Chapter: 1
Summary: It’s been 2 years since they had all met. Well it had been more for some but they had all come together 2 years ago, forming the baddest gang of South Korea. Just kidding, they were only chaotic children born in 2000 that had decided to celebrate this anniversary at a ski resort in order to forget about the worldwide pandemic that had completely ruined their year. Though these vacations were there to let off of some steam, one of them was going to enjoy this trip a little more than the others.
---
It was still pretty dark outside, the sun an hour away from rising. If it were not for the little group of boys at the entrance of a tall building, this area of Seoul would have been void of sounds. They were all gathered near the small stairs guiding to the front door, bags hanging on their shoulders and fluffy hat covering their messy hair. One of them were scrolling down their phone, the others were quietly chatting and sometimes laughing as if the entire population of the enormous city wasn’t asleep. Small clouds of air found their liberty as they escaped towards the highest point of the dark sky. One of them sighed and sat down on the icy stairs, letting his bag fall at his feet, burying his hands in the pocket of his black puffy jacket.
Suddenly, the calm ambiance was ruined when blaring headlights illuminated them for a second. The sound of the screaming engine made the inattentive ones look up, startled. The car was parked approximatively on the side of the road, radiating of warmth.
“Who taught you to park like that?” asked a tall boy who had his hood glued on his head. He walked closer to the girl who had just got out of the car, sporting a sparkling smile.
“At least I have my licence Yoshi, what about you?” she responded as he went to open the trunk, ready to get rid of his annoyingly heavy backpack.
They all followed his lead earnestly. The cold weather was killing them and even though the small snowflakes that were littering the ground were beautiful under the streetlights, they wanted to escape as soon as possible from the winter’s claws. Bags after bags were thrown inside the relatively big trunk, now looking smaller. Yoshi extended his hand to close it and ran to sit at the front, shrugging when the other boys groaned. Why was he this awake this early?
Once they were all huddled up inside, the energetic girl clapped excitedly before turning around to have a view of all the boys.
“Are you ready?” they barely nodded, the boy with the blue jacket already dozing off. She rolled her eyes and turned back, putting her hands on the wheel. She turned on the engine, excitedly stomping on the speed pedal. Now, Yoshi was holding on the handle above the window. Thanking his reflex when she put rapidly her foot on the brake: the green light had turned red.
“Yah Shuhua! Do you want us all to die?” screamed the black jacketed boy who was clinging on the door. She smiled sheepishly and waved at him. The one dozing off had woken up hyper alert, eyes wide.
“Focus for real, we haven’t even picked Junkyu up yet!” he added with a whine. She groaned as she began to accelerate again.
“Oh poor Jihoonie doesn’t want to die without our Kyu, so romantic!” They all bursted in laughter at this but Jihoon. He lightly punched the boy next to him, earning a whine.
“I just think that it wouldn’t be fair that the dumbest one stays alive.” Yoshi snickered and nodded at this.
“You have a point, but I still prefer Yoonbin’s version.” The concerned boy high fived the boy at the front, ignoring the pouting Jihoon next to him.
“Or we could stop acting like I was ready to kill you all! I know what I’m doing you know?” they all laughed, teasing her here and there which perfectly irritated her. “If I were you I would not take it too far huh, I’m still the one holding the wheel.” they all shut up, nodding.
“Calm down Schumacher...” teased Yoshi as he turned on the radio.
“Anyway, be patient with me. I’ve never driven this type of car, this is way bigger than mine’s.” it was true, she was used to her small Mini that had 4 seats and the smallest trunk. Now this was a pick-up with 7 seats that they had rented for the trip. She was the only one that had her licence on her when they were in the small shop, so she had became the official driver of the small group. She was more than annoyed at Jihoon and Junkyu who had forgotten their own licences at Hyunsuk’s flat because they had gotten way too drunk the night before to remember to bring them. Yoshi didn’t have a licence and Yoonbin wasn’t in town when they had ranted it. The moment she had seen the two best friends entering the shop, completely out of breath because they had had to run and disheveled hair, she had known she was doomed.
