I think part of the fandom needs to take a long hard look in the mirror. In which reality is this ok? It’s not.

I know the fandom is upset and sad. So am I. Gonna miss Bobby (and Peter) so much, and the show is never gonna be the same. I understand it’s hard. And it’s a loss, a big one. And the pain should never be downplayed or made to be silly.

But shitting on the hard work of the actors, directors, writers, crew etc. is not an accentable way to cope or show/deal with that grief. It’s also not ’not a big deal’. IMDB is a serious site and while I don’t think it has really any effect on the show (as everyone involved with the shows future knows why the ratings is so low, other factors will be more important on the future of the show.), the rating is important for the directors, editors etc. of that specifuc episode. It’s part of their CV.

Giving one star reviews is disrespectful, end off. And even worse are the so called fans of the show who make videos/post encouraging people to leave one start reviews and boycott the show. That’s just malicious.

Of course there are valid reasons to give a bad review, in the end of the day many things are up to opinion. But simply the amazing work of the actors makes the episode better than one star. Giving one star is not giving a bad review, it’s something else, childish and malicious.

I have no problem with people wanting to stop watching, you should never watch something that you don’t enjoy anymore. But trying to get others to boycott is not ok. The only effect the boycott might have is cancellation of the show. And that is never an ok goal. Unless of course the whole show and most people involved are highly problematic. But that’s not the case here. If you think by boycotting you can ~change things, you are awfully naive.

Want to show the creators you are not happy? Rant on social media, unfollow them, don’t interact them, stop watching. There are plenty of better ways.

As you can see, I’ve given the episodes 10 starts, and I feel a bit silly doing that. I feel 8 or so would have been my review normally. But I just had to do something to counteract this lunacy.

So… I will talk about the whole season when I can. But… I think the finale has a lot of the same pros and cons as the season itself.

Just first. I know he’s canonically dead, but where was Bobby? Athena was dead/near death twice this season and while I’m am grateful to see another side of her story… she really would see Bobby. Is there a problem between the show and Peter Krause the actor? Is there a pay dispute? It just seemed so off.

And like on the subject of being off - the pacing of everything. Both in the episode and in the season. Like massive life changes, such as Theo moving in with Buck, or major plot points, like Eddie getting stabbed, are under played or barely register.

The episode and season are so lopsided - the acting is great. The cinematography? Wonderful. The set and wardrobe design? Impeccable.

The actual story? Confused. Pacing? Insane to the point of being discombobulated. The dialogue? Fine. Like I can get the whole aspect of “things aren’t linear” and that’s true. But this show continues to neither show NOR tell important aspects of what’s happening. And then throwing in a ton of important things either as an aside, crammed in last minute, or literally off screen.

The story is also in how you tell it. It can be two steps forward, one step back. Escalations, plot twists, false hopes, are all elements of stories. But there is a difference between the story being complicated and the story telling being confused. This is the later, not the former. And that makes things feel rushed or underdeveloped. Which lessens their emotional impact.

And that’s what’s so frustrating. There had to be a conversation about Buck’s addiction and him having Custody of Theo. That would have been important to his character arc. Clearly happened off-screen. Could Oliver Stark nail that scene? Hell yes. And the whole tv team would have nailed it. It would be wonderful to see how Hen and Karen would have guided him given their adoption struggles.

We get none of that. We get beautiful cinematography of Eddie getting stabbed in church. And it’s so rich for his character. But no actual discussion. No resolution. Only the visuals, none of the story.

The show has such great strengths and just such a talented cast and crew. But the core element of a story… is the story. And because the writers and show runners can’t seem to write the damn story, it throws the actual scenes and pacing off - both in this episode and just throughout the whole series.

It’s so frustrating to just love this show, but at the same time… kind of mourn it as well.

Working on 9-1-1 seems so stressful bc what do you mean they’re still working on filming episode five when episode two airs TODAY like please how quickly are yall editing the entire episode, making trailers, taking and picking the stills etc. like please does any of that crew ever get a break 😭

oliver posting the photos of the crew on his instagram story and also creating a highlight for it which means he could continuously add on to it throughout the filming of season 8 but again just highlighting the people behind the scenes that truly help make our favorite show to light with all the late nights and all the people involved that never get the highlight they deserve for working on a massive network show like that like oliver truly is something else 😭
