Because to Chris, a parent leaving would feel normal. At first. Okay, Mom's gone and Dad's here. She'll call and email and we'll talk. But then she never does.

For the first time in Chris's life, he was completely abandoned by a parent and it upturned his expectations for what someone leaving your life looked like to such an extent that it continues to impact his relationships and how he sees the world today. And Eddie just had to watch that happen, knowing he'd never be able to truly explain why Shannon did what she did, because he didn't know.

For all that Eddie is convinced he left first, he never left like Shannon left. He's given his kid a lot of issues, but Buck was wrong to say that Chris doesn't have a mom to mess him up so Eddie has to do it. Shannon did plenty in the time she had.
