A lot of people dont know what ace or aro are, so I like to use the rainbow analogy- they're beautiful and I like to look, but I dont want to fuck it /hold hands with it.
Tends to get me an unexpected laugh if said right, and casual follow up questions. Obvs this doesnt work all the time but some people literally cant comprehend it, which is hilarious, because then they ask what I even think about or do if not sex, which can be a fun discussion
That is a great analogy, and I’m sure I or some of my followers could use it.
Though: what I meant in that post originally about people not understanding asexuality, I don’t mean the plain term explanation. I mean being asexual means always talking to someone who doesn’t know and having the dilemma: do I say “I’m ace" knowing that some people will tell me regardless that I haven’t met the right person, that asexuality is the same thing as X, if I want to be X, that I just want attention, that I have to sit there and go through circles and circles thinking of if it’s worth it to say I’m ace knowing there is a possibility the person I’m talking to won’t ever understand what that means and why it’s important to me. Is it worth it? Sometimes it’s easier, though perhaps not better, to simply say I’m queer, or that I don’t have a partner/am not interested, than to go through the exhaustion of constantly being questioned, for perhaps a conversation with a person that I don’t even really know.
