First Dates and Anniversaries

Today M and I went on a first date, to celebrate our 2.5 year anniversary and to start over with a clean slate.

We've realised that a lot of what we react to in each other is history, the people we were when we started dating. In our worst moments we think of the person opposite us as being the person they were when we first met, with all of the tangled mess we each had at the time. We still have tangled mess, we always will, because we're human. But we're both very different people now. And we want to get to know each other again.

So we went on a first date today, finding somewhere that M could eat on his AIP diet, and we sat and asked each other all kinds of first date questions, and got to know each other again. It was wonderful. I think we both reminded each other of the reason we're together, why we've stuck together this long.

Now, I don't know if this new exploring and gentleness will be enough to make me want to stay in this romance, but it is helping me to find out why I still want to work with M on this thing.

We also spoke a lot about our fears and issues outside of our relationship, including M dropping a potential bombshell I'll write about tomorrow.

I read a post a while ago that said 'if you wouldn't start dating them now, don't keep dating them' and in a way that's partly why I wanted to do this. To discover if I wanted to start dating M now. And it was lovely.

Regardless of if we end things soon, or stick this out a while longer, I'm very glad we went on our first date today, and I'm looking forward to the second. If we go on more after that, it would be lovely, but if not, we'll have ended things in as kind, beautiful and loving a way as we can.