“Is that supposed to reassure us? Because you are actually doing the opposite.”
“Park Jihoon! I swear -”
“Alright, I won’t say anything!”
The morning show playing on the radio filled the car, replacing the silence that had just settled. Yoonbin was asleep, leaning his head on Jihoon’s shoulder, snoring softly while Jihoon was looking out, taking in the rare scenery: Seoul asleep and empty, covered with a thin layer of pure snow. Yoshi on the other hand was on his phone, probably informing Junkyu of their position. Shuhua scoffed to herself, these boys were real drama queens seeing as how easily they had let go of the supposed issue.
They had skimmed through the city, turning left then right, surrounded by the tallest buildings then by typical homes. The car had also crossed the Han river with an Epik High song that created a soft lull, Shuhua hadn’t tried to go too fast because it wasn’t needed. They had all the time in the world, some peace was ready to be found.
A quarter of an hour later, they finally arrived in front another building. It was a little bit smaller than the boys’ one but it was wider. We could see that it had been built the same way: typical students residence. And just like she had done for the trio, she parked approximatively on the side of the road, startling the couple that was sitting on the small stairs. She wanted to honk so badly but apparently it wasn’t decent to do it at 5 a.m. She turned off the engine and got out, bracing herself for the wave of cold that was ready to hit her violently.
“Hey hey hey!” She hummed as she approached the two. Junkyu was standing with his bag on his shoulder as he held up his hand for her to high five. She did so, doing the same for the girl next to him.
“So how are you guys? Ready?” she asked excitedly while opening the trunk. The other girl nodded with enthusiasms but the boy that had waited with her had something else in mind. Junkyu hurried to throw his bag before opening Jihoon’s door.
“Jihoon!” he screamed, abruptly waking up the boy that was leaning on Jihoon.
“Kim Junkyu! What is your damn problem?” Yoonbin groaned as he straightened his back. Junkyu pouted, finally smiling again when Jihoon hugged him.
“I’ve missed you!”
“Kyu we literally saw each other two days ago.”
“Still!” The younger whined as he climbed in the car, positioning himself on the seats behind Jihoon and Yoonbin.
“Sometimes I think you should date Jihoon you know, seeing how you two are all over each other!” mused the girl that also climbed on the back seats, tossing softly Junkyu’s sweater at him.
“Jealous are we Maï?” he teased as he pinched her cheek. She swatted his hand giving him the chance to hold her cold one.
“I know I’m just a cover up Kyu, I’m used to it now.” she said gravely as the two boys laughed, Yoonbin grumbling for them to shut up. Needless to say that nobody had cared.
“With the amount I pay you, how could you be anything else other than happy?”
“I thought we weren’t supposed to talk about that?” She asked while putting her index finger on his mouth.
“So nice to know that we have prostitute in the car.” sarcastically said Yoonbin, bringing out a genuine laughter out of Yoshi who had went back to his phone the moment the two new members had been settled.
“Oh my god, why did I accept to spend a full week with you?” Shuhua sighed, turning on the engine again. The headlights suddenly enlightened the dark road the same way the motor disturbed the perfect former silence.
“We only have to get Eunbin then we are set to go.” she added while turning right, she lived a couple of blocks away from Junkyu.
“She’s coming?” asked Yoshi, surprised. “Of course, I thought you knew.”
“I mean when we had asked her she had hastily refused, saying it wasn’t her thing and she hated cold so she doesn't understand why she would willingly go burying herself in this hell of mountain.” stated Jihoon as if it were some type of lesson that he had learnt the day before.
“You’re right but she changed her mind. For the well being of our friendship.” she smiled proudly. Jihoon could only roll his eyes because they were already in front of her building, and she was there, holding onto her plaid that was draped around her totally clothed self. She waved slightly before opening the trunk herself, throwing her heavy bag in there and then opening the door, sitting right next to Yoonbin.
“We can finally go!” Screamed Shuhua, turning up the volume of the radio.
