in the first episode also

4. the ever iconic "you're a beautiful woman, probably" line from four

5. eleven's "I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS" when he's talking to craig about bringing someone over in the lodger

The biggest mistake dw made was killing river song. I mean the whole story of her being amy and rory’s daughter and being kidnapped and trained to kill the doctor was absolute horse shit but her character was 10/10 and she had so much potential. She was the doctor’s wife and I still can’t believe they took that from us. By now we could have 13/river on their third honeymoon on Darilium

that bit in the beast below where the doctor blatantly lies to amy about not getting involved, and how it comes across as him — tired of losing people but having recognized that traveling alone doesn’t work— trying to avoid losing people by trying to avoid getting into trouble that will cause him to lose people. (and then failing immediately because he is incapable of not helping people who need help)

and if that’s the case, it might be one of the only ways he actually directly engages with ten’s massive traumatic breakdown that isn’t sweeping it under the rug and moving on

it's kind of wild how eleven is like simultaneously amy and rory's war criminal granddad that takes them on unethical space vacations but he's also like their undiagnosed adhd son who is grossed out seeing them kiss

toby whithouse episodes will do something annoying i don't like such as making rose and sarah jane fight over ten or making eleven and rory have weird antagonistic vibes over amy but then i IMMEDIATELY forgive them bc then they lead into earth shattering character revelations such as "the doctor doesn't keep in touch with their former companions bc then they'll have to watch them grow old and die" and "being a companion is dangerous not only bc of the Situations but also bc by just being around the doctor you want to do your best to impress them" and im left sitting here going hey what the fuck

god dotd is SO nothing but ten getting mad at eleven for forgetting how many children they killed by destroying gallifrey is SO everything. how dare you let go of the thing that i carry around with me as it slowly eats away and corrupts me from the inside. how could run away and not look back and moreover how could you do it successfully. we are supposed to be horrible and hate ourselves for it we are always doomed to be alone for everyone else's good fuck you FUCK YOU [throttles you] [puts you in a headlock]

the beautiful version of the 11th doctor that exists in my head. he has no romance subplots and this actually makes the "he keeps meeting his companions as children and this ties into his imaginary childhood friend vibe w/ amy/how he adopted a childish silly outlook on life to cope with his insurmountable loss after being the 10th doctor" theme hit, and also gallifrey actually still exploded so his arc about how forgetting is not the same as acceptance and how after hundreds of years he's able to really grow up and face what he'd been running from, has some real actual bite to it. like bc series 7 plants some really great seeds of him having to leave behind his "if-i-shut-my-eyes-it-never-happened" mindset and really truly confront everything, w/ a town called mercy being about how the doctor's timewar guilt is still very much there, how he tries so so hard to deny amy and rory's inevitable deaths in angels take manhattan, how he thinks of clara as a ghost/mystery and not a person in s7b (bc if she was a person that would mean having someone to lose again). you also don't need to retcon the doctor not destroying gallifrey to begin with bc there's a million other ways you could somehow bring it back for future stories without changing all the "the doctor has to live with the guilt of their decision" stuff to "the doctor is sad about how they THINK gallifrey is gone but actually it isn't lol :) they saved them all actually :)" and taking away a lot of the impact re: eleven facing who he truly is. just generally eleven my sweet tortured son i wish your head writer was not doing all of that to you. free my boy fr
