(lvl 4) Lesson 8-10
Today we will do three lessons. Lesson 8 is about saying “it’s okay to ...”. Lesson 9 is about saying “you’re not supposed to” / “you shouldn’t” and lastly lesson 10 is about 중에(서) and 사이에(서).
Lesson 8
“It’s okay to” → 아/어/여도 되다. You might recognise some parts, so let’s see:
되다 = to function / to be possible / can do
도 = too / as well / also
아/어/여도 = even if / even when
아/어/여도 되다 = it’s okay to...
Examples:
켜다 = to turn on
켜도 되다 = it’s okay to turn ... on
켜도 돼요 = it’s okay to turn it on
컴퓨터 켜도 돼요 = it’s okay to turn the computer on
시작하다 = to begin; to start
시작해도 되다 = it is okay to start
시작해도 돼요 = You can start
시작해도 돼요? = Can I start? / Can we start?
안 + 아/어/여도 되다 = “do not have to...”
먹다 = to eat
안 먹어도 돼요 = you don’t have to eat it
Lesson 9
You shouldn’t / you’re not supposed to → (으)면 안 돼요 / 하면 안 돼요. You’ll recognise the 안 돼요 part from lesson 8, (으)면 is explained in level 2 lesson 23. Literally, (으)면 안 돼요 means “it is not okay if...”. Let’s see some examples:
열다 = to open
열면 안 돼요 = you should not open it
만지다 = to touch
만지면 안 돼요 = you're not supposed not touch it
Lesson 10
중에(서) = in the middle.
에(서) = location marker
중 = center/middle
With 중에(서) you can say “Between A and B” → A하고 B중에(서)
이 책하고 저 책 중에서 = between this book and that book
You can also use 중에(서) for saying “among ...”
이 세 개 중에서 = among these three
사이에서 also expresses “among...”
친구들 사이에서 = among friends
사이에 is used with physical space between two objects or people. Note: 서 is not used!
약국은 학교하고 경찰서 사이에 있어요. = the pharmacy is between the school and the police station
im closing and im so UPSET
“Once I say it out loud it all falls apart.”

I am brought to great and terrible deeds with you entangled in my bedsheets. Now I'm wrapping myself around the pillow you flipped to feel the cold side on your cheek. It's spring and I'm covering myself in four layers to feel the warmth when your arms wrapped around my chest squeezing so tight that my breath was shortened. Finally safe. "All the love I was denied as a child." I'm emulating you And I'm dreaming of her So now I'm desperately trying to forget Your name, your voice Your image My self.
Quercus coccinea- Scarlet Oak
It occurs on dry, sandy, usually acidic soils. It is often an important canopy species in an oak-heath forest.
Type: Tree Family: Fagaceae Native Range: Eastern United States, southern Canada Zone: 4 to 9 Height: 50.00 to 70.00 feet Spread: 40.00 to 50.00 feet Bloom Time: April to May Bloom Description: Yellowish-green Sun: Full sun Water: Dry to medium Maintenance: Low Suggested Use: Shade Tree, Street Tree Leaf: Good Fall Tolerate: Drought, Dry Soil, Black Walnut
Culture
Easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soil in full sun. Prefers dry, acidic, sandy soils.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Scarlet oak is a large tree with a rounded, open habit which eventually matures to 70' tall. Leaves are 3-6" long and deeply cut with bristle-tipped, pointed lobes. Foliage is a glossy green in summer turning to scarlet in fall. Monoecious, with neither male (drooping catkins) nor female (solitary or clustered) flowers being showy. Fruit is an acorn (1/2" to 1" long). Native to southeastern Missouri.
Problems
No serious problems. Leaf spots, anthracnose, canker, mildew, rust, wilts, rots, galls and numerous insect problems have been reported. However, this tree is long-living, durable and considered to be a low-maintenance tree to grow. Scarlet oak is not subject to chlorosis problems as much as the closely related pin oak (Q. palustris).
Garden Uses
A stately shade tree for the lawn, particularly in drier locations, with excellent fall color. Also a good street tree. Since it is a large tree, it must be planted in a location where it will have sufficient space to grow upward and spread to its mature size.
